  • Patent number: 4177708
Abstract: A multichannel recording medium storer which samples the time course of notes produced by an instrument and an address for each of these samples. An interchangeable keyboard transmits a signal or signals to an electronic computer as to which note or notes are to be reproduced. The electric computer reads the note or notes to be reproduced from the recording medium and from the sample produces a faithful reproduction of the sustained note or notes. The result is available for recording on one channel of the recording medium or for reproduction on a speaker. The instrument is useful for the preparation of musical compositions and for educational purposes and demonstrations.

  • Patent number: 4177716
Abstract: Exhaust system control apparatus operative to automatically close a damper in an exhaust duct leading from a spray booth when the spray booth is not in operation. A reversible damper motor is energized to rotate the damper to an open position when the spray booth is in operation. The damper motor is automatically reversed to close the damper in response to termination of spray booth operation. Energy is thus conserved by reducing the amount of heated air that would otherwise escape through the exhaust duct when the spray booth is not being used.In case of fire, the same damper is automatically rotated to a closed position in the exhaust duct by a spring loaded sprocket assembly on the damper shaft. This safety action takes place in response to the melting of a fusible link located in the exhaust duct and connected to a sprocket retention cable.

The lubricating device is located in a depression in the hard, smooth support surface and includes a piece of flexible, abrasion-resistant, microporous nitrile rubber that is impregnated with lubricating oil. The nitrile rubber has a smooth convex arcuate surface for contacting the character chain. A bracket semipermanently mounts the nitrile rubber in the depression in the support surface such that the convex arcuate surface of the nitrile rubber contacts the side of the character chain that normally contacts the hard, smooth support surface as the chain rotates. Depressions in the nitrile rubber beside the arcuate surface serve as charging reservoirs for the lubricating oil.

  • Patent number: 4177740
Abstract: A combustion apparatus having primary and secondary combustion chambers burns waste wood with an optional third chamber. The third chamber is used to blend the combustion products down to the desired process temperature. High pressure swirl air is admitted tangentially to the primary chamber above a burning fuel pile. The swirl air reacts with a small proportion of the pyrolized gases to maintain a steady temperature at the exit from the primary chamber. The swirl air also centrifugally separates particulate matter from the gas stream leaving the primary chamber. The total quantity of underfire and swirl air is closely controlled to maintain substoichiometric conditions in the primary chamber. Secondary air complete combustion of the pyrolized volatiles in the secondary chamber. The secondary air is admitted tangentially to establish a rotating mass of relatively cool combustion air adjacent to the walls of the secondary combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4177748
Abstract: A flat flotation unit incorporates buoyancy chambers and has a lower portion adapted to be attached to a propulsion unit and an upper portion adapted to grip into the substantially horizontal lower surface of a tabular iceberg. The grip is provided by upstanding support members which are embedded in the iceberg during operation. The support members include heaters and are in the form of hollow right prisms with walls which are grooved to facilitate the escape of iceberg melt water during embedding and which have openings in the vicinity of their connection to the flotation unit to enable seawater to escape from their hollow interiors during embedding.

  • Patent number: 4177749
Abstract: A wind resistant collapsible roadway signal assembly adapted for carrying in collapsed configuration in a truck, car, or the like for assembly and positioning along a roadway as a warning sign or the like when and if a vehicular breakdown occurs. The signal assembly includes an elongated base construction and a sign assembly supported therefrom. The sign assembly is demountably associated with the base construction; when assembled, the sign assembly upstands from a mid-portion of said base construction, and when disassembled, the sign assembly nests in an adjacent, parallel relationship relative to said base construction, all with the sign assembly so demountably associated with said base construction. A single resilient finger integral with the base construction functions both to lock the sign assembly position relative to the base construction and to demountably engage the sign assembly with the base construction.

  • Patent number: 4177750
Abstract: An improved pennant and a method of producing this pennant is disclosed. Designs are printed on a paper material using an offset printing press. Special dispersal inks are used and applied to the paper. The paper is not special, however, the paper must accept the applied ink without running. The colors are printed in sequence usually the reverse of normal printing with the design in a mirror image. A design (photo, painting, etc.) is reproduced on the face or portion of the pennant. This pennant is made of man-made fiber and die cut to a final size. At the long end of the pennant a perforation is made during die cutting so that it can be folded under or over and after printing this folded portion is sewed to form a tube for the insertion of a stick or rod. The paper is cut by die cutting or a guillotine and along at least one edge must be cut very accurately so that this edge of the paper can act as a guide when placed against an edge of the already cut pennant material.

  • Patent number: 4177751
Abstract: A device for affording an indication when a predetermined mechanical shock has been received, characterized by a base, or means for attaching to a container to be monitored; structure for measuring when a predetermined acceleration has been received by the container and the device; and an indicator for indicating to an observer that the shock has been received. Disclosed are devices having (1) a mechanical structure with a breaking point; (2) a mechanical structure with a biasing means; and (3) a structure employing an interfacial tension phenomenon. The devices may be of the "go-no go" type or may afford an indication and history of the shock, or acceleration forces, received. Also disclosed are the specific details of the respective embodiments.

  • Patent number: 4177752
Abstract: The vertical conformance of a steam drive process is improved and steam override reduced by penetrating the zone between one injector and one producer, with an infill well which is in fluid communication with the bottom half of the formation, and producing petroleum from the infill well after steam channeling has occurred at the production well. After the water cut of the fluids being produced from the infill well reaches 95 percent, the infill well is converted from a producer to an injector and hot water is injected into the lower portion of the formation via the infill well and fluids are produced from the production well. By this means, oil is recovered from the lower portions of the formation adjacent the production well. After water breakthrough occurs at the production well, steam is injected into the infill well and fluids are recovered from the production well.

  • Patent number: 4177754
Abstract: A method and apparatus utilized in conjunction with a wire galvanizing apparatus assures a bright finish on the coated wire. This method and apparatus includes passing the wire through a water quenching bath immediately following the emergence of wire from the molten zinc galvanizing bath of a conventional galvanizing apparatus. A pair of pressure pads grips the wire at its entrance to the water quenching bath for substantially sealing the water quenching bath against water leakage into the adjacent molten zinc galvanizing bath. A heating apparatus is directed at the wire prior to its entrance to the pressure pads to assure that the zinc coating is still in a molten condition as the wire enters the water quenching bath.
