  • Patent number: 4320537
Abstract: A shoulder pad for football players comprising a left-hand member which fits over the left shoulder and a right-hand member which fits over the right shoulder. Each of the members is a relatively rigid member of generally inverted U-shape as viewed from the side and has a chestplate portion, a backplate portion and an arch integrally connecting the plate portions. Each member has padding on the inside thereof with the padding at the top of the arch overlying the shoulder. A pair of caps of relatively rigid material fit over the outer part of the shoulders and have shoulder padding on the inside thereof separate from the arch padding. The shoulder padding is hinged to the arch padding for enabling the shoulder padding to swing upwardly relative to the arch padding.

  • Patent number: 4320539
Abstract: A drain clearing device which effectively employs water pressure to clear a blocked drain where the drain opening is submerged or relatively inaccessible. The drain clearing device comprises a drain sealing member of resiliently compressible material attached to a water supply device having an elongated pipe with a side arm for coupling to a water hose. A plunger valve is mounted in an end of the pipe remote from the sealing member and when activated allows water pressure to clear the blocked drain.

  • Patent number: 4320540
Abstract: Disclosed is a discharge drain assembly (for use in a sink) including a drain body and a plug assembly adapted to fit in the drain body which features limited rotational movement between an open and a closed position. The plug includes a stainless steel strainer with an integral hollow knob having opposed sides which are inwardly concave. The knob securely but releasably retains a slotted head portion of a spindle. The spindle has a neck portion for receiving a sealing washer and a lower body portion including three leg portions. The leg portions support the plug in the open position, restrain rotation in a first direction beyond the open position, and cam the plug to the closed position when rotated in a direction opposite said first direction. The structure substantially eliminates a "finding" problem common in prior art arrangements and provides a good seal in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4320541
Abstract: A venturi type mixer that produces an aerated water jet for spas, therapy pools, swimming pools and the like, is provided with a pulsating action by means of a flow impeding spoiler that momentarily and repetitively disturbs the water jet that is projected into the mixing chamber. Disturbance of the jet effectively disables the vacuum produced by the venturi action to thereby cause discharge of a water stream of decreased velocity having considerably less entrained air. The spoiler is moved into and out of the water jet by means of an automatically reciprocating piston that is operated by a combination of a spring and the vacuum produced by the venturi action. Alternatively the spoiler may be rotated into and out of the path of the jet by a water driven rotor, or the jet orifice may be rotated relative to a fixed spoiler.

  • Patent number: 4320542
Abstract: A portable, suspended outdoor shelter includes a base panel having a pair of stiffening members secured in a pair of sleeves disposed along opposed longitudinally extending sides of the base panel. A pair of reinforcing web members extend along and reinforce the sleeves, and extend substantially therebeyond to be secured to a pair of spaced apart support structures such as adjacent tree trunks or boughs. A plurality of resilient, linear tubular members are bent in inverted U configuration and are secured above and between the stiffening members to apply tension laterally to said base panel. End panels extend between the ends of the base panel and the lower portions of their respective reinforcing web members, with a window and a door disposed in the end panels. A canopy extends between the upper edges of the end panels, and is supported by the inverted U tubular members.

  • Patent number: 4320543
Abstract: A medical pillow providing stabilized support for the head and neck of the user and incorporating a convoluted upper surface is disclosed. The pillow is typically rectangular and has a generally flat bottom and a contoured top. The contoured top has a central depression for placement of the user's head therein and a neck supporting depression area extending between the head supporting depression and one side of the pillow. The head and neck depression areas are curved to conform to the curvature of the user's head and neck. The surface of the top is convoluted to provide more uniform vertical support and improved lateral support for the head and neck.

  • Patent number: 4320547
Abstract: A punch and binding machine binds material into a booklet with a plastic comb-binding in one continuous operation. The machine combines a conventional multiple hole punch with a uniquely designed binder. A conveyor system moves the material first to the punch machine and then to the comb-binder where an auxillary conveyer moves the material into an opened comb-binding so that the extended fingers of the comb-binding may be released to bind the material into a booklet.
