  • Patent number: 4236380
Abstract: An automatic control system for an absorption refrigerator in a vehicle, such as a recreational vehicle, which is connected to a motor-driven generator. The refrigerator is operated alternatively by either 110 A.C. voltage, 12 volt D.C. voltage, or by gas. If gas is only available, the refrigerator is automatically operated by that means, however, the ignition of the gas burner is prevented when the vehicle is stopped in a filling station and the generator ceases to operate. The arrangement has means which delays the closing of a circuit through a control system after another circuit, including a heating cartridge, has been interrupted.

  • Patent number: 4236381
Abstract: A suction-liquid heat exchanger for a heat pump is provided by utilizing an inner vessel as a suction line accumulator together with a surrounding high pressure outer vessel which is utilized as a receiver in the liquid line. Heat from the liquid refrigerant in the outer vessel is transferred to the cooler liquid accumulated in the inner vessel to vaporize it, preventing slugs of liquid refrigerant from entering the compressor. The exit and entry ports of the outer vessel are at different levels. This causes a greater amount of liquid refrigerant to remain in the outer vessel on heating mode operation than on reverse flow for cooling, thereby increasing the heat transfer to the accumulator as required for the greater volume of liquid in the suction line gas and compensating for the decreased quantity of refrigerant needed for heating.

  • Patent number: 4236382
Abstract: In the Improved Vacuum-Freezing High Pressure Ice Melting Process, an aqueous solution is flash vaporized under a reduced pressure to simultaneously form a low pressure water vapor and ice crystals. The ice formed is first purified in a counter-washer and then melted inside of heat conductive conduits under a high pressure (e.g. 600 atm.) and the low pressure water vapor is desublimed to form desublimate (ice) on the outside of the conduits. The latent heat of desublimation released is utilized in supplying the heat needed in the ice-melting operation. The desublimate is removed intermittently by an in-situ dissolution operation utilizing an aqueous such as the feed solution or the concentrate; about an equivalent amount of ice is formed inside of the conduits by an exchange freezing operation. The ice so formed is also melted by the high pressure ice melting operation described. The process uses components that are available commercially and can be reliably operated.

  • Patent number: 4236405
Abstract: A densimeter for measuring the density of a fluid with a disk-shaped body having an axis with a horizontal component and being rotatably mounted on a shaft along the axis. Two open cavities are provided in the body so that the center of buoyancy of the body is displaced maximally from the axis. The body has a generally homogeneous density and includes a region wherein the density is different from that of the disk. Because of the density anomaly the center of gravity of the body is displaced from both the center of buoyancy and from the axis. The outer perimeter of the body and the cavities are circular so as to encounter minimal drag resistance while rotating in a fluid. When the densimeter is placed in a fluid, the disk will oscillate on the shaft. The density of the fluid is determined from the angular position of the disk on the shaft upon reaching equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 4236410
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter in which the fluid to be metered is conducted through a flow tube provided with a pair of diametrically-opposed electrodes. The fluid intercepts a magnetic field established in the flow tube by a magnetizable core having a coil wound thereon through which an excitation current flows, thereby inducing a signal voltage in the electrodes. Because the permeability of the core is temperature-dependent, changes in temperature affect the strength of the magnetic field and adversely influence the signal voltage. Compensation means are provided to render the signal voltage independent of temperature, thereby producing an output signal accurately proportional to flow rate.

  • Patent number: 4236411
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter having a flow tube provided with a pair of diametrically-opposed electrodes, the fluid to be metered passing through the tube to intercept a magnetic field thereon, thereby inducing a signal at the electrodes which is a function of flow rate. In this arrangement, X is the axis connecting the electrodes, Z is the axis of the tube and Y is an axis mutually perpendicular to the X and Z axes. In order to minimize the adverse effect of disturbances in flow profile on the flow-induced signal, an electromagnetic field is established by an electromagnet assembly formed by two pairs of electromagnets, each pair being disposed at diametrically-opposed positions on the tube exterior to produce a magnetic field whose lines of flux are substantially parallel to the Y axis, the two paris being symmetrically disposed on either side of the X-Y electrode plane to create a combined magnetic field having a B.sub.

  • Patent number: 4236412
Abstract: This invention provides a pressure transmitting and sealing apparatus between a high or low pressure fluid line and a gauge monitoring the pressure of the fluid in the line. This apparatus transmits pressure fluctuations between the measured fluid and a dissimilar fluid in the standing line connected to the measuring gauge. The invention is particularly applicable in instances where the ambient temperature is below the freezing point of the measured fluid and a non-freezing fluid is required in the standing line and gauge. The apparatus comprises an in-line piston and cylinder unit which transmits variations in the pressure in the measured line to the fluid in the standing line to the gauge, while maintaining separation of the two fluids and at the same time allowing the non-freezing fluid in the standing line to lubricate the piston and cylinder. In the event of a break in the standing line, the piston will prevent leakage from the measured fluid line.

  • Patent number: 4236416
Abstract: A power transmission for engines, motors, pumps and the like comprises a power shaft mounted to rotate about a fixed axis, an eccentric in the form of a tapered bar having arcuate ends secured on the power shaft to turn therewith, a power transmission ring having a circular internal bearing surface contacting the arcuate ends of the eccentric, a plurality of cranks connected to the power transmission ring by crankpins, each crank having a crankshaft journaled to turn about a fixed axis which is parallel to the power shaft. Power may be applied to any of the crankshafts by a motor coupled to the crankshaft or power may be applied to any crankpin by a pitman connecting the piston of an internal combustion engine or fluid motor to the crankpin. In either case, the power applied imparts non-rotary, planetary motion to the power transmission ring to turn the eccentric about the axis of the power shaft, thereby rotating the power shaft at the same speed at which each of the cranks is rotated but with more torque.

Abstract: An unbalance oscillation generator with constant direction of rotation, in which the resultant centrifugal force is variable due to unbalance on the unbalance shaft including two parts adjustable relative to each other and fixable relative to each other in at least two relative angularly spaced positions. The resultant of the two unbalance forces generated by the two parts varies in value in the individual fixable relative angle positions. A control pin displaceable by means of an adjusting rod extending through the unbalance shaft and projecting from the end face of the unbalance shaft either engages a circumferential groove facing the unbalance shaft but located in the axially non-displaceable part of the unbalance weight or engages a recess or cutout branching off from the circumferential groove. The control pin fits with slight play into the recess and is adapted to be arrested in either one of the respective pertaining axial positions.

Abstract: A wide-angle joint for use in torque transmission couplings between a driving vehicle, such as a tractor, and a driven implement, such as an agricultural machine, includes a pair of universal joints, one connected to the driving vehicle and the other to the driven implement, interconnected by a double inner yoke. The yoke has outer limbs associated with each of the universal joints. Two gear segment pairs, disposed in meshed engagement are supported on the outer limbs of the yoke, each associated with a different universal joint. The gear segment pairs execute a joint rolling movement in a tilting plane disposed at an angle of more than 0.degree. and less than 90.degree. relative to surface over which the driving vehicle travels. An elongated spring is connected at one of its ends to the wide-angle joint and at its other end to an attachment between the vehicle and the implements. The spring maintains the tilting plane of the gear segment pairs at the desired angle.
