Patent number: 4253303Abstract: An engine other than an internal combustion engine, and preferably one incorporating the underlying philosophy of the Stirling hot gas engine, is physically arranged to both significantly reduce its size and weight relative to earlier designs as well as reduce fluid leakage into or out of the engine's gas enclosure. Size and weight reduction are achieved in several ways including that of moving this disclosure's counterpart to the Stirling crankshaft from outside the working-gas enclosure to inside the working-gas enclosure, or at least closer thereto than in existing designs. In several embodiments of the invention, this rearrangement simultaneously eliminates a major source of fluid leakage. In some designs of this disclosure, the Stirling working-gas enclosure, which consists of a power piston and cylinder, are replaced by a somewhat different appearing and thoroughly sealed working-gas enclosure that includes a bellows, this also assisting in reducing weight.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1979Date of Patent: March 3, 1981Inventor: Jon L. Patent number: 4253348Abstract: A comparator circuit compares an engine speed signal with an engine load signal, the latter being furnished to the comparator through transistors controlled by switching signals representative of the condition of the gear range selection lever, the kickdown switch and the magnetic valve that operates, when actuated, to shift from high gear to a lower gear. The circuit is operative only when the kickdown switch is unoperated and the gear range selection lever is in the "drive" position that permits operation in high gear. The magnetic valve position indication is coupled to the circuit through a differentiating network, so that the circuit comes into play only for a short interval following the switching over of the magnetic valve from the high gear position.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1977Date of Patent: March 3, 1981Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Gerhard Will, Walter Stroh

Patent number: 4253349Abstract: A control unit for an engine of the type having a shift means for shifting between forward, neutral, and reverse and a throttle means for controlling engine speeds between idle and high speed includes a housing and a control handle rotatably supported at one end by the housing. Shift and throttle cables extend between the engine and the housing, and respond to rotation of the handle to control the engine shifting and throttle during portions of the period of rotation of the handle. A lock rod extends through the handle and is adapted at one end to alternately engage and disengage with the housing; and when engaged with the housing, prevents rotation of the handle from a position corresponding to neutral and idle throttle. A trigger at the outer end of the handle is connected to axially rotate the lock rod to radially disengage the other end of the lock rod and permit rotation of the handle out of the neutral and idle conditions.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1979Date of Patent: March 3, 1981Assignee: Brunswick CorporationInventors: Larry A.
