Abstract: A highly discriminating technique utilizing Concanavalin A, immobilized on a solid substrate, e.g. sepharose 4B, for the fractionation of heparin is disclosed. The heparin to be fractionated is incubated with antithrombin whereby a fraction complete with the antithrombin and the whole is then either passed through a column of the immobilized Concanavalin A or slurried with same. In both modes that fraction of the heparin complexed with the antithrombin is selectively absorbed by the immobilized Concanavalin A and constitutes the anticoagulant active fraction. That heparin which complexes with the antithrombin can be further fractionated to yield yet more highly active fractions by complexing the heparin in stages, adding an increment of a molar amount of antithrombin in each stage.

  • Patent number: 4539428
Abstract: Diaminodiphenyl ethers (DADPE's) are prepared by refluxing sodium or potassium aminophenate with chloronitrobenzene in dimethylformamide. The reaction mixture is hydrogenated directly without isolating the resulting intermediate product, aminophenyl-nitrophenyl ether, to form the corresponding DADPE, e.g., oxydianiline (ODA). The DADPE is crystallized from the hydrogenated reaction mixture in the presence of an aliphatic alcohol, which may be added to the reaction mixture prior to, during, or after hydrogenation. The resulting crystallized DADPE is typically of high purity and excellent color.

  • Patent number: 4539430
Abstract: Method for the preparation of ethylenediamine dinitrate. Ethylenediamine dinitrate, a useful explosive, may readily be prepared by solvent extraction of nitrate ion from an acidic aqueous solution thereof using a high-molecular-weight, water-insoluble amine dissolved in an organic solvent, and reacting the resulting organic solution with ethylenediamine. The process of the instant invention avoids the use of concentrated nitric acid, as is currently practiced, resulting in a synthesis which is far less hazardous especially for large quantities of the explosive, and more efficient.

  • Patent number: 4539432
Abstract: A coolable electrical component having a housing (1) filled with insulating gas, and a conductor (2) of hollow cylindrical construction causing a high voltage, arranged in this housing (1). Through the interior space (7) of the conductor a coolant is circulated. The electrical component occupies a smaller space and yet allows increased current load capacity. This is achieved by providing a high-pressure tank (19) extending in the longitudinal direction of the conductor (2) in the interior space (7) thereof. The tank is connected to a gas liquefaction installation by means of outlet orifices (18) perforated in its wall at regular intervals thereof.Such a componet may preferably be a tubular gas cable or a component of a gas-insulated, metal-encapsulated switchgear.

  • Patent number: 4539433
Abstract: An electromagnetic shielding material for absorbing electromagnetic energy has been found. The shielding material is flexible and has a thin conductive core with a composite ferrite material deposited around the core. The composite ferrite material is a mixture of ferrite powder and a binder for binding the powder. The conductive core may be formed in the shape of a flat sheet or an elongated textile shape. The binder may be a high molecular compound like plastic. When the core is in a textile shape, the textile covered with the composite ferrite material is woven into a cloth which is sufficiently flexible to form around any desired shape.

  • Patent number: 4539437
Abstract: A stored program energy control system operates with the control of a telephone communications system to improve its energy efficiency by removing power from station sets and their associated visual indicators when they are inactive. Inactive station sets are identified by establishing minimal intervals of nonuse to define the inactive status. The energy control system responds to events like incoming calls and switchhook activity to restore power to the station set. Since energy is applied to a station set only when precisely needed, the overall energy drain of the system is greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 4539438
Abstract: A supervision filtering function is included in a line circuit wherein tip and ring voltage amplifiers supply energizing current to a two wire communication line via tip and ring primary windings of a transformer and tip and ring feed resistors. The tip and ring amplifiers operate in response to a control circuit which is differentially responsive to resistively coupled voltage signals corresponding to current flows in the tip and ring feed resistors, and which is also differentially responsive to a.c. signals from a secondary winding of the transformer being coupled via a resistive capacitive network to an amplifier in the control circuit. An output of the amplifier provides a supervisory signal. A feed switch is operable by a ring signal to conduct ringing currents to the communication line via the tip and ring feed resistors to the exclusion of the tip and ring primary windings.
