‘RUIRJ0110A’

-

A new and distinct groundcover Rosa plant named ‘RUIRJ0110A’ is disclosed, characterized by abundant magenta, single flowers. Plants are bushy, compact and low growing, suitable for groundcover use. Plants exhibit both good reflowering and abundant production of hips. The new variety is a Rosa, normally produced as an outdoor garden or container plant.

Description

Latin name of the genus and species: Rosa hybrida.

Variety denomination: ‘RUIRJ0110A’.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The new Rosa cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the inventor. The cross resulting in this new variety was made in April of 2009 at a nursery in Boskoop, The Netherlands.

The seed parent is the unpatented variety Rosa ‘Snow Pavement’. The pollen parent is the unpatented variety Rosa ‘Andre Brichet’. The new variety was selected in November 2011 by the inventor at the same nursery in Boskoop, The Netherlands. The inventor continued observing characteristics of the new variety for several years, in the controlled conditions of the research nursery.

Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar was performed by vegetative softwood cuttings. This was first performed at a greenhouse in Amstelveen, The Netherlands, in March 2012, and has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The cultivar ‘RUIRJ0110A’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘RUIRJ0110A’ These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘RUIRJ0110A’ as a new and distinct Rosa cultivar:

    • 1. Groundcover shrub rose.
    • 2. Abundant magenta single flowers.
    • 3. Abundant hips produced.
    • 4. Good reflowering.
    • 5. Bushy growth habit.

PARENTAL COMPARISON

Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRJ0110A’ are similar to plants of the seed parent in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRJ0110A’ differ in the following:

    • 1. Flowers of the new variety are magenta; flowers of the seed parent are mostly white.
    • 2. Plants of the new variety are more compact than plants of the seed parent.
    • 3. Flowers of the new variety produce less petals than flowers of the seed parent.

Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRJ0110A’ are similar to plants of the pollen parent in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRJ0110A’ differ in the following;

    • 1. Flowers of the new variety are magenta; flowers of the seed parent are white with light pink.
    • 2. The new variety produces more branches than plants of the pollen parent.
    • 3. Plants of the new variety are more compact than plants of the pollen parent.
    • 4. Flowers of the new variety produce less petals than flowers of the pollen parent.

COMMERCIAL COMPARISON

Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRJ0110A’ can be compared to the commercial variety Rosa ‘BROKRAHAN’, unpatented. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however ‘RUIRJ0110A’ differs in the following:

    • 1. This new cultivar reflowers better than this comparator.
    • 2. This new cultivar produces more branches per plant than this comparator.
    • 3. Plants of the new variety are more compact than plants of this comparator.

Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRJ0110A’ can be compared to the commercial variety Rosa ‘BOKRATRACK’, unpatented. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however ‘RUIRJ0110A’ differs in the following:

    • 1. This new cultivar reflowers better than this comparator.
    • 2. This new cultivar produces more hips per plant than this comparator.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH

The accompanying photograph illustrates a close up view of the flower. The photograph was taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.
