  • Patent number: 4439931
Abstract: Control means for a drier for films or sheets using a minimum of electric power. A heater is connected to a semiconductor switch and an alternating-current power supply in series. An oscillator outputs a pulse to a turn-on terminal of the semiconductor switch via an OR gate in synchronization with a certain phase angle of the wave form of the alternating voltage turning on the semiconductor switch for approximately 10% of the rated value of the heater thereby preheating the heater. When an entrance sensor detects the presence of films or sheets entering the drier, a starting signal is sent to a flip-flop circuit which outputs a high level signal to the turn-on terminal of the semiconductor switch via the OR gate activating the heater to full rated value. The high level signal is also sent to the turn-on terminal of a second semiconductor switch activating a second heater and a blower.

  • Patent number: 4439955
Abstract: An asphalt composition ridge cover and method of forming the same whereby a decorative appearance somewhat resembling that of a shake roof ridge cover is achieved. The ridge cover generally is a flat, approximately rectangular piece of asphalt composition roofing material, having a plurality of tabs at one end thereof which are multiplely folded over one another thereby forming a region of increased thickness at that end. When installed, the thickened portions give the ridge covers, and the ridge on which they are installed, the appearance of a shake shingle or tile roof while maintaining double coverage as required in many installations. One particular shape of the unfolded cover permits a very economical cutting of such covers from a roll of asphalt composition material.

A fascia member is detachably secured to the spring clip member and presses the roof member into engagement with the cant member and the spring clip member to maintain the roof member therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4439957
Abstract: A housing module which is formed as a box-beam structure, and has sufficient rigidity and strength so that it can be used to span distances of relatively great length. The housing unit is able to be prefabricated and can be readily transported without the need for additional support or stiffening members to prevent damage from excess flexure. Further, the unit can be simply put in place on site without any additional stiffening or strengthing members. In addition, the units can be stacked one over the other, thus greatly increasing their flexibility to the architect.

  • Patent number: 4439959
Abstract: A residential building construction comprising four interconnected foundation walls which are partially sunk below a ground surface and support the floor across their upper end. Two side walls, a front wall and a back wall are supported by and extended upwardly from the foundation walls while a roof extends across and covers the side walls, back wall and front wall. A first interior wall extends between the floor and the roof at a position spaced inwardly but parallel to the front wall while, similarly, a second interior wall extends between the floor and roof at a position spaced inwardly but parallel to the back wall. The interior walls together with the building side walls form a living space of conventional height. In addition, the housing front wall preferably includes two windows having portions extending both above and below the housing floor. These windows provide illumination for the lower living level and, simultaneously, give the building construction the appearance of a conventional ranch home.

  • Patent number: 4439960
Abstract: The insulation panel (26) includes a corrugated sheet (28) having a fibrous blanket of insulation (32) secured thereto and an end cap (41) secured to an upper portion of the corrugated sheet (28). The end cap (41) provides a means by which an upper portion of the panel (26) may be anchored to a vertical structural wall (11) to be insulated and a means by which a panel (26) in a next upper row may be supported. After installation, fastening means (43) between the end cap (41) and the corrugated sheet (28) is removed to allow the upper portion of the corrugated sheet (28) to float in the end cap (41) and compensate for thermal expansion and contraction. In another embodiment of the panel (26a), the fastening means (43a) between the end cap (41) and the corrugated sheet (28) is frangible and shears in two upon expansion and contraction of the corrugated sheet (28).

  • Patent number: 4439961
Abstract: A leveling and locating or positioning device is disclosed which includes a force-bearing structure which is guided for vertical leveling movement by a vertical reference device which also provides a horizontal position reference. Horizontal movement of a tapered wedge device, which operatively interfaces with a sloped floor member of the force-bearing structure, causes vertical movement of the force-bearing structure and the resulting leveling function. A horizontal extender device, slidably mounted to and supported by the force-bearing structure, provides the horizontal locating or positioning function. A support device is operatively included or mounted to one end of the horizontal extender device and is configured to operatively interface with the member or device which is to be leveled and located or positioned.

Abstract: The skylight may be of the domed-type or flat type and of single or double glass (acrylic or other transparent or translucent plastic) construction. The skylight fits within an opening in a roof or the like and has a peripheral curb of aluminum or the like material which is fixed to the roof construction about the opening. The curb member or frame at its top receives a flexible thermoplastic (such as PVC) gasket compressible against the edge of the glass or plastic dome or panel. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention the frame may be constructed of a material such as PVC, in which case the top gasket may be integral with the frame or curb. In this case there may also be a second flexible thermosplastic gasket adapted to contact a retainer secured to the curb for retaining the dome or panel on the curb.

Abstract: The invention is directed to an improved joint between building panels, e.g. molded roof panels for prefabricated bay windows, wherein the joint consists of a slot in the edge of one of the panels. The slot has side walls, each of which is at a different angle relative to the plane of the panel. The edge of the other panel is inserted into the slot and the respective side walls thereof are engaged by one side or the other of the edge of the other panel to locate the other panel in one angular position or another with respect to the plane of the first panel.

  • Patent number: 4439965
Abstract: A door-casing element comprises an elongated inner metallic profile, an egated outer metallic profile parallel to and spaced outwardly from the inner profile, an elongated thermally relatively nonconductive connector between and engaging both of the profiles, and ratchet formations securing the profiles in spaced-apart relationship to the connector. The inner and outer profiles are spaced so it is possible to form them of aluminum, which can be made with an attractive anodized finish and which can be used in outdoors applications without danger of rust. The thermally nonconductive connector, which can be made of rigid and fire-resistant gypsum fibers, will not transmit heat effectively between the two profiles so that the resultant casing can easily be of high firecode rating.
