  • Patent number: 4557087
Abstract: A metallic sheath for a posttensioning method wherein an outer peripheral surface or outer and inner peripheral surfaces thereof is (or are) coated with phosphate layer (or layers) and plastic resin layer (or layers) thereupon and preferably further coated with a solid lubricating layer upon the inner peripheral surface of the sheath. The phosphate layer of the outer peripheral surface protect the metallic sheath from corrosion by negative ion within concrete, while, on the other hand, that of the inner peripheral surface prevents the electrochemical corrosion between the inner peripheral surface of the sheath and tendon. Moreover, if a solid lubricating, layer is provided at the inner peripheral surface of the sheath, the sliding friction between the metallic sheath and tendon can be decreased so that prestressed force can be increased as much.

  • Patent number: 4557088
Abstract: In a parapet portion of a curtain wall, indoor side and outdoor side members of each panel unit mounted at the top of the curtain wall are connected via a connector made of heat-insulating material, and a damp-proofing sheet is mounted so as to extend between the indoor side member and a building body to form a heat-insulating damp-proofing layer, whereby the disadvantages that heat received by a coping from the external atmosphere would be transmitted to the indoor side of the curtain wall, resulting in deterioration of the heat-insulating property of the curtain wall, and that damp enclosed between the curtain wall and the building body would dew the inner surface of the coping, can be improved.

  • Patent number: 4557089
Abstract: The invention concerns the provision of structural elements for building facades and the like, which are provided for fire protection according, for example, to German Industrial Standard requirements. Accordingly, measures should be provided for self-supporting fire protection elements which prevent the spreading of fire, for example, from floor to floor, regardless of whether the fire comes from the outside or the inside. This object is achieved in that the composite connecting body (4) consists of at least one statically loadable bearing body having an aluminum core (18) which is completely or partially surrounded by fire suppressant material (9). This fire suppressant material (9) can be provided with or without a covering (10).

  • Patent number: 4557093
Abstract: An insulating building block made up of an insulating core and two concrete walls, each cast over one side of the core. The latter comprises a body having opposed parallel flat outer faces, bound by parallel longitudinal edges and parallel side edges, and having a transverse plane normal to the outer faces centrally between the longitudinal edges. Locking protrusions are formed integrally with the body and project from the outer faces. Each protrusion extends from either side of the transverse plane toward the longitudinal edges and terminates short of the longitudinal edges. The protrusions have outer surfaces and lateral edges tapering inwardly between the outer surfaces and the body outer faces. The protrusion side edges further make angles with the transverse plane suitable to facilitate demolding of the core when the core is molded in two half molds having a closure plane co-planar with the transverse plane, aforesaid.

  • Patent number: 4557097
Abstract: The invention relates to a tetrahedral beam that can be compactly stowed, sequentially deployed, and widely manipulated to provide a structurally sound yet highly maneuverable truss structure. The present beam is comprised of a plurality of repeating units comprised of tandem tetrahedra sharing common sides. Tetrahedra are comprised of fixed length battens 12 joined by joint 14 into equilateral triangles called batten frames. Apexes of adjacent triangles are interconnected by longerons 16 having mid-point folding hinges 20. Joints 14 are comprised of gussets 24,34 pivotably connected by links 25. Joints 14 permit two independent degrees of rotational freedom between joined adjacent batten frames, and provide a stable structure throughout all stages of beam deployment, from packaged configuration to complete deployment. The longerons and joints can be actuated in any sequence, independently of one another. The present beam is well suited to remote actuation.

  • Patent number: 4557120
Abstract: A process and apparatus for washing fibre stock. The fibre stock is passed along a passage 14 from a stock inlet 15 to a stock outlet 16. The passage is defined by a portion of the inner surface of a substantially horizontal cylindrical screen 4, preferably a wire gauze. Washing liquid such as water is introduced into the passage, preferably by means of apertures 9 in a longitudinally extending hollow member 8. Effluent liquid passes through the screen, for extraction e.g. through outlets 24 and 25. To enable the washing of stock of high consistency e.g. up to 8%, while avoiding plugging of the screen 4, the arrangement is such that the stock only partially fills the cylindrical screen and is subjected to a tumbling action by the rotary movement of the cylindrical screen as the stock moves along the passage 14 to the stock outlet 16. The hollow member 8 is displaced downwardly from the axis of the cylindrical screen, so as to be positioned within the tumbling stock.

  • Patent number: 4557123
Abstract: A slide action key shield to hide and protect a key's tumbler cuts and then, on demand, retract to fully expose the tumbler cuts when opening a lock is disclosed. A double capped pin is fixed through the key near the midpoint along the key's length such that each capped end protrudes through a respective longitudinal face slot on the shield to allow the shield to movably cover one half of the shaft of the key or the other. The shield resembles a longitudinally extended sheath open at both ends which conforms to the shape of the key. One end of the shield is flat so that the shield may be easily pushed back by the lock face while the other end is rounded and given side openings to fully retract over the key head without any sharp edges protruding. If the key head is held by a key ring, the retracted shield will be returned by the force of gravity to cover the tumbler cuts when the key is left to hang after use.

  • Patent number: 4557124
Abstract: This invention consists of a small motor powered by dry cell batteries, which may be varied in number to provide the torque or turning power required to open a lock. A drive plate of friction material is attached to the motor shaft, and when the turner with a key in place is inserted into a lock, the drive plate will contact a similar plate that is fastened to the key-retention head. Such contact will cause the head to rotate and produce the required force needed to open the lock. Should a stubborn lock be encountered, the drive plates will slip and prevent a possible broken key. This arrangement also allows "jogging" of the key rotation which may be helpful in loosening a resistant lock. Another feature of this device is the capability of varying the power needed simply by changing the number of batteries and the body segments that enclose them.

  • Patent number: 4557125
Abstract: An improved apparatus for on-line inspection of an intermediate-stage, headed, non-threaded blank for a threaded fastener is disclosed. If the blank fails to meet specifications, the production of blanks is terminated. Improvement features include a roll-sorter for testing all blanks to see if certain dimensional parameters of the blank's head are satisfied. Then, random chosen acceptable blanks are fed to a rotatable table which is constructed to receive a sample blank for movement of the blank to a test station where the blank is tested for other failures to meet dimensional specifications. The rotatable table is constructed to provide interchangeable elements thereof that will accept blanks of different head and stem sizes. Multiple adjustability is provided in the means for transferring blanks, that are first acceptable to the roll-sorter test, on to the rotatable table for further testing.

Abstract: A tube bulger for producing an enlarged ring-like bulge in the material around an end portion of a metal tube includes upper and lower die sections. When the upper and lower die sections are mated together, a cylindrical hole is formed. The end portion of the tube to be bulged extends into the hole. A ring-like, outwardly oriented enlargement of the cylindrical hole in the mated die sections forms a bulge cavity into which the bulge moves as it is being formed. An elongated mandrel extends through the opposite end of the cylindrical hole and into the open end of the tube. First and second sealing rings disposed about the mandrel on opposite sides of the bulge cavity prevent leakage of pressurized oil between the die and the mandrel. An oil conducting channel has an opening between the sealing rings.
