  • Patent number: RE31982
Abstract: Process for making a reconstitutable dehydrated, cooked potato piece or strip. Raw potatoes are cooked and a dough of separated potato cells is formed therefrom. A small quantity of the cells are ruptured to release their starch contents. The released starch alone or in combination with additional raw starch which is gelatinized after mixing with the dough are used to give the dough an adhesive character which will permit the eventually dried potato pieces to be reconstituted in water without loss of piece identity. After rupture of the potato cells the dough is maintained in a heated condition until formed into strips or pieces of the desired size after which they are dried. An alternative process employs raw starch as the principle means for obtaining the desired adhesive character in the dried potato pieces. In the alternative process the dough is processed and formed into the desired pieces or strips without heating and thereafter the raw starch is gelatinized by application of heat.

  • Patent number: 4539717
Abstract: This invention provides a submersible self-priming dispenser of measured doses of toilet tank additive in which the additives are solid products which will dissolve in water. It dispenses a measured amount of the water soluble additive each time the tank is emptied. In the present invention, when the tank is full, air locks form to separate both the top and bottom openings of the dispenser from the tank and prevent the water-dissolved additive in the dispenser from mixing with the water in the tank. Dual chambered embodiments are also presented so that, if more than one additive is used, they may be kept in separate solutions between flushes.

  • Patent number: 4539720
Abstract: A lightweight portable shower foldable into a backpack for campers or the like. A pliable water storage bag lies on a floor unit that also supports a vertical, sectioned, standpipe having a valved showerhead at the top. An annular curtain rod is held in a horizontal position by a hooking device at the top of the standpipe and supports a tubular shower curtain that is elastically connected to a rigid footpad atop the storage bag. In use, the weight of the user standing on the footpad provides water pressure to force water through the standpipe and showerhead. The elastic coupling to the footpad assures that the curtain will remain taut as water is forced from the storage bag.

  • Patent number: 4539729
Abstract: Fiber slivers must be condensed during the course of a spinning process or their mass must be determined. For this purpose there are employed so-called grooved pairs of rollers, that is to say, profiled rolls which define a sliver throughput groove which is limited or confined at both sides. The sliver is guided through a feed or delivery funnel up to the throughput groove. The danger thus exists that individual fibers can jam between the side surfaces or faces of the rollers which form the lateral boundaries of the groove. This danger is eliminated with the invention in that the fiber outlet opening of the feed funnel is located within the region of a wedge-shaped gap which is bounded by an overlapping zone of the side surfaces or faces of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4539742
Abstract: A semiconductor device wherein collector connecting wiring made of for example n.sup.+ -type polycrystalline silicon layer is formed by an anisotropic etching which simultaneously engrave a groove in a semiconductor substrate. A collector layer is formed on a non-etched projection, while base contact hole is formed in the lower portion of the groove. Therefore, the base contact hole is not contacted with collector layer, thus preventing the flow of a leakage current and short-circuiting therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4539744
Abstract: A silicon substrate having a silicon dioxide bird's head is provided. A thermal oxide layer is grown on the exposed silicon surface. A layer, e.g., 4000 A.degree., of phosphogermanosilicate glass is deposited on the thermal oxide and on the silicon dioxide bird's head. The structure is heated to 950.degree. C., causing a reflow of the glass which results in a planar surface. The thermal oxide and the phosphogermanosilicate glass are then wet etched at the same rate with a solution of hydrofluoric acid, ammonium fluoride, and deionized water. The wet etch is terminated when the exposed silicon surface is reached, resulting in a smooth surface as defined by the planar reflow surface. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4539745
Abstract: An electric motor having a stationary shaft carrying two spaced-apart bearings rotatably supporting a rotor. The shaft has an axial bore communicating with a radial slot in the shaft. An elongated locking member extends from the bore, through the slot, and into operative engagement with one of the bearings. A plug within the bore holds the locking member in place. A collar surrounds the shaft in the region of the slot, the locking member fixing one end of the collar against said one of the bearings. A compression spring surrounding the shaft presses against both the collar and the other of the bearings. The bore merges with the slot along an inclined surface which guides one end of the elongated locking member through the slot as the locking member is advanced along the bore during assembly.

  • Patent number: 4539747
Abstract: A process is suggested for making electrical contacts between the two surfaces (11,12) of a printed circuit board (10), whereby by means of an electrically conductive printed coating conductive ribs (15) are made. The ribs (15) embrace the edge of the printed circuit board (10), thus eliminating the making of apertures in the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4539748
Abstract: An electrical connector which is capable of being used to interconnect insulated conductors in the field or in a factory during in-line processing includes a frame and contact element. The contact element which is used to establish an electrical connection between the conductors includes a center portion and two opposed bifurcated beams. A portion of each beam is upstanding from the plane of the contact element. Furcations of each beam define a slot for receiving one of the conductors to be interconnected. The contact element is attached to the frame which includes at least one deformable tang at each end. End portions of conductors to be connected are each positioned across an end of the frame. The tangs are wrapped about the conductors, the conductors are moved into the slots of the beams, and excess portions of the lengths severed.
