Patent number: 4138777Abstract: A gas laser emits an output laser beam from a low pressure region to a region having a higher pressure. This is done through an opening in the side of a laser device. Under normal circumstances, the provision of such an opening would incur a flow of air from the high pressure side, externally of the laser device, to the low pressure side within the device. To prevent this, an aerodynamic window is placed in a passageway leading from said opening in the laser device through which the laser beam passes. A gas flow is passed across said passageway which will provide a flow which represents the flow of a segment of a free-vortex flow field having a pressure differential across the segment which is equal to that between the low and high pressure regions. A single nozzle, specifically contoured to produce a segment of a free-vortex flow field directs the gas into the passageway and an opening collects the flow onto the other side of said passageway. A method of constructing such a nozzle is set forth.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1976Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: C. Edward Kepler, Roy N. Guile

Patent number: 4138778Abstract: For mounting and dismantling a resilient liner of a pressing roller of a draft-frame in textile machinery preparatory to spinning, a method is suggested which comprises the steps of positioning the liner on a temporary supporting member, inserting the roller into the liner with a snug fit while simultaneously slipping the temporary supporting member away. The worn out liner can be removed by cutting it longitudinally on at least two parallel lines by means of radially projecting blades mounted on a specially provided collar, the cut liner being then manually peeled off. An apparatus for performing these operations quickly and conveniently is also described. The method and apparatus in question permit to dispense with adhesives for fastening the resilient sleeve to its own supporting member, and affords the possibility of removing the resilient layer without damaging the roller in any wise.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1977Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Assignee: F. lli Marzoli & C. Patent number: 4138807Abstract: A glazing strip of extruded polyvinyl chloride plastic or the like has a cross sectional shape such that a glazing putty can be provided in a central cavity for subsequent use by the installer. When used to glaze a window pane in a sash this strip is cut to length from a roll or the like, and a wax paper or the like is removed from mutually perpendicular lands on the plastic strip to uncover pressure sensitive adhesive areas on these lands. The lands serve to hold the strip to the sash, and to the glass pane, while the strip is squeezed by means of a roller or blunt tool or spatula, or one's fingers to cause the putty or caulking compound to issue from a slot provided for this purpose in the underside of the plastic strip. The putty is thereby urged from the cavity into an L-shaped space between the strip and the window sash and pane such that a positive seal is provided for the window pane to hold it in place in the sash.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1978Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Inventors: Martin Trachtenburg, Robert H. Patent number: 4138813Abstract: A guide bar for a chain saw including a pair of plates of a small thickness each formed, on its surface, by means of a press, with a groove extending in its marginal portion substantially parallel to its edge. The pair of plates are positioned back to back at the bulging bottoms of the grooves and bonded together to provide, in a peripheral portion of the guide bar, a chain guide groove defined by the marginal portions of the two plates of a small thickness.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1978Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Assignee: Kioritz CorporationInventors: Tatsuzo Harada, Torao Kobayashi

Patent number: 4138814Abstract: A disposable applicator tray, for topical application of fluoride gel and other dental medications, in the form of an arcuate mouthpiece having a U-shaped cross-section and comprised of flexible polymeric foam material. The interior channeled recess of the tray is anatomically contoured to fit respectively over either of the upper and lower teeth with the walls of the tray contacting the adjacent periodontal tissue. The flexibility of the tray provides a relatively snug seal between the tray perimeter and the periodontal tissue so as to prevent excessive loss of fluoride or other medication contained in the tray and the contamination and dilution thereof with saliva. The applicator tray, which can also serve as a protective mouthpiece for use during athletic activities, is vacuum formed in quantity from a sheet of inexpensive polymeric foam material, thereby permitting it to be economically disposed of after a single use.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1977Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Assignee: Pacemaker CorporationInventor: Stewart Weitzman

Patent number: 4138815Abstract: A console unit, particularly for use by a dental assistant, adapted to carry powered handpiece instruments and to provide storage space and working space utilized during the treating of a patient, is characterized by a mobile construction for easy access thereto. A main cabinet portion is provided for containing support apparatus for the powered handpiece instruments and for providing storage space. An upper work surface portion is movably carried by the main cabinet portion and has an upper generally flat working surface area thereon. A powered handpiece instrument storage compartment is secured to and suspended from one side of the upper work surface portion for movement therewith and for removably carrying a plurality of powered handpiece instruments and attached operating flexible hose for easy removal and use.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1976Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Assignee: Pelton & Crane CompanyInventors: James A. Patent number: 4138816Abstract: A dental handpiece comprising a power source, plugger means, and a disposable cartridge assembly removably engagable with the power source, said plugger means being carried by the power source and selectively movable with respect to the cartridge for passing therethrough in a reciprocal movement, said cartridge including a housing preloaded with selected quantities of mercury and silver, or the like, in separate sealed compartments, and means extending through the housing and engagable with the power source for longitudinal and rotatable movement with respect to the housing, said longitudinal movement causing a combining of the initially separated mercury and silver components, said rotatable movement causing both mixing of the components to produce amalgam for denture fillings and discharging of said amalgam from the housing for engagement thereof by the plugger means, and said plugger means being selectively reciprocal through the cartridge for implanting multiple charges of the amalgam in a tooth cavity, oType: GrantFiled: March 18, 1976Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Assignee: Grace Development CompanyInventors: Fuller Warden, Eugene W. Patent number: 4138819Abstract: An improved square for use on outside corners formed by approximately right angularly arranged first and second surfaces and an outwardly projecting obstruction at the corner. The square comprises first and second right angularly arranged arms each with a precise inwardly facing linear edge surface. Each of the arms terminates a substantial distance from an imaginary inside corner residing at the intersection of first and second lines projected respectively from said inwardly facing linear edge surfaces on the first and second arms. An interconnecting means between the first and second arms takes a generally particircular form with opposite ends thereof connected respectively with the arms and with an intermediate portion extending arcuately outwardly and defining a clearance opening in the general shape of a segment of a circle.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1977Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Inventor: Gershon J.
