  • Patent number: 4607489
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for producing a cold gas at a desired temperature, by bubbling the gas to be cooled through a bath of cryogenic liquid. The gas to be cooled need not be the same substance as that in the bath. The gas is preferably introduced at or near the bottom of the bath, and the bubbles give up heat to the bath as they rise. The gas is introduced into the bath through a flow distributor, producing a large quantity of very small bubbles, in order to maximize the rate of heat exchange. Cold gas is extracted from the region above the liquid bath. The higher the level of the bath, the greater the time available for heat exchange between the gas and the bath. Controlling the depth of the bath therefore controls the temperature of the cold gas leaving the apparatus. The depth of the bath is primarily controlled by adjusting the rate of flow of cryogenic liquid into the bath.

  • Patent number: 4607501
Abstract: Vapors of chemicals or minerals in solution, and/or volatile liquids, emanating from a land surface (such as a sanitary landfill) are collected. A first generally cylindrical container encloses the volume of air above an area of land surface, and includes a top surface having an inverted cone shape with a downwardmost point formed by the cone apex. A second generally cylindrical container interfits with the top, inverted cone, first container. The second container is adapted to contain ice, or a like cooling solid or liquid. The second and first containers are of good heat conducting material so that the second container cools the top of the first container. Abstract: A device for cooling containers, for instance beverage bottles or beverage cans, arranged in a wrapping comprises a cooling-medium receptacle inserted or insertable within the wrapping, between the containers to be cooled, said receptacle being brought in surface contact with certain areas of the peripheral surface of the containers, due to a predetermined or bag-like shape. The components of a cooling mix have to be placed in the cooling-medium receptacle. The cooling-medium receptacle meant for one-time use and already containing the stable components, for instance the solid components, of the cooling mix is preferred. The cooling-medium receptacle prepared as mentioned can be placed in advance in a commercial package for filled containers, for instance beverage bottles or beverage cans. Before the use of the containers respectively the consumption of the beverages, it is required to add the reactive components after opening the package and then to reclose the cooling-medium receptacle.

Abstract: A compressor and suction accumulator assembly wherein the suction accumulator is mounted on the casing of the compressor. The accumulator includes a cylindrical casing having two end walls. A first end wall includes an inlet aperture and the second end wall includes an outlet aperture. The second end wall is circular and substantially flat and has a thickness greater than the casing of the accumulator. The outlet aperture in the circular second end wall is spaced radially outwardly from the center of the second end wall near the periphery thereof and is spaced further outwardly from the compressor casing than the center of the circular end wall. A suction tube extends through the outlet aperture into the accumulator casing and is bent inwardly toward the center of the accumulator casing whereby the inlet opening of the suction tube is disposed coaxially with the cylindrical casing of the accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4607504
Abstract: A needle dial for single-cylinder circular hosiery knitting machines for producing ribbed knitting includes a disc having a plurality of radially extending angularly equidistantly spaced dividing walls. Each adjacent pair of dividing walls sets-off therebetween a radially extending groove, and each groove is defined by a bottom wall of the disc and one wall each of adjacent pairs of the dividing walls. The one walls have upper wall portions in generally spaced parallel relationship to each other and to a longitudinal axis of the groove defined thereby. A lower radially outermost wall portion of one of each of the one walls defining each groove is circumferentially off-set from a radially innermost wall portion thereof and from its associated longitudinal axis thereby being adapted to receive therein a distal arch of an associated composite needle.

  • Patent number: 4607509
Abstract: When both colored and white wash are to be laundered together, one has the problem that pigment particles are transported from the colored pieces to the white pieces and the white pieces are discolored. This problem will be eliminated in a novel counterflow cycling washing machine by providing additional components besides the control components for the counterflow which produce a reversal of the usual counterflow to concurrent flow when a colored piece of wash is in the machine or the washing zone. For the case of concurrent flow operation the counterflow pump is shut off and the counterflow discharge outlet valve and the counterflow input tube valve are closed, while the valve in the concurrent flow discharge outlet positioned near the counterflow input tube and the valve in the concurrent flow input tube positioned near the counterflow discharge outlet are opened.

  • Patent number: 4607510
Abstract: A lock mechanism for a closure member, such as a sliding door. The mechanism comprises a housing for securement to the sliding door. A locking slide member is slidingly guided in the housing. The slide member has a locking element to engage and disengage with a keeper member secured to the frame of a door opening adjacent the sliding door. A slide activating rotating knob is rotatably retained in the housing for limited rotating displacement therein. A slide displacing pin is secured to the rotating knob and offset from the central rotating axis of the knob. The slide member has a pin receiving slot which coacts with the pin whereby limited rotation of the knob causes displacement of the pin to frictionally engage the slide in the slot to cause limited sliding displacement of the slide between a locked and unlocked position. The pin and the slide also coact, when in the locked position, whereby to provide positive interlocking to prevent displacement of the slide by force applied thereto.

  • Patent number: 4607511
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the gauge of a product, such as for example a rod or bar, as the product is passing from an upstream roll stand to a finishing block. The product is rolled under tension between successive sizing stands arranged between the upstream roll stand and the finishing block. Variable loops are introduced in the product between the upstream stand and the first sizing stand as well as between the second sizing stand and the finishing block. Cross sectional dimensional measurements are taken of the product emerging from the second sizing stand, and signals representative of such measurements are employed by a controller to vary the product tension between the sizing stands in order to correct off gauge conditions in the product emerging from the second sizing stand.
