Abstract: A variety of apricot tree which has dwarf characteristics, close leaf nodes, short heavy branches, stocky trunk, and bears yellow flesh, freestone fruit. The tree height being approximately 30% of a normal apricot tree.
Abstract: An African violet which is a mutation of Colorado, disclosed in my pending application Ser. No. 764,216, filed Nov. 30, 1976. The mutation is characterized by its large white flowers having frilled edges, red-violet in certain areas, and by its vigorous growth, upright and strong flower stems and profuse flowering.
Abstract: A new variety of chrysanthemum plant originating as a sport of Horim (unpatented) characterized by its satiny pure white blooms, vigorous growth, 12 week response, permanence and distinguished from the parent cultivar, Horim, by larger and purer white blooms.
Abstract: A system for removing oil, water and other adulterants from machine shop scrap cuttings. Scrap is inserted in the upper end of an inclined tumbler barrel and passed through a counterflowing stream of hot gases from a burner located at the lower end. Oxygen is inserted into the tumbler barrel at an intermediate position. The barrel is lined with refractory inserts each having contiguous connecting passages of different diameters. The scrap is raised to a temperature near its melting point and compacted into briquettes while remaining hot. Excess fuel gas flow and combustion prevent the aspiration of air into the barrel and thus prevent oxidation of the metal part of the scrap. As an alternative, the scrap can be melted as it flows from the tumbler barrel directly into a melting pot.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R is H, .[.Cl, F, CH.sub.3 or CF.sub.3 .]. .Iadd.m-F, p-F, o-F, p-Cl, p-CH.sub.3, m-CH.sub.3 or m-CF.sub.3 .Iaddend.. The compounds are prepared by cyclizing with ethyl carbonate, a compound of the formula ##STR2## The compounds have anti-depressive, myorelaxing, tranquilizing, sedative, analgesic, anti-convulsive, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory and uricosuric activities.

Abstract: The invention provides novel 5- and 6-benzoxazolyl alkanoic acids, optionally substituted in the 2-position, and derivatives thereof which possess anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic and analgesic activity. Also provided is a process for preparing such compounds by cyclizing an appropriately substituted o-aminophenol and, if necessary, converting the resultant benzoxazole to the desired compound.

Abstract: The improved operating-safety control uses an operating contactor and a safety contactor each having normally open switch contacts and means connect these switch contacts on opposite sides of and in main power series circuits with the electric heating elements of the cooking apparatus effective for controlling electric input to same. An actuating coil is effective for closing each contactor switch contacts, and the control includes an operating thermostat and a safety thermostat each having a heat sensor in the cooking environment and each having a heat sensor in the cooking environment and each having normally closed contacts opened responsive to a set sensed high temperature. The control connects main on and off switch means operatively in series with a parallel hookup connection of the safety contactor actuating coil as one leg and the serially connected operator contactor actuating coil and operating thermostat controlled contacts as the other leg.
Abstract: An electromagnetic interrogation field in a theft detection system is made effectively more uniform by energizing different antenna windings lying in different planes at the same frequency but at different phases so that the resulting field pattern rotates in the vicinity of the antenna windings.
Abstract: An infant thermal shield is formed of a bag of a plastic such as polyethylene which is a material of solid monolithic non-cellular cross-section which is adapted for permitting the audio detection therethrough of body functions. The bag is provided with a hoodless neck opening and is furthermore provided with a longitudinal opening of continuous linear form located frontally or laterally with respect to the bag. The bag is furthermore provided with a bottom opening which can be selectively sealed or held in gathered relationship in order to permit the ingress and egress of connections to medical apparatus. A closing arrangement is provided which is preferably formed of strips of pressure responsive material. The material from which the bag is fabricated is adapted for being held in skin tight relationship over limited portions of the infant so as to permit the effective use of the head of a stethoscope or the cuff of a blood pressure measuring apparatus.
Abstract: A protective helmet and a full face mask for combined use on the head and face of a person, comprises a mask which is adapted to fit over the face and has a peripheral portion for encircling the chin, jaws and forehead of the face. The helmet engages over the person's head and has at least one portion adapted to overlie an edge of the mask. The mask has a receiving bearing recess in the overlying portion of the helmet and the helmet has a locking mechanism which comprises a member which is rotatably mounted on the helmet and has a pin which is slidable toward and away from the recess. The pin is urged under spring action into the recess and, when the member is rotated, the pin rides in the recess to pull the mask toward the helmet and toward tighter engagement with the person's head.
Abstract: In a process for the preparation of heterologous arterial transplants comprising freeing young animal arteries of surrounding tissue, ligating collateral branches, subjecting the resulting arteries to proteolysis to remove elastic fibers and muscle tissue to obtain collagen tubes and tanning the latter tubes to effect cross-linking, the improvement comprising effecting the proteoylsis and tanning steps in a continuous flow manner.
Abstract: A recirculating toilet having a bowl and a storage chamber, and recirculating means for recirculating liquid from the storage chamber through the bowl and back into the storage chamber. Filter means is interposed between the storage chamber and the recirculating means for filtering solid particles from liquid flowing from the storage chamber toward the recirculating means. A treatment chamber is interposed between the filter means and the recirculating means, and the treatment chamber has a volume substantially smaller than the storage chamber. Treatment means is provided for destroying bacteria in liquid contained in the treatment chamber (flush water).

Abstract: An adjustable article of furniture, particularly an adjustable bed, has a frame and a backrest mounted on the frame for pivoting between a substantially horizontal rest position and an upright position. A leaf spring, or a plurality of such springs, is supported on the frame and urges the backrest toward its upright position. A section of the spring constitutes a seat support for the article of furniture, and can be deflected downwardly to a limited extent concurrently with pivoting of the backrest toward its upright position, from the generally straight configuration which the spring assumes when the backrest is in its rest position. The end of the spring which acts on the backrest is freely displaceable relative to the latter, either by being in sliding contact therewith, or by interposing anti-friction bearing means between the backrest and the respective end of the spring. An extension at the other end of the spring supports and biases a legrest toward a predetermined position of the same.
Abstract: An improved box spring construction that provides two mattress supporting surfaces, each of which are of different firmness so as to eliminate the need for mattress stiffening bed boards, and to materially increase the desirability, life and usefulness of the box spring.
