Abstract: The device proposed herein incorporates the following components located on both sides of the roll mill stand: hydraulic dynamometers for absorbing the rolling force; hydraulic cylinders for creating and exerting the adjusting force; and valves for oil pressure control in the hydraulic cylinder interior. The hydraulic dynamometers are situated between the supports of one of the rolls and the roll mill stand housing and the hydraulic cylinders are interposed between the supports of the other roll and the roll mill stand housing. The interior spaces of said cylinder and the dynamometer communicate with pumping units that deliver oil thereto so as to build up a pressure in the spaces which is in excess of the rolling force. The valves regulate the pressure effective in the hydraulic cylinder interior in direct proportion to the rolling force and the deforming force of the elastic members of the device.

  • Patent number: 4202203
Abstract: An alien liquid detector employs a monitoring element and an oscillatory electronic circuit for maintaining the temperature of the monitoring element substantially above ambient temperature. The output wave form, e.g., frequency of oscillation or wave shape, of the oscillatory circuit depends upon the temperature-dependent electrical characteristic of the monitoring element. A predetermined change in the output waveform allows water to be discriminated from another liquid, e.g., oil. Features of the invention employing two thermistors in two oscillatory circuits include positioning one thermistor for contact with water and the other thermistor above the oil-water interface to detect a layer of oil if present. Unique oscillatory circuit arrangements are shown that achieve effective thermistor action with an economy of parts and energizing power. These include an operational amplifier employed in an astable multivibrator circuit, a discrete transistor-powered tank circuit, and use of an integrated circuit chip.

  • Patent number: 4202227
Abstract: A cylindrical tool holder is mounted on a a housing containing a motor, the output shaft of which is coupled through a gear train to a driving ring. One axial face of the driving ring has cam surfaces engageable with cooperating cam surfaces on an axial face of an axially movable locking ring which is spring-urged toward the driving ring. The other axial face of the locking ring has axially facing gear-like teeth which are engageable with mating teeth on a flange formed on the housing and on a ring attached to the tool holder. A lock bolt mounted in the housing and operated by an electromagnet is withdrawn from a ring coupled to the tool holder to permit rotation to a new position and is extended to lock the holder near the new position.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a method of and apparatus for cutting a slab from a body of uncured light-weight concrete, resting on a support surface. The method comprises the step of moving the body of uncured light-weight concrete along a longitudinal axis of said support surface through a predetermined distance; cutting a slab from said body while supporting the front face of said slab, moving the slab away from said body along an extension of said longitudinal axis; and subsequently moving the slab along at least one arcuate movement path in a plane perpendicular to said support surface and parallel to said longitudinal axis. The apparatus for performing the methods includes a sequentially moveable work feed means, a wire cutter mechanism for cutting a slab from the face of the concrete and a carosel-like pneumatic suction device for holding and transporting the cut slab to subsequent spraying, shaping and stacking stations.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a rotary cutter for rounding the corners of a sheet cut from, for example, a continuous web. The rotary cutter is provided with two blades adapted to be brought into engagement with each other while each blade is rotated by a separate parallel shaft. The rotary cutter satisfies three conditions: the first and second blades have the same blade contours with respect to a common curved edge line defining a plane; each blade at each position of engagement satisfies the relationship of .beta. .gtoreq. .alpha., where .beta. is the relief angle of each blade and .alpha. is the nip angle of each blade; R.sub.1 /R.sub.2 =AA'/AA", where R.sub.1 is the radius of rotation of the first blade, R.sub.2 is the radius of rotation of the second blade, AA' is the edge line length of the first blade, and AA" is the edge line length of the second blade.

Abstract: Apparatus for trimming the front, head and foot ends of brochures has a stationary platform which supports one brochure at a time. A first knife which trims the front end of the brochure on the platform descends in a vertical plane ahead of two additional knives which thereupon simultaneously trim the head and foot ends of the same brochure as soon as the first knife completes the trimming of the front end. The first knife is pivoted forwardly and away from the additional knives while the additional knives move toward and trim the brochure on the platform. This insures that the first knife is held out of the way while the additional knives move to positions in which their forward ends extend beyond the trimmed front end of the brochure.

  • Patent number: 4202234
Abstract: In a generator of musical notes for use as an electronic organ or other instrument, particularly of keyboard type, a computer is programmed to provide control and data signals to external hardware in response to the selection of stops and keys. In response to each change of stop a range of characteristic harmonic structures is synthesized digitally to provide single-cycle reference waveforms for storage for so long as that stop remains in use. In response to the selection of a key in that stop an appropriate reference waveform is sampled, or interpolative sampling is performed between two waveforms, so that an harmonic structure is produced by sampling which is precisely related to the position of the key in the register. The pitch of the note to be reproduced from the digital samples is determined by the rate of sampling which can be finely resolved.

Abstract: An electronic musical box is disclosed in which a musical score can be readily stored and reproduced and the musical score can be easily changed to another. The musical box includes a pulse generator for generating a unitary pulse for a note whose duration is the shortest in the musical score and generating integer numbers of unitary pulses for other notes in the musical score. A tone pitch generating circuit generates tone pitch signals coded by a plurality of tone pitch switches so as to correspond to the tone pitches of the notes in the musical score. The coded tone pitch signals are stored in a memory, and a musical tone generating circuit reads data stored in the memory and generates musical tones.
