Abstract: On the head of a conventional drawing apparatus, locking means consist of a toothed circular plate 1 integral with the support C, a toothed circular plate 2 integral with the turning handle and rule carrier, the plates 1,2 being concentric and rotating in a same plane, and a third toothed plate 3, forced towards the plates 1 and 2 by springs 4 so as to mesh with the plates 1 and 2 making them integral with each other. This plate 3 is movable axially along a hub E, while maintained perpendicular to the axis of said hub; it may be disengaged from the plates 1 and 2 by exerting a pressure on a pusher 5 which actuates a lever 6 which lifts a small plate 7 connected to the plate 3 by columns 8.

  • Patent number: 4359825
Abstract: An attachment for a drafting machine having a protractor head has a scale which is securable to the head. By operation of the head, the scale is movable on the drawing board between a first position and a second position disposed at a predetermined acute angle to the first position. On the ruling edge of the scale, there is an index point which is usable when the scale is in the first position to mark the location for the placement of a required symbol. A template is mounted below the scale for rotation about an axis perpendicular to the drawing board and this template is provided with a plurality of outlines which serve as stencils for applying symbols to a drawing. An indicator on the structure supporting the template enables a particular symbol outline to be selected and placed in a position which will coincide with the marked location when the scale is moved to the second position.

  • Patent number: 4359826
Abstract: A drying system and method for removing volatile liquid from a liquid bearing web of material by evaporation includes means for moving the liquid bearing web of material through a drying station and heating means, positioned at the drying station, for applying evaporation energy to the liquid bearing web of material to effect evaporation of the volatile liquid from the web. Electrostatic means is provided for subjecting the web of material to a static electrical field at the drying station, whereby the evaporation of volatile liquid from the web is enhanced. Evaporation energy may be applied to the liquid bearing web by bringing a heated surface in contact with the web or by irradiating the web with infrared energy. Alternatively, evaporation energy may be applied to the liquid bearing web by directing heated air against the web.

  • Patent number: 4359827
Abstract: An improved paper drying process and machine are described in which the paper web is supported independently of velocity-induced stresses thus permitting operation at speeds significantly in excess of the prior art for each paper grade. The process requires: (1) transporting the web on a supporting fabric that travels from the last press nip through at least the initial portion of a drying section; and (2) holding the web onto its supporting fabric by employing forces normal to the major web surfaces sufficient to overcome those forces which tend to lift the web from its supporting fabric. The web on its supporting fabric travels a serpentine path through the drying section about drying cylinders with the web alternating between direct contact with a drying cylinder followed by indirect contact with the subsequent cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4359828
Abstract: An improved vacuum box is described for holding a paper web onto a supporting fabric wherever velocity stresses would otherwise separate the web from its supporting fabric and expose the web to those stresses. Specially shaped vacuum boxes are fitted into the dryer "pockets" formed between the rows of a double row of adjacent drying cylinders and the web traveling a serpentine path between them. Pressure differential zones of the box hold the web onto its supporting fabric as the web and fabric travel between heated drying cylinders. A first zone leads the departure of the web and fabric from the web-wrapped cylinder to ensure that the web is positively held to the fabric as it leaves the cylinder. A second arcuate suction zone adjacent a fabric-wrapped cylinder evacuates grooves in the adjacent cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4359829
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a drying cylinder for a paper making machine. The drying cylinder is hollow and is circumferentially grooved along the length of its inner surface. A plurality of collector conduits extend axially along the casing. Suction pipes project from each collector into respective ones of the grooves for sucking condensate therefrom. A siphon pipe is connected to each collector for siphoning off the collected condensate. The siphon pipe is insulated to reduce the temperature differential between the interior and exterior thereof. The suction pipes are shaped and/or spaced so that the suction pipes are able to remove a greater amount of condensate from the grooves in the vicinity of the siphon pipe than from the grooves in the remainder of the length of the casing, for attaining more uniform drying performance by the drying cylinder across the width of the web.

  • Patent number: 4359831
Abstract: A vehicle drawn snow tiller for loosening, cutting, grinding, packing and leveling a wide path of snow for improved, more enjoyable skiing. The tiller comprises an elongate rotary snow cutter assembly with radially projecting snow cutting blades distributed over the length and about the circumference of a cutter tube directly powered by reversible hydraulic motors, one mounted upon each of its ends. The snow is cut, selectably, in or away from the direction of travel of the tiller over the snow. An elongate apron disposed over the cutter assembly collects and directs the loose cut snow onto the surface behind the cutter assembly, where it is compacted by the apron and finally leveled and smoothed by a horizontal grooming bar on the trailing edge of the apron. According to one aspect of the invention, an elongate snow splitting baffle may be disposed above the cutter to deflect a portion of the cut snow forward to fall again into the path of the reversely rotating cutter for additional cutting and grinding.
