  • Patent number: 4259861
Abstract: An electrically conductive metal is arranged within a passage for sodium having leaked, and the temperature change of the electrically conductive metal attributed to the heat of vaporization of which the sodium mist deprives the electrically conductive metal upon contact with the latter and subsequent vaporization is detected. The temperature change of the electrically conductive metal is detected in the form of a change in the current or voltage conducting property, and current corresponding to the temperature change is fed back to the electrically conductive metal. The change of the conducting property is taken out as a pulse signal, and a value proportional to the weight of a sodium mist particle is detected from the magnitude of the signal. Further, a value proportional to the weight of the whole mist is detected by the pulse height analysis. The leakage of the sodium is decided by comparing the value of the weight of the whole mist with a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4259865
Abstract: A fuel-gauging system has a capacitive sensor that is mounted in a fuel tank and supplied with an alternating electric signal from an oscillator. The oscillator output is supplied to a diode-pump circuit that produces a D.C. voltage proportional to the product of the amplitude and the frequency of the oscillator output. The D.C. voltage is supplied to the input of a comparator that receives a constant voltage at its other input. The comparator produces a D.C. output voltage, dependent on the difference between its inputs, which is supplied to an input of the oscillator, the oscillator being arranged such that the amplitude of its output voltage is dependent upon the amplitude of the input voltage. In this way, the product of the amplitude and frequency of the oscillator output is maintained substantially constant.

  • Patent number: 4259875
Abstract: Gear tooth profiles are disclosed that afford a higher torque capacity than that of previously disclosed fine-pitch gearing. To offset the weakness in bending of fine teeth, the transmitted force is divided among two to five times as many teeth as in conventional gearing, by using very low pressure angles, and the tooth interference that would occur between meshed involute teeth of equally small pressure angle is avoided by using profiles of shorter relative radius of curvature. The tooth flexibility needed to offset tooth separation at the ends of the line of action and to insure an equitable division of the load among the maximum number of teeth is obtained by deepening the dedenda. The resulting tooth form increases torque capacity by maximizing the transverse contact ratio and minimizes operating noise by increasing the axial contact ratio.

  • Patent number: 4259888
Abstract: A digital technique for triangular musical waveform generation is disclosed. A musical scale value corresponding to a selected note is repetitively added to produce an ascending series of non-consecutive numbers which is stored in a latch. A carry output from the limited modulus latch is used to switch a flip-flop which then enables an inverter to reverse the slope of the number series. Alternating reversals produce a rising and falling numerical staircase of controllable slope. This can be directly converted into a smooth triangular waveform, or alternatively it can be used as a series of memory addresses for table look-up purposes. The triangular waveform may be symmetrical, or it may have a controlled degree of asymmetry. Duplicate triangular waveforms with a small frequency mismatch may be used to produce a chorus effect. Or plural triangular waveforms with octavely related frequencies may be used as footages related to a single note, again with a slight frequency mismatch for chorus purposes.

Abstract: In order to use cases for firearms of various materials such: aluminum, (which is inexpensive), brass, iron and to facilitate use of greater pressure while insuring reliable operation of the gun, this invention proposes the use of divided holders fixed in the chamber (dies which are adjustable). These holders, after discharge of the cartridge, move back along with the case and the bolt, a very short distance, spread out, loosening the case. The case moves farther along with the bolt, and is ejected in regular manner. The bolt introduces the next cartridge into the chamber, etc.

Abstract: There is disclosed a hydrostatic motor provided with radially arranged hydraulic cylinders provided with radial pistons composed of pairs of pistons with different diameters fitted one into the other. The motor is selectively operable in either of two operating conditions, in a first of which the large and small pistons move as a unit in a heavy duty operation, and in a second of which only the small pistons move in a low duty operation. The motor includes a rotor and a stator, duct means arranged in the stator for the supply of pressure fluid to the pistons, a change-over unit within the motor, and a fluid distributor unit housed in the stator. The motor of the invention employs virtually the same distributing circuits during its operation in both its heavy duty and its low duty modes of operation.

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for conveying gases into or out of a specific area while at the same time providing illumination for the area. A lamp housing is adjustably mounted in a cap which is attached to the free end of a gas conveying pipe. The cap widens from a relatively small cross section area to a substantially larger cross section area with the lamp housing movable at least between a position in which it completely blocks flow through the small cross-sectional area of the cap and a position which, while still completely within the confines of the cap, permits the flow of gas therethrough. Specific embodiments of the invention include one in which the adjustable mount is controllable from outside the cap permitting ease of gas flow adjustment therethrough. Because the lamp housing is entirely contained within the cap, it is protected from inadvertent damage during careless handling in its vicinity.

  • Patent number: 4259900
Abstract: A rotary baling machine for forming large cylindrical bales of cut crop material, such as hay which uses a conveyor belt and an oppositely moving containing belt means arranged to rotate the hay and form the bale in a baling compartment as the machine moves over the crop being harvested. The endless containing belt means surrounds the bale as it progressively increases in size and acts to compact the crop being baled to thereby form a bale of proper density. This containing belt means is trained over suitable elongated rollers which extend across the machine and thereby acts to rotatably drive the rollers. Power means are also provided, such as chain and sprocket means to also power drive the rollers. An overrunning sprocket is provided on at least one of the rollers so that possible over-loading or slack in the containing belt means which is caused by differential belt driving speeds, is eliminated.
