  • Patent number: 4197686
Abstract: An easily-installed fabric wall covering system making it possible to support a fabric sheet against a wall. The system is constituted by a frame of extruded molding pieces or tracks that are attached to the wall along the perimeter of the wall surface to be covered. Each track includes a storage channel having a generally rectangular cross-section whose base is extended beyond the rear end of the channel to define a wall mounting flange. The face of the channel has an adhesive layer thereon to hold the margin of the fabric sheet while it is being mounted, the excess tail of the sheet which extends beyond the margin being stuffed by a tool into an inclined inlet at the front end of the channel. This inlet is defined by dilatable jaws that are pried open by the tool to admit the tail into the storage channel. • Patent number: 4197687
Abstract: An insulated closure panel is disclosed, in the preferred embodiment of the present invention, for closing off openings under floors and roof decks where prestressed double tee concrete construction spans are used. The closure panel includes an insulating core sandwiched between two facing members. The top and sides of the facing members are undersized from the top and sides of the core, thus allowing the closure panel to be inserted into the opening of the construction spans such that the core can be snuggly fit in the opening while avoiding chipping of the facing members or avoiding pulling the facing members away from the core. The closure panel can be held in the opening of the construction span by foam type construction adhesive. Further, caulking can be added in the groove formed between the top and side edges of the undersized facing member and the surface of the construction span for providing a seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4197710
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic brake booster for a vehicle brake apparatus which is provided with a pressurizing apparatus which has a pump and a reservoir (accumulator). When the reservoir pressure fails, a switchover piston which is subject to the reservoir pressure can disengage a stop for the push rod of the control valve. The push rod is supported on the stop when the pressure supply to the reservoir is intact and after the control valve switches over in the direction of brake activation. In this manner, a stop for the brake pedal, which activates the push rod is formed which is subject solely to the resiliency of a travel-limiting spring. The stop operates when reservoir pressure is available to effect a longer pedal stroke. When the reservoir pressure fails, it is automatically disengaged.

  • Patent number: 4197712
Abstract: The system utilizes a heat engine which provides shaft power and heat such as a conventional diesel engine in which part of the shaft power drives a pump for fluid to be heated; for example, a cryogenic liquid. The engine heat is used to heat and/or vaporize the cryogenic liquid in a heat exchanger. The heat available from the engine for transfer to the liquid to be vaporized is proportional to the power level of the engine. The heat required to heat the fluid to a desired temperature is proportional to the flow rate of the cryogenic liquid.By providing a loading on the engine which is proportional to the fluid flow rate, a sufficient amount of heat is provided to effect complete vaporization of the liquid, the amount of heat being directly proportional to the flow rate of the liquid. An engine radiator is provided to get rid of excess heat so that the heat supplied equals the heat required.

  • Patent number: 4197713
Abstract: A process and a plant for the recovery of water from humid air are disclosed. Humid ambient air flows through an adsorber in which an adsorbing agent removes moisture from the air by adsorption. Subsequently, air heated by an air heater and delivered by a fan flows through the adsorber in order to recover by desorption the moisture from the moistened adsorbing agent. Thereafter, the water vapor-containing air is precooled in a counterflow heat exchanger and subsequently conducted into a condenser in which heat is extracted from it by means of a heat pump so that the water vapor condenses and is available in the form of liquid water. The air cooled and dried in the condenser is utilized in the counterflow heat exchanger for precooling the air fed into the condenser. The heat given off by the heat pump is supplied to the air heater in order to be utilized therein for heating the air flowing through the air heater.

  • Patent number: 4197715
Abstract: Heat pump apparatus employing a continuous loop passageway containing a plurality of freely-movable, unrestrained bodies. The bodies are accelerated around the passageway in one direction by adiabatic expansion of a fluid between the bodies in an expander region of the passageway. The expanded, cooler fluid is discharged from the passageway via one or more vent-intake ports in the passageway beyond the expander region. Warmer fluid enters the passageway via said ports and is compressed between the propelled bodies in a compression region of the passageway, thereby raising its temperature from a first temperature (e.g., the temperature of the outdoor atmosphere or an industrial waste heat stream) to a second temperature higher than the first. The compressed, warmer fluid is thereafter passed through a heat exchanger to extract heat.

  • Patent number: 4197717
Abstract: An automatically-defrosting household refrigerator including a user-operable "vacation switch" effective to enable the operation of the refrigerator in a mode appropriate to a condition of zero usage. When the vacation switch is thrown to the vacation position, the user is assured at once that unnecessary energy consumption will be avoided and the likelihood of failure of the refrigerator while unattended will be diminished. The mode appropriate to a condition of zero usage includes having the interval between successive automatic defrosting operations extended. Additionally, the vacation switch may be effective to simultaneously disable an automatic icemaker, to increase the temperature set point of the thermostatic control means which maintains the temperature within the refrigerator to disable anti-condensation heaters, and to disable butter conditioner heaters. There is further disclosed a particular means for extending the interval between successive automatic defrosting operations.

  • Patent number: 4197719
Abstract: A multi-cylinder reciprocating compressor is automatically controlled in terms of two speed operation and selective utilization of the cylinders under single stage action to meet heating and cooling loads by way of a two step indoor thermostat and an outdoor thermostat. The compressor may supply energy to storage during heating and cooling or receive energy therefrom with the storage coil selectively loop connected to the outside or indoor coils. Subcooling return is directed to a specific cylinder and overrides refrigerant return vapor to that cylinder from other coils functioning as evaporators. Solenoid operated valves effect unloading of the compressor during start up and automatically effect removal or inclusion of selected cylinders to the single stage compressor operation. Automatic load responsive control of compressor drive motor speed is effected.

  • Patent number: 4197728
Abstract: A length of flexible metal piping includes an interlockably shaped metal band spirally formed into a plurality of winding groups wherein each group includes a plurality of interlocked windings. Each of the winding groups are connected to each other by at least one free winding wherein the leading portion of a first winding is separated from the leading portion of a corresponding subsequent winding and interlocking is prevented for at least one revolution. Each free winding, which constitutes one circumference of the piping, is formed by the insertion of a shaping tool into contact with the leading portion of the free winding prior to the point where this leading portion would normally interlock with the leading portion of a corresponding subsequent winding one revolution later. The shaping tool alters the cross-sectional arrangement of the metal band such that interlocking of that portion of this spiralling band which is contacted by the shaping tool is prevented.
