  • Patent number: RE31845
Abstract: A relay valve for controlling fluid flow to and from a valve actuator included in a safety system for a flowline such as a production line of an oil or gas well. The relay includes a slide valve (60) which is manually pushed inwardly to the open or set position and held therein by pilot fluid which is also applied to the valve actuator. A visual indicator mounted on a knob (102) of the slide valve is operated by fluid applied to a passage (96) formed in the slide valve. A vent port (82) prevents pilot pressure from moving the slide valve from the closed position to the open position. A modified relay valve (150) has separate inlet ports (198 and 200) for receiving pilot fluid and actuator fluid and a vent port (206) which is in direct fluid communication with the pilot port in the closed position of the slide valve.

  • Patent number: RE31846
Abstract: A material and a process for use in making electrical contacts. The material is produced in powder form suitable for later processing into electrical contacts by standard metallurgical techniques generally involving compacting the powdered material to form a compact that preferably has a backing of metallic silver, sintering the compact to form the contact having a fine sintered silver backing and forming or cutting the contact to make it to the desired shape and size. The material, and in most general applications the contact made from the material, essentially consists of silver, approximately 15% cadmium oxide by weight, and lithium carbonate at a proportion of about 0.005 weight percent of lithium, which is approximately equal to 0.04 molecular percent of lithium carbonate.

  • Patent number: RE31847
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an apparatus and method for recording images on recording mediums which images correspond to high energy radiation patterns. A temporary storage medium, such as an infrared-stimulable phosphor or thermoluminescent material, is exposed to an incident pattern of high energy radiation. A time interval after exposure, a small area beam of long wave length radiation or heat scans the screen to release the stored energy as light. An appropriate sensor receives the light emitted by the screen and produces electrical energy in accordance with the light received. The information carried by the electrical energy is transformed into a recorded image by scanning an information storage medium with a light beam which is intensity modulated in accordance with the electrical energy. Although the invention can be used at any reproduction ratio, it is particularly usable in recording images representative of large format high energy patterns onto microfilm.

  • Patent number: RE31848
Abstract: A compact electronic assembly operable to control the energization of an electrical appliance is adapted for convenient mounting in an existing, standard electrical wall-switch box. A disconnectable electronic control means is mounted on the outside of the switch face plate and communicates with circuitry inside the wall-switch box by means of a plug-in connection through the aperture of the switch face plate. According to one aspect of the invention, a programmable electronic timer-switcher comprises a mounting plate which is secured to the opening of the wall switch box. A multiple-conductor receptacle is secured to the mounting plate, which also preferably serves as a heat sink for a switching means such as a triac. The receptacle is aligned behind the rectangular aperture of a standard switch face plate to permit plug-in connection to a programmable electronic timer disposed exteriorly of the face plate.

  • Patent number: 4503567
Abstract: A garment waistband that employs a longitudinally extensible elastic band which is laterally partially stiffened. A plurality of elastic threads extending in the longitudinal direction through the band are bound to stiffened lateral fibers, and the stiffened lateral fibers are loosely interconnected by supporting fibers. The extension of the elasic band is partially restrained by a fabric web attached to parts of the inner and outer surfaces of the elastic band. The looseness with which the supporting fibers connect the stiffened fibers allows one longitudinal portion of the waistband to be stretched without significantly affecting nearby parallel longitudinal portions. The fabric web partially restrains extension of the elastic band so that the garment to which it is attached does not pucker or significantly deform. The result is a waistband that conforms in a comfortable manner to body contours while providing stability and a neat, finished appearance to the garment in which it is employed.

The transfer line has plural stages of working stations disposed in front and rear relationship. Each of the working stations has at least one machine tool for working on one of the workpieces on that station. Each of the machine tools comprises a ganghead replaceable machine tool having plural gangheads arranged to be selectively operable. Each of the working stations has, at a preceding position thereof, a front sensor for reading the kind of workpiece on a preceding position so that, in the course of conveying any of the workpieces to each of the working stations, one of the gangheads that corresponds to the kind of workpiece read is previously selected for operation by a signal obtained at the front sensor.

Abstract: A method of forming a number of discrete solder layers on a semiconductor wafer of a large area. A number of regions which are easy to be wetted with solder are formed on one of the major surfaces of the wafer. A solder foil is positioned on the one major surface and a plate-like jig including a plate and projections formed on one surface thereof is disposed on the solder foil with the projections facing the latter. By heating the stacked assembly at a sufficiently high temperature for the solder foil to be molten, a number of the discrete solder layers having a uniform thickness are formed on the semiconductor wafer.

  • Patent number: 4503600
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a buried gate field effect transistor having a small effective gate length, which process enables precise control of the threshold voltage. First, a compound semiconductor crystal having a first impurity region as a source region, a second impurity region as a drain region and a channel layer buried inside the compound semiconductor crystal is prepared by a conventional process. A V-shaped groove is then formed with an etching solution having high selectivity toward the crystal face in the gate region of this compound semiconductor crystal. Onto the inner wall surface of the V-shaped groove, a metal likely to form an alloy type of Schottky junction with the compound semiconductor is vapor-deposited. The resultant structure is heated, while measuring the threshold voltage, to form an alloy type of Schottky junction and for use of this junction as a gate electrode.

  • Patent number: 4503601
Abstract: Disclosed is a manufacturing method of forming silicon gate, self-aligned MOS-type devices having submicron dimensions. After forming the gate from a highly doped polysilicon layer using a mask, the structure is subjected to a low temperature (700-750 degrees C.) thermal oxidation. Due to enhanced oxidation rate of doped silicon surfaces, a very thick oxide layer over the polysilicon gate sidewalls and a relatively thin oxide layer over the source-drain regions of the substrate are formed. The mask over the polysilicon and the oxide layer over the source-drain regions is removed and source-drain implantation is accomplished followed by selective deposition of metal (e.g. tungsten) over the source-drain regions and the polysilicon gate.In an alternative embodiment of this process, after forming the highly doped polysilicon gate using a mask, lightly doped source-drain regions which are self-aligned and in registry with the gate are formed by ion implantation.
