  • Patent number: 4467524
Abstract: A cutting tool for cutting open corrugated shipping cartons includes a cutting blade and a holding arrangement for the cutting blade. The holding arrangement includes a holding member on which the cutting blade is held in its cutting position by being accommodated in a recess and having a stationary pin extend into a slot thereof. The holding arrangement includes a contact surface which engages the edge region of the respective carton at the side wall thereof, and a distancing surface which engages the top wall of the carton during the cutting operation to determine the distance of the cutting blade from the top wall, while the contact surface determines the degree of penetration of the cutting edge of the cutting blade into the interior of the shipping carton. These surfaces are so positioned as to avoid any damage to the contents of the shipping carton.

  • Patent number: 4467525
Abstract: An automated sign generator produces large scale text on sheet material by means of a cutting tool which is guided relative to the material in accordance with preprogrammed data. The sheet material is supported for movement in one coordinate direction relative to the tool by a feed roller, and the cutting tool is supported for movement in an orthogonal coordinate direction parallel to the roller. Several cutting tools are employed and one of the tools is heated to penetrate through a vinyl sign material that is releasably secured by a pressure sensitive adhesive to a paper release liner. A plotting tool can also be substituted for the cutting tool to plot the sign on plain paper. The sign generator is controlled by a microprocessor and the font from which the sign text is prepared in stored in a ROM memory. A keyboard coupled with the microprocessor is utilized to control the machine operation as well as compose the sign text.

  • Patent number: 4467530
Abstract: A method and apparatus for batch continuous laundry processing involves a system for continuously centrifugally extracting fluids from sequentially received batches of washed laundry. The discrete batches of laundry are continuously received by a conveying apparatus that automatically loads the batches into the discrete compartments defined within the segmented drum of the extractor. While the extractor is rotating, the conveying apparatus arranges a plurality of laundry batches to be quickly loaded into the extractor upon completion of the processing of the previous batches so that the conveying and processing is completely continuous and automatic. The conveying apparatus is vertically, laterally and longitudinally translatable to receive the batches from a washer at one level, to arrange the batches in two rows, and then to automatically feed them, for example two at a time, into the compartments of the segmented extractor.

  • Patent number: 4467532
Abstract: An apparatus and process for drying lumber under vacuum conditions using a drying vessel operationally connected to a sump which collects the extracted moisture. Vaccum conditions are maintained in the vessel and in the sump within the range of 10,000 to 15,000 microns, which reduces the boiling point of water to less than 80.degree. F. The temperature within the vessel is raised to approximately 105.degree. F. by a heating source and this combination of reduced pressure and elevated temperature causes the moisture in the lumber to boil off as vapor. This vapor is condensed inside the vessel by refrigeration coils cooled to a temperature between 36.degree. F. and 42.degree. F., and the liquid condensed on the coils is carried to the sump through a drain pipe where it is pumped to waste disposal through a flow meter.

  • Patent number: 4467539
Abstract: A front end loader has a loading bucket secured to a tractor and a transversely elongate cutter blade closely spaced forward of a lower front edge of the bucket. Improved apparatus for reciprocating the blade in forward and aft directions relative to the front edge of the bucket is disclosed. A force transmitting beam has a resonant frequency with at least one node and first and second anti-nodes at the resonant frequency. A source of vibrations at or near the resonant frequency is coupled to the beam near the first anti-node to vibrate the second anti-node about a neutral position. The beam is secured near one node so as to locate the neutral position of the second anti-node in spaced relationship from the cutting blade within striking distance thereof. The second anti-node thus applies unidirectional force impulses to the blade in a forward direction as the second anti-node vibrates to drive the blade intermittently forward.

  • Patent number: 4467541
Abstract: In a transparency mount of plastic a pair of flap-like covering members are hingedly connected to opposite outer edges of a substantially square base plate having a picture opening therein. The covering members are formed integrally with the base plate and are both adapted to be folded in over one side of the same, against which marginal portions of the transparency are to be seated. In their folded-in positions the covering members, which are generally rectangular in shape, overlap opposite marginal portions of the transparency but leave considerable area portions of the base plate outside the picture opening free, and these area portions are raised to lie substantially flush with the upper faces of the folded-in covering members, thereby stiffening the mount. In their folded-in positions the covering members are retained by pegs protruding from the base plate and entering mating apertures in the covering members, the pegs serving also as positioning means for the transparency.

  • Patent number: 4467554
Abstract: This invention is a toy in which two principal assemblies of parts are made to counter-rotate by a concentric internal coil spring, previously wound up by hand, whose tension is maintained by a one-way clutch and is released when the weight of the toy, when it is placed on a flat surface, disengages the clutch. A carrying handle, in the form of a miniature fence of posts and railings, is attached to the upper assembly. A mechanism is incorporated to free the inner end of the spring from its arbor when the energy of the spring is spent, so that the assemblies may continue to counter-rotate by inertia without damage to the spring. The toy is equipped with a lighting system of flashing light-bulbs around the perimeter and in a central transparent cupola, supplied with energy from flashlight-type electrical batteries in a central tubular shaft through a switch on the upper assembly.

  • Patent number: 4467560
Abstract: A method for separation of seeds, in which the seeds are incubated in a suitable environment and then dried to produce a pronounced difference in moisture content between filled-dead seeds and filled-viable seeds. These two seed fractions are then separated from each other by utilizing the moisture content difference. The seed fractions may e.g. be separated from each other by placing seeds in a liquid the density of which is somewhat lower than the density of viable seeds but higher than the density of filled-dead seed. In such a case the filled-dead seeds will float up whereas the viable seeds sink.

Abstract: A measuring controlling device for a circular grinding machine including grinding means and workpiece retaining means for rotatably holding a workpiece to be ground comprises two measuring key devices and a measuring head for supporting the measuring key devices. The measuring key devices are located on a diametrical line extending through the central axis of the workpiece to be ground and are brought into contact with the outer surface of the workpiece therebetween. The measuring head is moved relative to the axial direction of the workpiece to be ground so that the measuring key devices can contact the entire outer surface of the workpiece. Consequently, the workpiece can be ground by means of the grinding means into a predetermined profile with reference to the actual profile measured by the measuring key devices.

  • Patent number: 4467567
Abstract: A method for crown grinding of gear teeth having lengthwise curved teeth and a grinding head for the performance of the method, wherein there are ground the outer and inner flanks by means of rotatable, individually driven grinding elements or bodies, which are mounted in a grinding head rotatable about an axis of rotation and, during grinding, forming an outer as well as an inner envelope surface which is coaxial with respect to the axis of rotation of the grinding head. In order to be able to crown grind teeth flanks with greater accuracy, the axis of rotation of the grinding head is adjusted in spaced relation from a computation point of a tooth lengthwise line of the tooth flank, which is different from the spacing of the computation point of the tooth lengthwise line from a center serving as the center for non-crowned tooth flanks.
