  • Patent number: RE31957
Abstract: A pneumatic-hydraulic blind riveting tool comprises on the one hand a hydraulic working piston (25) in a hydraulic cylinder (27) cooperating with a chuck, and on the other hand a pneumatic power piston device (50) in an air cylinder (51) adapted to produce a working pressure in the hydraulic medium by means of a plunger (49). The working piston is adapted to be fed forwards in the hydraulic cylinder a number of steps during each working cycle, and means are provided to cause the power piston device to execute a corresponding number of stroke cycles, each of which includes a forward and return piston stroke. The working piston is adapted to be fed forward one step on each piston stroke. A valve (31) in a plunger passage (29) prevents hydraulic medium from retreating in the plunger passage during the return movement of the plunger. Instead, the plunger passage is filled with hydraulic medium from a reservoir (69) during the backward movement.

  • Patent number: 4531244
Abstract: A mammary prosthesis comprising an envelope of an inert elastomer for containing an inert fluid material. The envelope is composed of a plurality of firm protuberances distributed substantially equally thereover. These protuberances may be platelike, ridges, tubes, or posts. The protuberances may be in one or more layers and may be covered with an outer envelope of inert elastomer which may be perforated or in the form of a web. The protuberances provide therebetween flow spaces such that when the scar capsule contracts and compresses the protuberances, the mammary prosthesis will have a space for displacement and remain soft. The protuberances further provide greater localized pressure in pounds per square inch against the scar capsule for a given amount of massage exercise done after surgery. Since scar stretches in response to pressure, this reduces the amount of scar contracture of the capsule.

  • Patent number: 4531254
Abstract: A tool for removing paint from sheet metal gutters having a central ogee portion connected to two straight, vertical portions. The scraper includes a flat blade having an edge whose contour matches very closely the shape of the gutter. In particular, it approximates the exterior configuration of the gutter on a transverse cross-sectional view. The contour, however, has a slightly greater height than that displayed by the gutter; this allows the horizontal extensions of the blade to pass over the upper and lower edges of the gutter to effectuate contact with the gutter's vertical face. Cleaning the upper and lower horizontal surfaces of the gutter then merely requires shifting the blade downward to clean the former and upward for the latter. An extended handle on the blade allows its use by a workman located at some distance from the gutter. To further facilitate its use at a distance from the gutter, the handle may pivot relative to the blade.

  • Patent number: 4531266
Abstract: A burial vault includes a lid and a box portion. Depending rests are attached to the exterior bottom face of the box portion, so as to permit easy transportation of the vault. In another preferred embodiment the vault lid has recesses on its exterior face, which correspond to and are engageable with these rests. In still another preferred embodiment, these rests are self-burying in the ground in order to firmly seat the vault during use.

  • Patent number: 4531267
Abstract: A pressure sensor comprising a piezoelectric material formed in a geometry which provides a piezoelectric output signal when subjected to a pressure. The piezoelectric material also has a pyroelectric output signal. The present sensor further comprises conductive contacts having a geometry for enhancing the piezoelectric output signal and for substantially eliminating the pyroelectric output signal.

  • Patent number: 4531268
Abstract: A method of making capacitive structures whereby first and second webs are provided, each of which webs has a dielectric substrate, a metallic film coating and narrow parallel longitudinal metal-free zones. The webs are slit along parallel lines offset from the metal-free zones to form ribbons, each ribbon having a narrow marginal metal film band extending inwardly from one longitudinal edge of the ribbon to a metal-free zone. The ribbons from the two webs are wound alternately on a drum and, in winding, the ribbons of one web are offset from the ribbons of the other web to form on the drum a plurality of interleaved rings of capacitive structure, each structure having alternately disposed metal and dielectric layers and the ribbons of each web respectively projecting outwardly from the marginal film bands of the ribbons of the other web.

  • Patent number: 4531269
Abstract: An improved heat insulated piston assembly for an internal combustion engine and a method of assembly. The improved piston assembly includes a piston constructed of a sleeve having an interference fit about a heat insulated core. The core has a first end positioned flush with an end of the sleeve and has a second end located within the sleeve with a concave configured cavity formed therein. Mating in the concave configured cavity of the core is a connecting rod having a spherical ball shaped end. The spherical ball shaped end is securely held in the cavity by a retaining ring which attaches to the piston sleeve. The retaining ring allows for limited movement of the spherical ball shaped end of the connecting rod in the cavity while providing a means for returning the piston to its bottom position during the intake stroke.

  • Patent number: 4531270
Abstract: To make vane airfoils for an axial flow compressor metal strip is first contour rolled to a cross section comprised of two opposing airfoils separated by a center rib, where one of the faces of the strip is kept planar. The rib is used to guide the strip into dies where it is notched and slotted to define individual airfoils. Next, die stamping makes concave the planar surface of each airfoil.

  • Patent number: 4531271
Abstract: An apparatus and method for fixedly positioning a rotationally symmetrical constructional part having an irregular longitudinal peripheral wall consisting of a plurality of spirally wound juxtaposed tubes. The apparatus comprises a rotatable core having a peripheral surface corresponding to the inner contour of the peripheral wall for supporting the tubes with means for rotating the core about the axis of symmetry. Clamping devices are included for fixedly positioning the ends of the tubes on the core. A wire wrapping device is positioned alongside the core for applying a removable temporary wire wrapping of non-circular wire cross-section under tensile stress to the surface of the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4531272
Abstract: A method of making a replacement valve assembly, and the replacement valve assembly are provided in which an existing valve assembly is removed from the valve and used as a guide to make the replacement valve assembly. A threaded rod is cut to a length in accordance with the removed existing valve assembly and stock sleeve material having an internally threaded bore therethrough matching the external threads on the threaded rod is cut in accordance with the existing valve assembly to form a stem on the replacement valve. The valve assembly operating threads are cut from a piece of stock material having an internally threaded bore and a matching valve element is selected to match the one on the existing valve assembly. The externally threaded rod is coated with flux and a liquid solder or is cleaned and coated with a polymer adhesive and the cut and selected items assembled thereon to form the replacement valve assembly.
