  • Patent number: 4036301
Abstract: A process for reducing the waiting-on-cement (WOC) time associated with the cementing of a casing string in an oil well involving the specific improvement of pumping into the well a highly retarded cement slurry containing a dispersed encapsulated accelerator, such as calcium chloride or anhydrous sodium metasilicate, wherein the encapsulating material is specifically selected such that it will melt at a temperature above the bottom-hole circulating temperature but below the bottomhole static temperature of the well to be cemented. Petroleum-derived waxes and petroleum-derived waxes in combination with vinyl resins, such as wax-compatible copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, are particularly suitable as the meltable encapsulating material exhibiting excellent strength and abrasion resistance as well as serving as a moisture barrier. The improved process is particularly useful in cementing deep hot wells.

  • Patent number: 4036303
Abstract: A soil-cultivating machine has an elongated frame that extends horizontally and transverse to the direction of travel. A row of adjacent soil-working members are mounted on corresponding upwardly extending shafts which are geared to a common drive shaft and the members are driven in relative opposite directions to work a broad path of soil. Alternate soil-working members are slideable along beams of the frame so that debris does not jam the drive connections. The drive to the soil-working members includes an imput shaft to a gear box, which can comprise a reduction gear, and an elongated drive shaft that extends parallel to the frame and along which the slideable members are displaceable. The corresponding gears to the working members includes a pinion transmission on the drive shaft which is slideable within limits defined by an elongated key arrangement. Compression springs bias each slideable working member to a normal central position.

  • Patent number: 4036305
Abstract: A plurality of plow units are mounted to a main frame of a plow system for rotation about their vertical axes. The plow units are spaced at equal lateral increments and at uniformly increased distances from a pivot connection between the main frame and a traction vehicle. The plow units are ganged together by means of a guide beam; and a power actuator controls the motion of the guide beam in rotating the plow units so that their cut lines take a predetermined position relative to the main frame. As the plow system is then used to plow ground, the main frame swings about its pivot connection to the tractor until the plow units line up with the direction of travel of the tractor, thereby adjusting the spacing between plow units automatically. The rear plow unit is mounted to a tail section which is pivotally mounted to the main frame and includes a rear wheel for supporting the distal end of the main frame and for steering the system as the tractor turns.

  • Patent number: 4036306
Abstract: The plow system may carry as many as 10 or 14 individual plow units. All of the units are connected together by a tie rod and may be pivoted in unison relative to a main frame. By pivoting the units, they may be opened or closed to adjust the width of cut between adjacent units over a continuous, wide range. The main articulated frame includes a forward frame section with a main beam inclined relative to the direction of travel of the vehicle, and the rear frame section with a main beam in axial alignment with the main beam of the forward frame section. The forward frame section and rear frame sections are pivotally connected together for rotation about a horizontal axis to permit the system to follow the contour of the ground extending in the direction of travel. The system includes a forward furrow wheel, a rear furrow wheel, and a steerable intermediate support wheel which rides on unplowed ground ahead of the system and is steered as a function of the adjusted position of the plow units.

  • Patent number: 4036312
Abstract: A well jar is characterized by inner and outer telescoped members held from relative displacement by a latching member having an extending portion thereon. Imposition of an axially directed triggering force exceeding a predetermined magnitude is transmitted against the biasing force of a resilient member through a force transmitting arrangement to a latch release member provided with an opening therein sized to receive the extending portion of the latching member. The release member rotates in a predetermined angular direction to come into registry with the opening therein to receive the extending portion of the latching member as the latching member displaces radially outwardly to release the inner member. Upon release, the inner member responds to the axially directed force to drive impact surfaces disposed on the inner and outer members into an impact-producing engagement.

  • Patent number: 4036319
Abstract: A shock absorber for a motor vehicle suspension includes a piston construction having flow control valving that becomes more restrictive during the life of the shock absorber to compensate for the reduction in friction damping in the suspension during usage. The piston valving includes a flow passage surrounded at one of its ends by an annular land that forms a valve seat. A valve element is urged to a closed position against the seat by the cumulative force of a primary spring and a secondary spring. The secondary spring provides a spring force countering the force of the primary spring but is constructed to progressively take a permanent set after repeated cycling whereby the cumulative force of the two springs urging the valve element to a seated condition will increase during the service life of the shock absorber.

  • Patent number: 4036338
Abstract: A sealed oil-contaning clutch having a novel release mechanism. Instead of having the usual externally located bearing, the release mechanism employs a thrust bearing located inside the sealed clutch enclosure. This results in a saving in space and cost, and since the bearing is exposed to the oil, its life expectancy is increased. The clutch also has but a single cover member which serves as both a structural and a sealing member.

Abstract: A noise is generated unavoidably owing to hunting phenomenon that appears in process of increasing or decreasing torque to be transmitted by a hydraulic coupling in a hitherto known type, when it is subjected to change of the ambient temperature.A purpose of this invention is to provide a new and unique hydraulic coupling which enables hydraulic connection to be effected very quickly in such a way that engagement or disengagement between ferrite and magnet is applied to transfer mechanism in hydraulic coupling, depending on the ambient temperature. The above purpose of the invetion has been accomplished as follows.Magnetical attractive force between ferrite and magnet is predetermined to overcome spring force in a normal temperature, and working temperature for this new mechanism according to the invention is selected around at Curie temperature of said ferrite material.

  • Patent number: 4036344
Abstract: A low loss, multiple element wet clutch mechanism for connecting two mechanical members to each other wherein the two members are concentric about a common axis and either or both are supported for rotation about the common axis. The connection is made by clutch elements which are forced together by an actuator. Clutch elements on one side of the interface are keyed to one member to limit rotational movement about the axis to that of the member while clutch elements on the other side of the interface are keyed to a rotating annular carrier element carried by the second member. A second annular element mounted on the same member as the carrier is keyed to the member for rotational movement about the axis but is free to translate axially of the member to engage the rotating annular carrier element to key the clutch elements carried by it to that member. A clutch engaging actuator when actuated first causes the two annular elements to engage and thereafter the clutch elements.
