  • Patent number: 4615070
Abstract: This invention is concerned with a sweeper, meaning a sweeper with a rotary main brush opposite a hopper, and increasing its ability to load light debris, such as paper, dry leaves and the like so that light debris will be propelled farther into the debris hopper. This is done by setting the speed of the main brush at a lower speed for normal operation to effectively throw what may be thought of as heavier material, such as sand, forwardly into the hopper with the speed being such that excessive wear of the brush is avoided and a higher speed of rotation being effected from time to time so that paper, dry leaves and the like, which may be considered lightweight material, are thrown farther into the hopper with the increased speed of the main brush overcoming the air resistance that normally stops such lightweight material which, at normal operation of the brush, tends to pile up in the rear of the hopper.

  • Patent number: 4615080
Abstract: A randomizing web former is provided for producing webs with greater degrees of isotropy than heretofore by including both a carding element, such as a worker roll or a carding segment, and an aerodynamic, centrifugal randomizing web former, employing a jamming action and then free flight of the web to randomize, both on the same toothed cylinder. Usually, the fibrous flock is worked into an array of axially parallel fibers by an assemblage of sequentially arranged carding cylinders and cooperating carding elements such as carding worker rolls and or stationary carding segments similar to flats but of complementary arcuity to the cylinders. Thereupon the web is moved to a toothed roll having both a carding element and a web former either in that sequence or combined so as to act sequentially or concurrently. The resultant randomized web is then doffed.

  • Patent number: 4615084
Abstract: Multiple hook-fastener media in which many protruding hooks are formed at relatively high speed from suitable bendable and settable plastic material which may be different from the substrate to which these pre-formed hooks are subsequently bonded. Many rows of hooks are formed simultaneously, each row from a strand, for example, a monofilament of longitudinally oriented polymeric material. The formed strands are "set" into their multiple hook row configuration, and then these pre-formed rows of hooks are simultaneously bonded to the substrate. Thus, an attractive substrate of any reasonable width, for example, of three inches, six inches, a foot or a yard, may be used. The production method and system enable the number of hooks per square inch, either longitudinally or laterally or both, to be adjusted while running.

  • Patent number: 4615100
Abstract: An improvement is provided in a crimping process of the type wherein linear sections of a specified length are cut off from a roll of insulated wire and the opposite ends are insulation-stripped and crimped, and wherein the insulated wire is periodically advanced along a path of travel by a distance corresponding to the length of the wire sections. The stripped ends of the insulated wire and wire section are rotated from the path of travel and inserted in a crimping for crimping thereof and thereafter these ends, after crimping, are rotated back into the path of travel, with the crimped wire section then being removed from the path and the crimped insulated wire being conveyed further along the path. The invention, the provision in parallel with the insulated wire of a second insulated wire which is processed and crimped in the same way as the first wire for crimping.

  • Patent number: 4615101
Abstract: A tool interface has a rotatable tool changer for holding a tool on the end of a robot arm. The tool changer is a socket chuck having spring jaws in a socket for clamping the tool. A spring actuated sleeve slides longitudinally into wedging engagement with an inclined surface on the jaws. Fluid pressure moves an annular piston against the spring to disengage the sleeve from the jaws, and thus release the tool. A motor couples through a harmonic wave generator to a shaft on the axis of the tool changer for rotating a tool. An angular position sensor and encoder, such as an inductosyn, is used to determine the orientation of the tool. Fluid and electrical supply lines from the robot arm are connected to the tool changer for supplying electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum connections to the tool.

  • Patent number: 4615102
Abstract: A semiconductor device, which comprises an E-mode FET and a D-mode FET and utilizes a two-dimensional electron gas, comprises a semi-insulating semiconductor substrate, a channel layer, an electron-supply layer, a third layer, a first etching-stoppable layer, a fifth layer, and a second etching-stoppable layer, which layers are formed in sequence on the substrate. An etching process for forming grooves of gate electrodes of the FETs comprises a first etching treatment removing the first etching-stoppable layer portion in the E-mode FET region and the second etching-stoppable layer portion in the D-mode FET region, and a second etching treatment removing the third layer portion in the E-mode FET region and the fifth layer portion and using an etchant different from that used in the first etching treatment. In the second etching treatment, reactive ion etching method using a CCl.sub.2 F.sub.
