  • Patent number: 4517728
Abstract: A manufacturing method for an MIS type semiconductor device features in the preferred form a single masking operation used to define source, gate, and drain windows simultaneously in an upper insulating oxide layer disposed over a semiconducting polysilicon layer, the polysilicon layer being separated from the semiconductor substrate by a thin insulating oxide layer serving as the gate oxide. By subsequent deposition of an overall capping nitride layer, followed by selective removal of layers, using relatively low resolution photoresist and portions of the layers themselves as intermediate etching barriers, and by finally converting the polycrystalline layer to an oxide except where it is protected from oxidation by the presence of a nitride stripe over a gate window, the resulting gate electrode is precisely centered between the source and drain windows, and is sealed on all three sides by a protective oxide layer.

  • Patent number: 4517731
Abstract: A process is disclosed for fabricating complementary n and p channel insulated gate field effect transistors. The process uses two layers of polycrystalline silicon 32 and 44 to provide electrical interconnections, and allows the formation of microcapacitors between the two layers of polycrystalline silicon. In addition silicon dioxide and silicon nitride, and two layers of photoresist, are used as masks against heavy boron implantations. The reliability of ohmic connections between aluminum 50 and contact regions in the substrate is enhanced by providing additional dopant to the contact regions. In this way, the junction depth is increased and electrical defects caused by metal spiking are minimized.

  • Patent number: 4517737
Abstract: An apparatus for securing a connector to fabric is disclosed. The connectors are used connect the opposite ends of a fabric belt so as form an endless belt. The connectors are initially in the shape of a V, with legs of unequal lengths. Each leg has an inwardly projecting tip oriented at an accute angle to its respective leg. The connector is secured to the fabric by placing the fabric between the legs and bending them inwardly so that the tips penatrate into the flat woven fabric, thereby securing the connector to it. When the connector is secured to an end of the fabric belt, the apex of the V-shaped connector forms a rounded loop which may then be used to connect it to the opposite end of the fabric belt. The present invention has a pair of primary jaws which press against and actuate a pair of secondary jaws. The connector is secured between the secondary jaws which press against the connector and bend it into the fabric.

  • Patent number: 4517738
Abstract: A method for hermetically packaging electronic parts such as IC chips within a space defined by a multilayer substrate and a cap is disclosed. A welding rib is formed on the printed circuit board having conductor portions so as to surround those conductor portions over which the electronic parts are to be mounted in a later step. Metal films are formed by nonelectrolytic plating on the conductor portions. A peripheral portion of a cap is placed on the welding rib. A laser beam is radiated onto the contact portion between the peripheral portion and the welding rib so as to weld them together. At this time, a portion of the welding rib which is subject to laser radiation is not covered with the metal film. Welding is thus performed in the absence of phosphorus, which is inevitably contained in the metal film formed by nonelectrolytic plating and is a principal cause of cracking at a welded portion.

  • Patent number: 4517760
Abstract: An automatic rod and reel support carriage apparatus automatically rotates the reel crank to retrieve a line. The apparatus provides a weighted base frame upon which is securely fastened a motordrive. A rotating hub provides radially spaced recesses which engage the reel crank. A carriage is also supported by the base for holding the reel in a position which engages the reel crank with the hub. A pivotally movable trigger provides a ferrule at its end portion which loosely engages the line so that the line can pass through the ferrule. The trigger actuates the motor drive when the line is tensed such as when a fish pulls on the line. When such tension pulls the line, the trigger is deflected and closes a microswitch that actuates the motordrive. Absent tension on the line, the trigger deflects the line away from the axis of the rod and the trigger is disengaged from the microswitch.

  • Patent number: 4517766
Abstract: A holder 10 for a sash 11 running in a resin jamb liner 12 applies adjustable friction to a track 20 in the sash plow region of the sash run of the jamb liner. Track 20 has parallel edge guides 21 that are L-shaped in cross section to project from the sash run and extend toward each other. Holder 10 includes a carriage 25 that fits within the plow 19 of sash 11, and carriage 25 has a pair of runners 27 and 28 whose lateral edges are trapped under guides 21 to confine the runners to vertical movement along the track. Carriage 25 also has a friction shoe 35 variably pressed against the sash run surface of the track by an adjustment screw 15. Balance spring 13 pulls upward on carriage 25; and platform 26, connected to carriage 25 by adjustment screw 15, straddles plow 19 and supports the lower corner of sash 11. Screw 15 adjusts the friction of holder 10 within the sash run by the pressure it applies to friction shoe 35.

  • Patent number: 4517770
Abstract: In a gemstone blocking or polishing machine, a stone holder is supported in a gimbal so that it can pivot about two perpendicular axes, the holder also being capable of rotation about its own axis. The outer ring of the gimbal is in the form of a gear ring which can be indexed, and the holder passes through a slot in a grain ring which controls the orientation of the holder and can be locked to the gear ring by a clutch. In order to change the facet, the gear ring alone is indexed, forcing the holder to twist about its axis. In order to change the grain orientation, the gear ring and the grain ring are indexed synchronously. In order to signal when the facet has been worked to a sufficient depth, an electrical contact is made between the top end of the holder and a horizontal contact bar. The position of the holder is controlled by a spring.

  • Patent number: 4517771
Abstract: A workpiece handling machine having an annular barrel structure capable of vibration caused by a plurality of vibration suppliers equipped with unbalancing weights includes a sensor system which is sensitive to any difference between the reference rotational angular phase of one unbalancing weight and those of the other unbalancing weights, and a control system which is responsive to the detected signals of the sensor system for providing an analog or digital feedback control, which adjusts the phase difference to the target value. As such, not only is the synchronized phase of rotation permitted, but also the advance angle of the unbalancing weights with regard to each other can be chosen, depending upon the operational requirements such as the kind of the workpiece and abrasive media, the workpiece working conditions, the time period of the operation, and other parameters.
