  • Patent number: 4054021
Abstract: An apparatus for simultaneously packaging a series of elongate bodies or articles which are delivered to a packaging location while lying upon an at least approximately horizontal support. A longitudinally movable, endless toothed belt is arranged above the support. The teeth and the tooth gaps of the toothed belt confront the support. The tooth gaps are operatively connected through the agency of openings in the belt with a suction channel in order to suck-up the bodies lying upon the support into the tooth gaps. A stripper mechanism which can be raised and lowered is provided at the packaging location for lowering the series of bodies out of the tooth gaps of the toothed belt into a package located beneath the stripper.

  • Patent number: 4054027
Abstract: A hydrogen motor is disclosed which includes first and second chamber means for containing, respectively, a hydrogen-producing reactant and a hydrogen-replacing reactant that is reactive with hydrogen-producing reactant in order to produce hydrogen gas. The contents of the first and second chamber means are received in reactant chamber means which are in fluid communication with reservoir means for receiving the hydrogen gas produced by the reaction of the hydrogen-producing reactant and the hydrogen-replacing reactant. A gas mixing chamber is in fluid communication with the reservoir means for receiving the hydrogen gas and is also in fluid communication with a source of oxidizing reactant-gas. Compressor means compress the gaseous content of the gas mixing chamber which is then discharged into a combustion chamber where it is ignited prior to working on output means that drive an output shaft.

  • Patent number: 4054029
Abstract: An organometallic polymeric resin is used to impregnate glass filaments (or oron, graphite, carbon, etc.) which are employed in the fabrication of composite motor cases and inert components of a solid propulsion system. The resulting motor case or inert component has the ability of regulating the amount of damage that a nuclear blast would inflict on the solid propulsion system to a level which is below the threshold damage value and the system remains operable. The metal of the organometallic polymeric resin is integral with the resin molecule. The preferred metal is tin which is effective in imparting an ability to stop or slow the passage of photon energy because of its capacity to absorb such energy.

  • Patent number: 4054032
Abstract: A pin puller comprising a piston having a pull shaft extending from a cylinder in which the piston is slidable, is actuated by an explosive charge which, when ignited, develops a pressurized gas that is directed, through a transfer tube, into a chamber extending through the piston and into the piston shaft, from which it is directed outwardly through a port in the shaft into a sealed space behind the piston, to move the piston in a direction to exert a pull upon the shaft and a pull-actuated device connected thereto. The piston slidably receives the transfer tube and is sealed thereto to prevent short-circuit escape of the pressurized gas to the leading side of the piston. An electric circuit is provided for igniting the explosive charge when energized.

  • Patent number: 4054049
Abstract: The device employs an electrical transducer for measuring thermal deformation in a specimen with a high degree of resolution. The device basically comprises a link which linearly spans the specimen in the direction and at the location in which the deformation is to be measured, and a displacement sensor with a broad temperature range such as a capacitance-based linear displacement sensor. The link is fixed to the specimen at one end and free at the other end. The link is constructed with negligible thermal expansion such as by selecting a material for the link that has a very low thermal coefficient of expansion. In one embodiment the link is constructed in two different length sections each having a different thermal expansion coefficient with the sections extending in opposite directions to provide an effective or resultant expansion that is negligible with temperature change.

Abstract: A pressure gauge comprises a gauge vessel filled with an indicating liquid that extends as a column into a reader tube; the gauge vessel has a deflectable wall portion such as a diaphragm that is resiliently biased, as by a plate spring pack in the gauge vessel, to resist inwards deflection under fluid pressure applied to a gauge port to which the deflectable wall portion is exposed. Deflection of the wall portion alters the liquid column length in the reader tube to indicate pressure.Differential and pressure-summing gauges are disclosed, as well as temperature-compensating arrangements.

  • Patent number: 4054061
Abstract: Graduated pipette formed by a stem having an inner diameter of suitable size, while said stem is closed at the top and its lower end presents a beveled edge. The stem is equipped at a suitable height, with a lateral branch formed by a capillary tube with a rubber cap or bulb fixed thereto having a suitable configuration and size such as to delimit a bigger volume than the volume of the stem. The cap presents an inner volume sufficient to move an air mass which, with drawn liquid is enough to fill all of the stem portion below the branch.

Abstract: A tool holder adapted to be mounted on a lathe turret is of rigid, one-piece construction and removably secures any one of a wide range of interchangeable drills of different diameters. The tools are secured at a centerline located at an exact predetermined distance, e.g. 0.375 inch, above the bottom surface of the holder so as to exactly locate the centerline of the tool respective the top surface of the turret. The distal end of the tool holder is spaced fractionally above the base plate of the lathe turret, providing for spring-loading of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4054070
Abstract: A cut-to-size saw mechanism having a dual, programable control system is provided for large sheet material, as plywood, hardboard, chipboard, fiberboard, and other large panels to be divided into small pieces by sawing. Sheet sizes in the range of 5 .times. 18' can be cut with a main strip or strips and a side, residual strip, with the residual having a maximum width up to a predetermined amount, such as 2'. Where desired, cutting patterns necessitate two asymmetrical patterns, the saw mechanism can be programmed to trim all 4 edges of a panel, divide the panel into main and residual longitudinal strips and cut the main strip or strips in one pattern length and the residual strip in another selected pattern length. All sawing is done while the panels or strips thereof are held by hold-down rolls, thereby assuring precision sawing. All sawing of the entire panel is programmed by thumb switches from a control panel and the same program may be repeated on subsequent panels until the programming is changed.
