  • Patent number: 4313360
Abstract: Each harmonic of the ten provided is represented by a pair of binary-valued signals; one having the form A .sym. B .sym. C, where A, B and C are octavely related square waves, and the other being a square wave like C. Each pair of signals is coupled to a resistive divider by coupling elements in an additive relation under control of an individual adjustable voltage source. The coupling elements are weighted so as to minimize distortion in the signal resulting from the mixture. The resistive divider preemphasizes the signals representing each harmonic to compensate for a voltage controlled filter in the audio output used to eliminate high order distortion components. In one embodiment a .div.3 counter followed by a binary counter provides the binary-valued signals for harmonics of order 0.5.times.2.sup.n, where n is an integer, and a binary counter driven in parallel with the .div.3 counter provides the binary-valued signals for harmonics of order 1.5.times.2.sup.n.

  • Patent number: 4313375
Abstract: Water containing bark, or the like, is fed into a gap of a bark press, mounted in an inclined plane, the gap being formed between the inner face of a rotating large rigid perforated drum and the outer face of at least one of a plurality of independently rotating smaller compressor rolls. Water is expelled from the bark through the perforations in the drum. Any of the compressed bark which adheres to the drum or compressor roll surfaces is scraped therefrom, falls to the lower portion of the bark press where it is subjected to additional compressive forces and is finally collected at the lower end of the inclined bark press. The relatively dry bark, which is obtained, can be more effectively used as a fuel.

  • Patent number: 4313376
Abstract: An imprinter having a single driving device for controlling both the movement of the heated printing head and the intermittent advancing movement of the pigmented ribbon. The single driving device, which preferably comprises a reciprocal fluid pressure cylinder, causes the advancing and retracting movement of the printing head. A motion-transfer mechanism drivingly joins the printing head to the take-up reel for the pigmented ribbon. This mechanism is of the one-way type so as to effect rotation of the take-up reel, and advancement of the pigmented ribbon, only when the printing head is being retracted. This mechanism also employs a lost-motion connection therein so that the rotation of the take-up reel is delayed relative to the initial retraction of the printing head, whereby the printing head is initially moved out of engagement with the ribbon prior to the intermittent advancing thereof.

  • Patent number: 4313378
Abstract: A "no-lock" printing plate assembly including a plate cylinder having a smooth plate-supporting surface interrupted by an axial groove defining leading and trailing edges, at least the leading edge having a flat undercut end face with a register pin anchored therein. The plate is formed of a thin sheet of resilient material having a smooth undersurface and which is bent over adjacent its ends to define leading and trailing edge portions having respective longitudinal notches, the bend adjacent the leading edge making an acute angle and the bend adjacent the trailing edge making a wide obtuse angle. The width of the gap is substantially greater than twice the plate thickness and the edge portions of the plate are spaced and dimensioned so that when the plate is installed the bends are peripherally spaced from one another to provide clearance between them. The trailing edge portion of the plate is outwardly sprung causing the trailing edge of the plate to be in pressing engagement with the leading edge portion.

  • Patent number: 4313379
Abstract: A multiple payload cartridge connectible to a source of firing signals by two connecting wires having a first and a second branch each having a squib therein connected in parallel across the connecting wires is characterized by a zener diode connected in series with the second squib in the branch containing the same. The zener diode prevents the flow of current through the branch with the second squib until a firing signal of a predetermined polarity and a magnitude greater than the breakdown voltage of the zener diode is applied across the second branch. The zener diode responds to that firing signal by breaking down into a low resistance conduction path to thereby permit an electrical current sufficient to raise the second squib to incandescence to flow therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4313380
Abstract: A distributed charge for use in producing a very sharp impulse for seismic prospecting comprises a series of lump explosive charges placed preferably of the order of at least 20 feet apart in a fluid in a well, connected with novel timed fuses. These fuses are each made of a short top section of a small diameter detonating linear explosive and a considerably longer, lower section which is a non-detonating linear deflagrator, terminating in a blasting cap inserted in the next lower lump explosive charge. The lower section is in the form of a thin-walled plastic tube lined with the active chemical agent. It may be crumpled or bent into various shapes including crossovers without serious problems of disconnection or premature initiation. Accordingly, axial length of each such fuse may be considerably more than the physical distance between the lump explosive charges.

  • Patent number: 4313381
Abstract: A system for mooring a buoyant case such as a marine mine or other marine vice at a preselected depth below the surface of the water in which the case was launched. After the case has been launched, and made bottom contact, the mooring system utilizes a first piston assembly in conjunction with a corrodible pin to initiate mooring line payout from a buoyant case to an attached anchor. When the preselected mooring depth is reached, a second piston assembly terminates the mooring line payout and the ascent of the case, thereby resulting in mooring of the buoyant case at the preselected depth.
