Geranium plant named ‘TOSPL200522’
A new and distinct interspecific Geranium plant named ‘TOSPL200522’, characterized by its broadly upright and mounding plant habit; moderately vigorous growth habit; freely basal branching habit; dark green-colored velvety leaves; early and freely flowering habit; and semi-double type flowers with medium red-colored petals that are held above the foliar plane on strong peduncles.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of interspecific Geranium plant, botanically known as Pelargonium interspecific, and hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name ‘TOSPL200522’.
The new interspecific Geranium plant is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the Inventor in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, The Netherlands. The objective of the breeding program is to develop new upright to mounded and moderately vigorous interspecific Geranium plants that have dark green-colored leaves, flower for a long period of time and are high temperature-tolerant.
The new interspecific Geranium plant originated from a cross-pollination made by the Inventor in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, The Netherlands in September 2019 of a proprietary selection of Pelargonium interspecific identified as code number TE0157, not patented, as the female, or seed, parent with Pelargonium interspecific ‘TOSTC4011’, not patented, as the male, or pollen, parent. The new interspecific Geranium plant was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a single flowering plant from within the progeny of the stated mass cross-pollination in a controlled greenhouse environment in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, The Netherlands in July 2020.
Asexual reproduction of the new interspecific Geranium plant by vegetative terminal cuttings in a controlled greenhouse environment in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, The Netherlands since July 2020 has shown that the unique features of this new interspecific Geranium plant are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONPlants of the new interspecific Geranium have not been observed under all possible combinations of environmental conditions and cultural practices. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environmental conditions such as temperature and light intensity without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘TOSPL200522’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘TOSPL200522’ as a new and distinct interspecific Geranium plant:

- 1. Broadly upright and mounding plant habit.
- 2. Moderately vigorous growth habit.
- 3. Freely basal branching habit.
- 4. Dark green-colored velvety leaves.
- 5. Early and freely flowering habit.
- 6. Semi-double type flowers with medium red-colored petals that are held above the foliar plane on strong peduncles.
Plants of the new interspecific Geranium differ primarily from plants of the female parent selection in flower petal color as flower petals of plants of the new interspecific Geranium are medium red in color whereas flower petals of plants of the female parent selection are red purple in color. In addition, plants of the new interspecific Geranium are more outwardly spreading than and not as upright as plants of the female parent selection.
Plants of the new interspecific Geranium differ primarily from plants of the male parent, ‘TOSTC4011’, in flower petal color as flower petals of plants of the new interspecific Geranium are medium red in color whereas flower petals of plants of ‘TOSC4011’ are darker red in color. In addition, plants of the new interspecific Geranium have fewer petals per flower than plants of ‘TOSC4011’.
Plants of the new interspecific Geranium can be compared to plants of the Pelargonium interspecific ‘PEQZ0028’, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 29,542. In side-by-side comparisons, plants of the new interspecific Geranium differ from plants of ‘PEQZ0028’ in the following characteristics:

- 1. Plants of the new interspecific Geranium are more uniformly mounded than plants of ‘PEQZ0028’.
- 2. Leaves of plants of the new interspecific Geranium are darker green in color than leaves of plants of ‘PEQZ0028’.
- 3. Leaves of plants of the new interspecific Geranium do not have a distinct zonation pattern whereas leaves of plants of ‘PEQZ0028’ have a distinct zonation pattern.
- 4. Flowers of plants of the new interspecific Geranium are darker red in color than flowers of plants of ‘PEQZ0028’.
The accompanying colored photographs illustrate the overall appearance of the new interspecific Geranium plant showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type. Colors in the photographs may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the colors of the new interspecific Geranium plant.

The aforementioned photographs and following observations, measurements and values describe plants grown in 10.5-cm containers during the spring in a polyethylene-covered greenhouse in Arroyo Grande, California and under cultural practices typical of commercial interspecific Geranium production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures averaged 20° C. and night temperatures averaged 18° C. Plants were 18 weeks old when the photographs and the detailed description were taken. In the detailed description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 1995 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.
