Patent number: 4274270Abstract: An apparatus for stretching an animal hide, such as a beaver hide, to allow the hide to dry, the stretcher including a frame of four tubular members of equal length secured at a common point and extending in a common plane and spaced about 90.degree. from each other, a stretcher member for each of the frame tubular members, each stretcher member extending radially from the frame, each stretcher member having an arcuate outer circumferential portion, a plurality of spaced prongs extending from each of the arcuate portions adaptable to engage the periphery of an animal hide, and means of radially extending outwardly the stretcher members so that the hide is stretched and retained in a stretched position while drying.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1979Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Inventor: Thomas H. Johnson

Patent number: 4274271Abstract: A device for locking a safety helmet to a vehicle such as a bicycle or motorcycle. A post extends from the motorcycle and has a pin-tumbler cylinder lock secured to it for receipt of the limbs of a clevis which extend through holes in the helmet so as to lock the helmet to the post when assembled together.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1979Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Inventors: John Todd, Gregory M. K. West

Patent number: 4274272Abstract: Mechanical digital lock operable through a series of mechanical operations actuated by the depression of digital keys comprises an intellectual combination of essential mechanisms including a plurality of keys, digital selectors, identifiers, locking means and automatic resets. The lock cannot be opened unless the predetermined digitals are sequentially depressed. Once the lock is opened, it is automatically reset. A change of combination of digitals can easily be manually effected without any tool. With its novel structure, it is highly reliable.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1978Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Inventors: David T. Wang, Sun-Tong De

Patent number: 4274273Abstract: A method for controlling the temperature of a workpiece in a hot strip mill includes calculating temperature changes of the strip at each mill stand location by determining changes in workpiece deformation resistance and correlating the changes in deformation resistance to changes in temperature. Error corrections are made for changes in rolling speed. The calculated temperature change at each mill stand is used to control water sprays positioned adjacent the mill stands. A temperature sensor is placed downstream of the last mill stand to act as a check on the desired delivery temperature of the workpiece. Temperature discrepancies from the temperature sensor are fed upstream to modify temperature corrections.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1979Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Donald J. Fapiano, Michael A. Smith

Patent number: 4274274Abstract: The frame (2) of a rolling mill has a U-shaped mounting (12) for receiving and locating rolling stands (8). A pivoted limb (12a) of the mounting can be swung down to form a bridge between the frame (2) and a change-over trolley (5) for the purpose of transferring the stands between the frame and the trolley by means of draw-and-thrust-rods 15.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1979Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Assignee: Kocks Technik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Theodor Zacharias, Bernhard Terdenge

Patent number: 4274275Abstract: A method of producing a corrugated annulus is disclosed which has substantially radial folds therein, the method consisting essentially of forming in one continuous straight piece of metal a curved or arcuate head for a reel or the like which method consists in forming a number of radial folds extending from one edge of the strip to the other, the radial folds being of variable depth decreasing from the inner to the outer periphery of the formed annulus.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1979Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Inventor: Edward Battersby

Patent number: 4274276Abstract: A method for making a centrosymmetrical spider of a universal joint by extrusion molding involves pressing both end faces of a cylindrical blank the same distance towards the center of the blank to force the blank material radially outwards from the center of the cylindrical blank in a stream which is symmetrical relative to the two end faces and into a cavity of a split mold. Also disclosed is a molding apparatus for practicing the method. The apparatus includes a floating mold. One end of the apparatus can be rigidly fixed to a press for operating the punches which provide the extrusion pressure.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1978Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Assignee: Etablissement SupervisInventor: Karl Mettler

Patent number: 4274277Abstract: Metal stock is forged into a blank consisting of a rod-like shank joined at one end to the inner ends of a pair of forks having enlarged flattened outer ends projecting laterally of the forks in the same direction and provided with pin-receiving openings. One fork is aligned with the shank and the other fork extends laterally away from the shank and then outwardly, with its enlarged end projecting toward the other fork. Both forks are then twisted in the same direction to turn their flattened ends approximately 45.degree. into spaced parallel planes, and the longer fork is bent to move its flattened end into a position in which its opening is axially aligned with the opening in the other enlarged end.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1979Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Assignee: Schaefer Equipment Inc.Inventor: Roland E.
