  • Patent number: 4308683
Abstract: A trap anchoring stake for anchoring an animal trap in soft or loose soils where in the past excessive stake length has been required to keep the trapped animal from pulling out the stake. The stake has a spring arm connected to the bottom of the stake for outward pivoted movement, and adapted to retain the stake in the ground by lateral pressure on surrounding soil, or by lateral penetration of the top end of the spring arm into the soil, or both. A spring arm latch is provided for connection to a trap tether chain operable to automatically release the latch by movement of a trapped animal, in case the trapper forgets to release the spring arm. An abutment limits outward movement of the spring arm to an acute angle to the stake, and the arm and stake constitute obstruction means which will hang up on brush or the like if the trapped animal succeeds in pulling the stake out of the ground.

  • Patent number: 4308687
Abstract: An infestation of Peronosporales on plant leaves will only fully develop if the leaves experience a period of wetness of a duration sufficient to allow the penetration of zoospores into the stomata of the leaves. The duration of this period is temperature dependent. Apparatus is provided which includes a pulse generator arranged to generate pulses at a rate dependent on the ambient temperature, a signal gate controlled by a leaf wetness sensor to pass the pulses output from the generator only when the leaves are sufficiently wet to favor penetration of the zoospores, and a counter arranged to count the pulses passed by the gate to time a period the duration of which varies with temperature. Upon completion of timing, the counter outputs an infestation signal which causes a monitor counter to start counting the pulses output from the pulse generator whereby to provide an indication of the subsequent advance of the infestation.

  • Patent number: 4308718
Abstract: In a fluid flow machine comprising a compressor including a compressor diffuser and a turbine including an exhaust gas diffuser compressed air from boundary layers or vortex flows in the compressor diffuser is bled off and used as a driving medium for removing exhaust gas from boundary layers or vortex flows in the exhaust gas diffuser. Since the pressure of the exhaust gas to be removed from the exhaust gas diffuser is below the ambient pressure a suction has to be established to remove the desired gas from the boundary layers or vortex flows. This suction is established by an ejector or a pump which is driven by the energy of the compressed air bled from the compressor diffuser.

  • Patent number: 4308726
Abstract: An open top refrigerated display case having an upper display portion for displaying refrigerated products and a lower storage portion for storing refrigerated products. A cooling mechanism cools both the display portion and storage portion of the display case. The cooling mechanism establishes a refrigerated air band which encircles the display portion of the display case. This refrigerated air band is established by circulating air through an air conduit which surrounds the display portion and is positioned above the storage portion of the display case. Mounted within the air conduit is a fan for circulating air through the conduit and a set of evaporation coils for cooling the air passing through the conduit. Air is expelled from one end of the conduit at an outlet opening located near the top of the display case and such air is propelled across the opening in the display case towards the opposite end of the case where it is received by an inlet opening of the air conduit.
