plant named ‘D CLASH’

A new and distinct Aristeria cultivar named ‘D CLASH’ is disclosed, characterized by a superb rosette shape with a unique leaf pattern of green with white lenticel dots and a fully white longitudinal leaf rim. The striking leaf color contrast combined with the attractive rosette shape make the new variety exceptionally ornamental.

Description

Latin name of the genus and species: Aristeria beguinii.

Variety denomination: ‘D CLASH’.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The new variety Aristeria beguinii ‘D CLASH’ was selected as a naturally occurring, whole plant mutation of the unnamed parent plant Aristeria beguinii, the species itself. The new variety was discovered by the inventor in May 2018, at a nursery in Terragona, Spain.

Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar ‘D CLASH’ was first performed at a nursery in Terragona, Spain by leaf cuttings of original plant in March 2019. Through subsequent asexual propagation, approximately 4 generations have been reproduced, which have shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The cultivar ‘D CLASH’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘D CLASH.’ These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘D CLASH’ as a new and distinct Aristeria cultivar:

    • 1. Unique leaf pattern of green with white lenticel dots and a fully white longitudinal leaf rim.
    • 2. Superb rosette shape.
    • 3. Striking color contrast in leaves between green background and white lenticels and longitudinal leaf rim.

PARENT COMPARISON

Plants of the new cultivar ‘D CLASH’ are similar to the parent variety, in many horticultural characteristics. However the new variety, ‘D CLASH’ differs from parent in the following characteristics:

    • 1. Leaf color of the new variety is a lighter green than the leaf color of the parent.
    • 2. Leaf variegation of the new variety is green with white lenticel dots and a fully white longitudinal leaf rim. Leaf variegation of the parent is green with white lenticel dots but without a white longitudinal leaf rim.

COMMERCIAL COMPARISONS

The new variety can be compared to the commercial variety Gasteria ‘D Due’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 29,665 as the varieties are similar in many horticultural characteristics. Plants of ‘D Clash’, however, differ from plants of ‘D Due’ in the following characteristics:

    • 1. Leaf margins of the new variety are dentate, while leaf margins of this comparator are smooth.
    • 2. Leaf variegation of the new variety is green with white lenticel dots and a fully white longitudinal leaf rim. Leaf variegation of this comparator is green with white lenticel dots but without a white longitudinal leaf rim.

‘D CLASH’ can be compared with the commercial variety x Gasteraloe ‘D Delta’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 30,905 as the varieties are similar in many horticultural characteristics. However the new variety, ‘D CLASH’ differs from ‘D Delta’ in the following characteristics:

    • 1. Leaf variegation of the new variety is green with white lenticel dots and a fully white longitudinal leaf rim. Leaf variegation of this comparator is green with white lenticel dots but without a white longitudinal leaf rim.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying photograph in FIG. 1 illustrates in full color a typical plant of ‘D CLASH’ grown in a commercial greenhouse in Amposta, Spain. The plant is in a 9-cm pot, at approximately 40-weeks old.

FIG. 2 illustrates a close-up of the underside of the leaf.

FIG. 3 illustrates a close-up of the upper side of the leaf.

The photograph was taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 2015, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘D CLASH’ plant grown in a glass greenhouse in Amposta, Spain. The plant is approximately 40 weeks old in an 8.5 cm pot. Temperatures ranged between 18° C. to 20° C. during the day and 15° C. to 18° C. at night. No chemical treatments were given to the plants. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.
