  • Patent number: 4428089
Abstract: A method of forming an article of footwear to fit a predetermined foot is provided by modifying the shape of such an article in which the foot is readily engageable by in-situ formation of a resilient foam moulding in the free space between the article and foot. The moulding is preferably reinforced to resist abrasion during subsequent use, and this suitably involves the location of a woven or knitted resilient sock on the foot for impregnation by the moulding material. Also the moulding can bond spontaneously to the article. The moulding is preferably permeable, and need not fill the free space between the foot and article, but can be restricted by suitable location of inserts. The method is particularly suited to situations where the foot is abnormal.

  • Patent number: 4428106
Abstract: Improved double wall tubing assembly which is especially useful in heat exchangers of the "coil-in-can" type for solar applications has a double wall construction which insures that a leak developing from a failure in either of the walls will not result in a mixing of fluid external to the outer tube with the fluid flowing internally of the inner tube. An outwardly projecting helical fin configuration formed on the outer surface of the inner tube provides an effective heat transfer medium between the inner and outer walls of the tube assembly while defining a spiral flow channel through which leakage entering through either wall can flow and be detected. A method of making the double wall tube assembly is disclosed wherein a finned outer tube is assembled over a previously finned inner tube. The assembled tubes are then brought into firm mechanical contact by the step of forming the assembled tubes into a coil and/or by expanding the inner tube.

  • Patent number: 4428107
Abstract: To fill up the ring-shaped gaps between the tubes and fins of a tube and fin type heat exchanger with a corrosion protective hardenable filler, a unit made up of two closing pieces with filler material between them is pushed by means of the tube to be inserted in the stacked fins through the space formed by the collars of the openings in the fins which are stacked together for assembly into a heat exchanger. On passing this unit through the stacked fins the ring-shaped gaps are filled up with the filler material. The remaining thin film on the collars is also forced into the ring-shaped gaps when the tubes are subsequently expanded. A device for carrying out the process comprises a sleeve with a mandrel which slides inside the sleeve and forms a seal with the sleeve and a piston which likewise slides in the sleeve and forms a seal therewith and which lies ahead of the mandrel forming a space which can be varied in size and which accommodates the filler material.

  • Patent number: 4428115
Abstract: An apparatus and method are described for preconnectorization of the ends of a cable for pulling through a standard diameter duct. The apparatus utilizes a connector consisting of three major parts: first and second wire organizers and a contact element means. The wire organizers are of a form factor sufficiently small and are organized such as to fit around the cable core without increasing the outside composite diameter of the cable. The apparatus further includes two forms of cable pulling devices.

  • Patent number: 4428118
Abstract: An apparatus for parting pipe has two shearing members bearing against each other and mutually movable along a cutting plane and with holes for the pipe which form exterior shearing edges. The pipe bore is supported by a mandrel divided into two sections mutually displaceable and forming interior shearing edges. The moving shearing member is driven by a crank mechanism, including a single crankshaft, at a mounting arrangement spaced from a bearing arrangement via which the fixed and the movable shearing members are mounted and guided and in which an elongate hole has its longitudinal axis directed towards the crankshaft and a bolt adapted to said hole.

  • Patent number: 4428121
Abstract: A test indicator is disclosed wherein a rotational displacement value of a measuring element is enlarged and transmitted by a sector gear supported on a main body of the test indicator to an indicating device, and the aforesaid sector gear is urged in two rotational directions opposite to each other by two springs so that the sector gear can be held at the neutral position. The two springs for urging the sector gear are previously differentiated in resiliency from each other so as to provide two springs, one being stronger and the other weaker in resiliency, and the stronger spring is abutted thereagainst with a spring-load finely adjusting means positionally adjustably supported on the main body of the test indicator in the urging direction of the spring from the side of resisting the resilient force of the spring, whereby this spring-load finely adjusting means is adjusted in its position to vary its resilient force, so that the sector gear can be adjusted in position.

  • Patent number: 4428123
Abstract: An improved mounting between a cylindrical package, containing a sensitive instrument, and a protective cylindrical housing disposed thereabout. Plugs at opposite ends of the housing each have a conical recess opening toward the other plug and between which the package is confined. O-rings at each end of the package engage the tapered wall of the adjacent recess and absorb longitudinal and radial shock and center the package within the housing. To restrain relative rotational movement between the housing and instrument package, a plurality of coil springs are disposed within aligned bores in an end of the package and the adjacent plug.
