  • Patent number: 4047304
Abstract: A drafting board includes a pair of laterally spaced base members which are pivotable upon supporting elements. The base members carry a drawing surface which is thus also pivotable. A straight-edge assembly having at least one ruling edge is carried by the drawing surface and is movable therealong between front and rear edges of the drawing surface. The straight-edge assembly has a bracket assembly at each lateral end thereof surmounting the side edges of the drawing surface, and the ruling edge of the assembly extends between the brackets and is pivotably secured to the brackets. The straight-edge assembly is laterally extensible and is movable along the drawing surface in a manner such that one end thereof is movable independently of the other so as to permit angular positioning of the ruling edge relative to the front edge of the drawing surface.

  • Patent number: 4047306
Abstract: A bore hole probe instrument having a point source of light, passing through a flexible tubular portion. The point of light, which originates at one end of the flexible tubular portion, is established for example by means of fibre optics, a laser or the like. At the other end of the flexible tubular portion there is located an automatic camera having an image screen, on which the point of light is received. As the flexible tubular portion bends, to follow the path of the bore hole, the light spot will be deflected on the image screen. The camera will photograph the position of the light spot on the image screen thereby providing an indication of the deviation of the bore hole.

  • Patent number: 4047338
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing lateral force variations and overturning moment variations in pneumatic tires by detecting the magnitude, direction and location of such variations and alternatingly grinding off opposite portions of the two shoulders of the tire tread. A tire is mounted on a test rim, inflated to operating pressure, and rotated under a normal service load against a loading drum. Force variations in the lateral and radial directions are detected and measured by load cells operatively associated with the drum axle and located at opposite ends of the axle. The sum of the lateral force variation forces or the difference of the radial force variation forces measured by the load cells provides a voltage level signal representative of the direction, magnitude and location of the lateral force variation and the overturning moment variation. The phase angle of this signal is ascertained to determine the location on the tire of these variations.

The panels are preferably formed of foamed synthetic resinous composition and of a limited number of configurations or modules which are interchangeably adapted for use in forming pools having a plurality of shapes, e.g. a straight panel, a concave curved panel and a convex curved panel. Each panel is adapted to mate and lock with the adjoining panel, and with an upper and with flanges and rib arrangements which are functional as well as serve to strengthen the panel. In a specific embodiment, a tongue is formed on the flange on one side and a mating groove on the flange on the other side of each panel for instant connecting and interlocking of adjacent panels when they are assembled in forming the pool wall. A sealing strip may be placed within the groove and abuts on the tongue of the adjoining panel thereby precluding leakage between the panels.

  • Patent number: 4047341
Abstract: The frame structure comprises a pair of spaced apart vertical steel columns with a generally horizontally extending steel beam interposed between but spaced slightly from the columns by spacers carried by the columns. The columns and beam each has a generally H-shape cross-section. Moment inducing wedges are interposed in the spaces between the end faces of the beam and the columns. A plurality of fastening elements are provided at each end of the beam for initially rotating the beam on the spacers and for thereafter fixedly securing the beam to the columns, with the wedges when the fastening means are stressed inducing an upward camber into the beam prior to the application of the dead load. With such a construction the inclined face on each of the wedges is at an acute angle with respect to the vertical. By varying the acute angle or the angle in inclination of the inclined face on the wedge, variable end moments can be induced into the beam.

  • Patent number: 4047342
Abstract: Improvements in area space divider assemblies and components therefore. One component is the bridge means used in connecting two or more wall panels together to provide the divider assembly. The bridge means have projecting longitudinal edges equal in number to the number of panels to be joined together. Receiving means are provided at each end of each projecting edge. The receiving means extend longitudinally inwardly of the bridge means from each end and receive vertically extending connecting means on the panels. The bridge means can comprise a single bridge member for joining two, three or four wall panels together; or a bridge assembly consisting of two, three or four bridge members, joined by links, for connecting two, three or four panels. The invention also relates to novel wall panels and space divider assemblies.

Abstract: A method of polishing material for lapidary and like purposes, the material and abrasive being tumbled in a vibrated container which alternately compacts the material against a wall of the container and then separates it in order to reduce the time required for polishing. Apparatus for carrying out the method vibrates the container of the material and abrasive so that a portion of its orbit is about a theoretical center which is above and to one side of the center of gravity of its mass.

  • Patent number: 4047345
Abstract: A roof structure is fabricated by supporting a lattice of support straps through openings in the purlins, supporting one or more reels of insulation material on adjacent pairs of purlins with the width of the material spanning the space between the purlins, moving the reels along the lengths of the purlins and paying out the insulation material from the reels down into the spaces between the purlins and onto the lattice of support straps to substantially fill the space above the straps to the tops of the purlins. Additional insulation material is applied to the upper surfaces of the purlins. The workmen follow the reels of insulation material and connect the hard roofing material over the insulation material to the purlins to complete the roof structure.

Abstract: An insulated roof structure is formed on an industrial building by mounting a support framework on the purlins in the partially completed roof structure and moving the framework along the length of the purlins. A reel of wire mesh and a reel of sheet material are carried by the framework over each of the spaces between adjacent ones of the purlins and the reels are progressively unrolled and the layers of wire mesh and sheet material are applied to the spaces between the purlins as the support framework moves. Additional insulation can be blown upon or otherwise applied to the sheet material to fill the spaces between the purlins, and hard sheets of roofing material are applied to the purlins as the support framework progresses across the structure.

Abstract: Panel constructions comprising wall or ceiling panels of, for example, fire resistive material such as gypsum board wherein at least one of the lateral edges of one panel has secured thereto a female mounting member and at least one opposed lateral edge of a second panel has secured thereto a male mounting member. The female mounting member has opposed flanges which receive therebetween opposed surfaces adjacent the lateral edge of the panel and is provided with a central elongate channel for making engagement with a like panel to which has been secured the male mounting member. The male mounting member also comprises a channel-like member secured along the edge wherein opposed flanges receive an intermediate portion of the panel and wherein a protuberance or projecting tongue is received in nesting relationship in the channel of the female member. A covering of vinyl or other decorative material, textured paint or other finish is applied to one surface of each of the panels.
