  • Patent number: 4222170
Abstract: Pattern pieces of a conventional foundation pattern draft are divided into segments along predetermined division lines. Various segments of different overall sizes are joined together and form a new pattern piece. The segments selected for combination into the new pattern piece more precisely fit and accommodate major fitting and structural areas of the body. Adjustment lines are marked on various segments forming the pattern piece. Dividing the pattern piece along the adjustment lines and overlapping the resulting edges of separating the resulting edges or horizontally shifting one resulting piece from another achieves vertical and horizontal adjustment in the pattern piece. A transfer technique involving angular pivotation of one defined portion or sector of the new pattern piece with respect to the remaining portion of the pattern piece in conjunction with other adjustments achieves further adjustment and precise fitting of the pattern piece.

  • Patent number: 4222174
Abstract: The present method and apparatus are believed to be the first to achieve, at least in a practical manner susceptible of widespread use on large numbers of joints, both proper engagement and proper makeup torque between tapered threaded members such as sections of pipe in an oil well or pipeline. In accordance with one embodiment, presently preferred, gage means are employed to determine the actual hand tight plane of each tapered threaded member, and a mark is made on each such member in predetermined relationship to the hand tight plane. Such marks are then employed for field inspection of joints which have been made up to a predetermined, measured, desired makeup torque. In accordance with another embodiment, the members (for example, casing and tubing sections and collars) are made up until the marks on the collar and the pipe are at a predetermined axial distance from each other at a predetermined makeup torque or predetermined desired range of makeup torques.

  • Patent number: 4222175
Abstract: An alignment sight for hand drills utilizes a pair of sights, preferably a fixed tool, a unitary sheet, for mounting onto the exterior surface of an electrical hand tool of the hand drill variety. The sights are arranged so that the sight line extends perfectly parallel to the longitudinal axis located in the center of the chuck of the hand drill. In use, a user marks a spot on the work piece a fixed distance from the center of the hole to be drilled. Positioning the tip of the drill bit at the location of the hole, and locating the drill bit so that it extends substantially normal to the plane of the work piece, permits the user to maintain the sights aligned with the mark thereby forever maintaining the longitudinal axis of the drill bit perfectly normal to the surface of the work piece, providing thereby, a hole extending at right angles to the surface of the work piece.

  • Patent number: 4222178
Abstract: The present invention is a system for controlling the blow through steam in cylindrical dryers such as those used in the paper industry. The flow rate of the condensate is measured as is the flow rate of the steam blown through the drying cylinder. The ratio of the flow rate of the blow through steam to the flow rate of the condensate is thereby measured. Knowing the conditions of the paper going through the dryer, the desired conditions of the paper leaving the dryer and the feed steam pressure, the ideal amount of condensate can be determined and a given ratio set. The difference between the actual measured ratio and the set ratio is noted by a ratio control means and a compensation made by varying the pressure in the steam/water separator which is downstream from the drying cylinder. The amount of blow through steam for a given condensing load is thereby controlled and can be minimized.

  • Patent number: 4222196
Abstract: A garden cloche is erected by folding an elongate sheet of transparent plastics material along crease lines preformed in the sheet. These crease lines include a central longitudinal line and at least two outer longitudinal lines permitting the sheet to be folded to form an inverted V shape with watering troughs along the bottom of the roof-shaped sides of the cloche. Moreover, lateral crease lines extending between the central longitudinal crease lines on a zig-zagging outer longitudinal line on each side of the central line alternate in length so that upon folding the sheet, the panels defined between adjacent pairs of crease lines are alternately inclined to one another producing corrugations which strengthen the sides of the cloche.

  • Patent number: 4222198
Abstract: A tree tie engageable about the trunk of a tree and fixed to a supporting post set adjacent the tree. The tree tie is such that it will yield about and freely permit the trunk of its related tree to grow or increase in size and is such that it will yield, buffer and absorb shock-like forces imparted into it upon rapid movement of the tree relative to the post. The tree tie comprises a collar established of a length of rubber or plastic hose engaged about its related tree trunk, a pair of elongate cable or wire lines extending from within the opposite ends of the collar to the support post with which they are secured by anchoring means and helical spring means within and carried by the collar and connected with the ends of the lines within the collar. The spring means operate to normally yieldingly impart tension on the lines whereby the tree is yieldingly prevented from bending and/or tipping in a direction away from the post to an excessive extent.
