  • Patent number: 4502199
Abstract: A rod, preferably made of metal and partially or completely threaded, is introduced into a body that is preferably wooden and previously drilled, applying a rotary motion at one end of the rod, the rod and the wooden body being thus intimately joined through the effect of self-threading. When one or several rods pass through a number of wooden elements, a very effective union is obtained between the elements. In this way, the mechanical resistance of a piece can be increased and units can be produced through the assembly of elements joined by this method. The units can be articulated about the rod as a pivot. A machine is disclosed which can do the job automatically.

  • Patent number: 4502200
Abstract: What are disclosed are method and apparatus improvements in a heliostat for reflecting solar energy onto a collector, the heliostat having a main support structure with pivoting and tilting motors and controls and mirror modules for reflecting the solar energy. The improvement is characterized by one of a combination, or curved, or lightweight mirror module in which the curved mirror focuses the energy more precisely, attenuates differential expansion due to temperature change, yet is simple and economical to build and is light enough in weight to enable building larger modules for the heliostats, as well as building larger heliostats. The specific improvement is characterized by a curved mirror formed over a plurality of templates with longitudinal support beams holding it into the predetermined curvature with transversely extending structural beams and attachment bolt for attaching it to the heliostat. Also disclosed are specific preferred methods steps and structural components.

  • Patent number: 4502202
Abstract: In stacked CMOS, a single gate in first level polysilicon is used to address both an n-channel device in the substrate and an overlaid p-channel device. The p-channel polysilicon device has its channel self-aligned to the gate, by the use of a boron-doped oxide at the sidewalls of the gate. This boron-doped oxide provides a dopant source which dopes the second polysilicon layer to provide heavily doped source/drain extension regions which are self-aligned to the gate in first poly. A mask level is still required to pattern the sources and drains, but the self-aligned source/drain extension regions mean that the source/drain mask level can have a reasonable alignment tolerance.

  • Patent number: 4502203
Abstract: A method for fabricating a photodetector device including a single pixel or an array of pixels, each of which is constituted by a single vertical type SIT (Static Induction Transistor). First and second main electrode regions are formed on respective first and second main surfaces of a silicon wafer. Control gate and shielding gate regions, as well as drain and source regions as well, are formed using a single common masking step. As a result, the formation of these regions is precisely controlled, resulting in superior photoresponse characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4502204
Abstract: A method of manufacturing insulated gate thin film field effect transistors is disclosed in which first and second closely adjacent anodic oxidation electrodes are formed on an electrically insulating substrate, and a semiconducting layer is formed on the insulating substrate and the first and second anodic oxidation electrodes. An anodic oxidation of the semiconducting layer is performed, utilizing the first and second anodic oxidation electrodes, to form an oxide layer on the semiconducting layer. The oxide layer is then patterned to form a gate insulator and the semiconducting layer is patterned to expose a portion of each of the first and second anodic oxidation electrodes. The exposed portions of the first and second anodic oxidation electrodes are patterned to form source and drain electrodes, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4502205
Abstract: A method of forming an impurity region for an MIS type semiconductor device includes the step of activating an implanted impurity with an energy beam anneal, said implantation comprising multiple impurity ion implantation steps with varied implantation energies. The implantation energy and dosage are selected to provide a total peak concentration of implantation profile which does not exceed the electrically active solubility. The energy beam anneal is performed in such a way that the implanted impurity is substantially activated without redistribution. An impurity region with low sheet resistance is obtained, lateral diffusion of the impurity is suppressed, and the leakage current is kept low.

  • Patent number: 4502208
Abstract: A method of making an electrically-programmable memory array in which the memory elements are capacitor devices formed in anisotropically etched V-grooves, providing enhanced dielectric breakdown at the apex of the groove. After breakdown, a memory element exhibits a low resistance to a grounded substrate. The method includes forming access transistors in series with the memory elements, and polycrystalline silicon, deposited to form control gates of the access transistors, also forms address lines. Oxide is formed in the V-groove thinner than the gate oxide thickness formed for the access transistor, providing a lower programming voltage. These factors provide a very small, high speed device.

  • Patent number: 4502239
Abstract: Method and apparatus for loading cartridges into a relatively large capacity firearm magazine of, for example, the rotating drum type is disclosed and includes structure defining a plurality of generally parallel extending slots for receiving cartridges in a horizontal attitude and arranged as a plurality of generally parallel, vertical columns of superposed cartridges lying in the slots. The structure also includes a sliding panel with a single cartridge-passing opening therein, which opening may be selectively aligned with any one of the cartridge columns. The cartridge-passing opening is then aligned with a magazine loading port and the cartridges transferred one at a time from the bottom of a column into the magazine. When a column is exhausted, the structure is shifted so as to align a different column with the aperture and loading port whereupon that column is transferred one at a time to the magazine.

  • Patent number: 4502245
Abstract: Means for controlling pivotal doors in nuclear plants, more specifically to control doors separating storage basins for nuclear materials. Instead of providing the control means on the wall structure of juxtaposed door openings, the control means are mounted on the door panels. They include a pair of fluid-operated cylinder-and-piston motors, the direction of operation of the pistons being parallel to an edge of the door panel. The cylinder-and-piston motors are preferably mounted on an edge of the door panel. Each motor operates a linkage that includes two rods, of which one is raised when the other is lowered. One of the two rods controls abutment means precluding the door from pivoting about one of its edges, and allowing the door to pivot only about the other of its edges.

  • Patent number: 4502248
Abstract: The specification discloses a vehicle window assembly including a slidable window glass supported by and guided along only one edge of the glass. More specifically, the assembly comprises a window glass, a molded guide bonded to one edge of the glass, and a pillar defining a channel in which the guide is slidingly received. The pillar and guide cooperate to permit the guide to move axially within the channel and to prevent the guide from passing transversely out of the channel so that the window glass must travel in a linear path. Also disclosed is a latch supported by the glass and extending through the guide. The latch includes an actuating portion located outside the pillar and a catch portion located and hidden within the pillar.
