  • Patent number: 4287823
Abstract: A press for forming self-supporting bales of fibrous material from a pulpy mass of the same having a high liquid content wherein the inner sides of the fixed walls of the baling chamber are provided with parallel narrow grooves having holes in their bottoms extending through the walls to the outside of the chamber. The pulpy mass creates rib-like formations in the grooves which block loss of solids but permit escape of liquid from the chamber. The grooves are parallel to the movement of the press head so the grooves are self-cleaning.

  • Patent number: 4287826
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to an in-line, multi-station screen printer which has a first track for receiving a plurality of platen carriers. A series of printing heads are disposed above the first track and adapted to register with the carriers at pre-selected locations. Means are associated with each of the platens to hold the workpiece in a taut position on the platen. A drying station is located at the end of the printing stations and includes a silicone rubber heater which can be brought into direct contact or close proximity with the platen surface to dry the screening ink or dye. Once the drying cycle is completed, the carriers are discharged on a second, return track to be returned to the loading and unloading end of the machine where the operator can unload the carrier and replace the completed workpiece with a new workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4287827
Abstract: In a lithographic printing apparatus, the rollers that supply ink and/or water to form rollers have a surface with minutely intermixed hydrophilic and oleophilic areas. The amount of water retained by a roller is dependent upon the total of the hydrophilic areas, and the amount of oil-based ink retained by the roller is dependent upon the total of the oleophilic areas. A preselected ratio of oil to water is obtained by selecting the ratio of hydrophilic areas to oleophilic areas.

  • Patent number: 4287829
Abstract: A power-and-free conveyor includes a number of pusher dog supporting members attached to a drive chain on a power line. Each pusher dog supporting member includes a pusher dog pivoted at an upper portion thereof and a stopper stopping the pusher dog in a vertical downwardly directed position, where the pusher dog can engage with the free trolley included in a carrier on a free line. The stopper has a pusher dog disengaging portion extending outward therefrom. A disengaging device is disposed on a conveyor line at a location where the carrier is to be brought to a stop. The disengaging device has a stopper raising member which projects into the path of travel of the pusher dog disengaging portion of the stopper. When the carrier reaches the location, the pusher dog disengaging portion of the stopper comes into contact with the stopper raising member which has already projected into the path and the stopper is raised, whereupon the pusher dog is released from the stopper and is disengaged from the trolley.

  • Patent number: 4287834
Abstract: The stops of a draft gear housing of a rail car central coupler have to meet relatively large tractive and compressive forces in service. Up to now the expense involved in the fastening of such stops has been very great. In many cases, where the stops or bearings were joined to the center or stub sill, cracks formed and/or the sill became deformed. This incurs considerable expense for repairs and means a loss of service while the vehicle is being repaired. In accordance with the instant disclosure, to avoid such problems the center or stub sill of the rail car is now made such that the front stop and the rear stop are integral parts of the sill.

  • Patent number: 4287841
Abstract: The application discloses a method and apparatus for cutting bed sheets and the like from a large, continuous length of fabric, forming hems on the cut edges of the fabric panels, and then sewing the hems. The fabric is fed "wrong side out", and one of the hems is formed upside down while the other is formed right side up. One hem is formed more or less directly above the other. A pair of sewing machines are mounted one above the other, and the entire fabric panel, with the just-formed hem folds, is advanced laterally through the sewing machines, simultaneously sewing both hems. By arranging for the mounting of both sewing machines, one above the other, servicing of the machines by a single operator is readily accomplished. Moreover, the substantial amount of fabric between the two hems is accommodated in a generally vertically oriented loop of the fabric providing for highly efficient utilization of factory space.

Abstract: In the ignition system of the internal combustion engine, a preignition control circuit is further provided. The preignition control circuit includes a high voltage generator which supplies a high voltage to the spark plug to produce a preignition spark between the electrodes of the spark plug. The preignition spark is timed to appear as the engine nearly concludes its suction stroke so that radicals are produced from the air-fuel mixture around the electrodes thereby to ensure reliable ignition and complete burning of the air-fuel mixture.

  • Patent number: 4287863
Abstract: An emission control method is disclosed for the current, conventional, piston type, spark ignition, gasoline or equivalent fueled internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder. The method of the present invention increases the engine's fuel economy upwards of 70% from its current level. The emission control method being accomplished by engine modifications including a dual induction system adapted to provide to the engine a relatively low (lean) fuel content and therefore a relatively low power fuel-air mixture. This accomplishes an increased fuel economy and a substantially emission free exhaust, as pertains to the fuel alone. The dual induction system includes a heated intake supplying all of the fuel to the engine in a highly-heated state and a small percentage of the total inducted air, equally as highly heated. The dual induction system also includes an unheated and relatively much larger capacity cold air intake adapted to supply all of the unheated air inducted by the engine.

  • Patent number: 4287864
Abstract: An air-fuel ratio control device characterized by the fact that an electromagnetic valve which controls the air bleed quantities for both high- and low-speed fuel systems simultaneously has a pin inserted in a valve disc so as to prevent the rotation of the valve disc but allow it to move axially for open-close operation, so that the valve disc and the seat always contact at the same contacting portion and maintain a perfect seal therebetween. This enables an accurate control of the air bleed quantitiy and therefore of the air-fuel ratio.

  • Patent number: 4287865
Abstract: A closed loop engine control system for internal combustion engines is described. The control system includes a comparator which is responsive to signals indicative of the presence or absence of oxygen in the exhaust gas of the engine and a set point or reference and is operative to generate an output signal for receipt by a fuel delivery controller which will cause that fuel delivery controller to increase fuel delivery in the presence of oxygen molecules in the exhaust gas and to decrease fuel delivery in the absence of oxygen molecules in the exhaust gas in order to maintain the fuel delivery at the predetermined, and preferably the stoichiometric, air/fuel ratio mixture point. An oscillatory stabilization signal is also applied to the comparator to reduce the amplitude of the limit cycle.

  • Patent number: 4287867
Abstract: An archery bow having a riser capable of being gripped by an archer from which is centilevered upper and lower spring members. Bow limbs are pivotably suspended from the free end of each spring member at the midsection thereof so that each limb hangs on the archer's side of the bow. A bow string is attached to upwardly extended tips of the limbs. Cams, which are rotatably supported from the top and bottom sections of the riser, are connected to the lower portion of each limb by means of a control cable that is reeved to the working profile of the cam. One end of the control cable is secured to the base of the associated limb while the opposite end is secured to the limb's midsection to hold the control cable taut against the working surface of the associated cam. Accordingly, as the bow is drawn, the pull weight delivered to the bow string is controlled by the cam system to provide maximum pull weight at an intermediate draw position.
