Patent number: 4213234Abstract: A profiled vehicle wheel rim is manufactured by spirally winding a continuous strip of ductile sheet metal onto a profiled former, with an adhesive interposed between the turns, under forces which deform the strip from the flat state to adopt the shape of the former. In a preferred construction a disc for the wheel is interposed between two axially separable parts of the former so that the windings bend down over the axial extremities of the periphery of the disc, thus entrapping it in an annular channel of the formed rim.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1977Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: Dunlop LimitedInventor: Peter G. Patent number: 4213238Abstract: Connection of electrical leads to individual charge electrodes in a charge plate structure is facilitated by the integral formation of such leads during the mold stage of formation of a charge plate. An elastomeric mold is formed from a charge plate master coated with a photoresist material and having base area corresponding to the placement of the electrical leads. The elastomeric mold is coated with an electrically conductive resin, and a charge plate is cast in the mold. Upon separation, the conductive resin transfers to the charge plate structure forming charge electrodes. Lapping or grinding the surface of the structure removes excess resin and leaves the electrical leads intact.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1979Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: The Mead CorporationInventor: James L. Patent number: 4213240Abstract: A replaceable blade cartridge shaving system having an elongate handle with a coupling head formed at its terminal end. The coupling head is arrayed transversely of the handle axis and has two elongate substantially parallel coupling flanges formed thereon. The flanges extend transversely of the head and perpendicular thereto. Located between the flanges and extending a predetermined distance from the terminal end of the handle above a plane containing the flanges is a protuberance member. The cartridge has complementary grooves formed along its base for slidable engagement with the handle flanges and a recess is formed between the grooves having sufficient clearance as to allow the protuberance member to fit therein. Attempted use of the handle with other than a cartridge having such recess produces interference between the handle and the cartridge, thereby preventing slidable engagement therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventors: Frank A. Patent number: 4213244Abstract: A coordinate measuring machine having an automatic failsafe protection system. The coordinate measuring machine (10) includes a vertically mounted probe shaft (42) which is preferably counterbalanced by an air counterbalance system (100). The automatic failsafe protection system (200) insures that, in response to a loss of air pressure (or in response to other possibly unsafe conditions), the vertically-mounted, air-counterbalanced probe shaft (42) will be prevented from falling down uncontrollably. The failsafe protection system (200) includes a pair of members (230, 240), with each member mounted adjacent to and on opposite sides of the probe shaft (42) and urged toward engagement with probe shaft by a spring (250). Air under pressure from an air cylinder (210) also acts upon the members (230, 240) to bias the members outwardly away from engagement with the shaft when normal (i.e. safe) operating conditions exist.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventors: Frederick K. Patent number: 4213270Abstract: The direction of movement of a battery-powered wheel toy such as a toy car is controlled by a remotely located, hand-held transmitter. The car has a receiver and two motors mounted thereon, one motor being connected to drive at least one wheel of a first pair of wheels located at a first axle position, and the other motor being connected to drive at least one wheel of a second pair of wheels located at a second axle position. One of the wheel pairs and driving motor are mounted for pivotal rotation about an axis normal to the plane of the support platform for the car. The transmitter sends a modulated carrier signal to the receiver. The carrier is modulated by tone bursts. The duration of the tone bursts is determined by a variable potentiometer that is controlled by the operator at the transmitter. At the receiver, the tone-modulated carrier is detected and demodulated. The duration of the demodulated tone bursts determines the time duration that current is supplied to one DC motor.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Inventor: Nobuo Oda

Patent number: 4213277Abstract: A method of intermittently dressing the ring-shaped surface or active rim of an axially adjustable dished grinding wheel of a gear grinding machine and which active rim acts upon a workpiece. The position of the active rim is controlled and the grinding wheel adjusted such that the ring-shaped surface or active rim is retained at the same location independent of its wear. The active rim is dressed once within a predetermined dressing interval by means of a likewise axially advanced dressing tool. The dressing tool is then advanced if, within the dressing interval, the grinding disk adjustment or compensating feed has dropped below a predetermined total magnitude.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: Maag Gear-Wheel & Machine Company LimitedInventor: Daniel A. Patent number: 4213278Abstract: A hollow cylinder having a bore therethrough which is of a larger diameter at one end than at the other end. A longitudinal slot through the cylinder intersecting the smaller diameter bore. A stud in threaded connection with the larger diameter bore and carrying a relatively thin blade-like, clamping mandrel pin with serrated edges that extends into the smaller diameter bore and extends between adjacent folded ends of a polishing cloth disposed around the cylinder with the ends extending through the slot and across the smaller bore, and which functions to rigidly clamp the ends between the serrated edges and the wall of the smaller diameter bore when the stud and clamping mandrel pin are rotated by 90.degree.. A block with a bore for receiving the cylinder with polishing cloth thereon holding the members together during the clamping process and the block includes an angled slot for back-folding the ends of the polishing cloth.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Inventor: Walter Oberer

Patent number: 4213279Abstract: A dock seal for use around a building doorway against which any of various style trucks can back to create a totally-sealed, safe, dry passageway. It includes several sections around the building doorway each having a sealing body of resiliently flexible and compressible foam material of L-shaped cross-section enclosed in a thin flexible cover. The sections are so arranged that as the truck backs into cooperation with the doorway, a part of its rear edge engages the flexible flange of each seal section so that an effective seal will be created around the truck. This also creates a totally safe dry passageway for loading or unloading. The seal body cover is provided with ventilating means to facilitate compression, bending and expansion of the body and stiffening means where needed. Means is also provided for mounting the seal body for ready removal and replacement.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Inventor: Richard C. Layne
