Patent number: RE28931Abstract: Cigarettes or like rod-shaped articles are conveyed sideways in equidistant flutes of a rotary drum at a speed of at least one thousand articles per minute and along an ejecting station having a width which substantially exceeds and can be a multiple of the distance between a pair of neighboring flutes. Selected articles are ejected from their flutes in response to electric or pneumatic signals by being subjected to the action of a mechanical force and/or to the action of a force produced by a stream of gaseous fluid whereby the point of application of the force moves with the flute which contains the respective selected article while such flute travels through the ejecting station. The articles can be held in their flutes by suction or by mechanical means, and the suction or the mechanical retaining action is terminated when a selected article reaches the ejecting station so that the selected articles are separated under the action of gravity and/or under the action of centrifugal force.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: Hauni-Werke Korber & Co., KGInventor: Frank-Dieter Lehmann

Patent number: 3974537Abstract: A lip extender for use with a loading dock leveler. The lip extender includes a lower link connected at its lower end to the base plate of the leveler and a toggle arm connected at its upper end beneath the lip. The opposite ends of the toggle arm and lower link are pivotally connected together. Upward movement of the hinge connection between the bridge plate and lip moves them both upwardly to a cocked position in which they are supported by the toggle arm and lower link, which pivot into an over-center position. Downward force exerted on the upper part of the bridge plate causes a cam follower carried by the pivotal connection between the toggle arm and lower link to engage a cam surface mounted beneath the bridge plate. The lip is thereby extended simultaneously upwardly and outwardly over the rear edge of a truck disposed adjacent to the dock. When the lip reaches its fully extended position, the toggle arm moves past the center position and allows the lip to drop onto the truck bed.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: Ellis Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence D. Patent number: 3974553Abstract: Automatic machinery for performing multiple operations on different parts of workpieces includes an incrementally rotating, workpiece supporting turret provided with three workpiece supports. Upon rotating of the turret, a workpiece loaded on a support located at a first position is indexed about the axis of the turret to a second position at which a first operation is performed thereon, then to a third, idle position. Continued rotation of the turret results in an index of the workpiece to the first position, then again to the second position at which a second operation is performed thereon. After the next index to the third position, the workpiece is unloaded from the support. As the turret is indexed, the workpiece is rotated relative to the turret whereupon the workpiece is oriented differently each time it reaches the second position causing the operations to take place on different parts of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: The Globe Tool and Engineeering CompanyInventors: Arthur C. Patent number: 3974558Abstract: This upstroke-cushioning expansible strut consists of a spring-pressed hollow upper inner arm having on its lower end a piston head reciprocable within a roughly cylindrical hollow lower outer arm, the former being pivoted to an automobile rear hatch while the latter is pivoted to the lower part of the automobile body. Mounted between the lower arm and the upper arm is an elongated hollow spool-shaped internal seal which also guides the upper arm as it is propelled upward by the lifting force applied by the operator, assisted by internal springs. The air is allowed to escape gradually through bleed orifices until the upper arm nears its fully extended position, whereupon the release of the air is halted by the covering up of the orifices by the internal seal when said orifices reach said seal, thereby cushioning the impact which would otherwise occur between the piston head on the lower end of the upper inner arm and the upper end of the lower outer arm. The internal seal also acts as a resilient stop.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Inventors: Werner H. Fengler, Richard R. Fengler

Patent number: 3974560Abstract: A planar bipolar transistor is made by the successive ion implantations of selected atoms into selected regions of a layer of doped single-crystal silicon on an insulating substrate, such as sapphire or spinel. The silicon layer is epitaxially grown, has a thickness of between 0.5 and 5 .mu.m, and is formed in two strata of different resistivities. A collector contact well is ion implanted into the upper stratum and annealed to diffuse it into the lower stratum of lower resistivity. The transistor is isolated, as a mesa, on the substrate; and an edge-guard region is ion implanted through the periphery of the mesa, except in the region of the emitter-base junction.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: RCA CorporationInventors: Charles William Mueller, Edward Curtis Douglas

Patent number: 3974562Abstract: In a pipe cutting device, a stationary chuck for holding a workpiece is connected to a bearing housing, the chuck and bearing housing are in axial alignment. A ring is concentrically mounted within the bearing housing and a cutting support is eccentrically pivotally mounted in the ring and carries a cutting member. The cutting support can be pivoted between a rest position with the cutting member spaced from the workpiece to a cutting position with the cutting member in contact with the workpiece. From the cutting position, the cutting support engages and drives the ring so that both the cutting support and ring move along a concentric path about the workpiece for effecting the cutting operation.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: Georg Fischer AktiengesellschaftInventor: Xaver Wuchner

Patent number: 3974567Abstract: A temporary protector defined by a sheet of pliable paper or like material of such shape and size as to cover the masticating or occlusal surface of a dental crown. The sheet has first and second sides, with the first side being covered with a film of pressure sensitive adhesive. The film of pressure sensitive adhesive on each protector permits the latter to be removably bonded to the masticating surface of a dental crown prior to the crown being permanently secured to a prepared tooth by the use of conventional means, I.E. a crown and bridge cement, polycarboxylate cement, or the like. Each protector prevents the undulating masticating surface of the dental crown on which it is mounted from being contaminated with cement during the time it is being mounted on the prepared tooth structure.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Inventor: William V.
