  • Patent number: 4633559
Abstract: A method and apparatus for staking a formable projection, for example, a tab or boss, to retain plural articles in a unitary assembly. A projection on a first article is brought into registering position with an aperture in a second article to form the assembly. The assembly is clamped by a spring-loaded clamp pad which bears against the second article and surrounds the projection. The projection is then staked by action of a tool which travels reciprocally within the clamp pad and has a tip which cooperates with the clamp pad to form a cavity of desired shape. The forming stroke of the tool is against the resistive force of the spring, which increases the clamping force of the clamp pad. The formed projection is therefore contained within the inner boundary of the clamp pad and tool tip to thereby promote uniform head formation.

  • Patent number: 4633564
Abstract: A stabilizing mechanism and a method of mounting the stabilizing mechanism are provided. The stabilizing mechanism is supported on modified overload stops which are mounted onto the truck frame through mounting holes drilled by the truck's manufacture and intended as mountings for conventional overload stops; in addition, linkages fixedly coupled to the longitudinal ends of the torsion bar directly couple each end of the torsion bar to one of the leaf springs of the truck frame. Differential compression of the leaf springs twists the torsion bar which produces a reactive torque at the longitudinal ends of the torsion bar. In response to this reactive torque, the linkages fixedly coupled to the torsion bar transfer the torque to a linear force which opposes the differential compression of the leaf springs.

  • Patent number: 4633566
Abstract: Apparatus and method for constructing and disassembling a triangular prism-form truss structure in spaced are disclosed. The apparatus includes a triangular prism-form construction fixture and three feed units disposed about the fixture for feeding the triangular frame elements that form the basic unit of the structure, or for removing the elements from the structure. The construction method, essentially automatic, comprises feeding frame elements to the fixture from the feed units in sequence. Fixture forward and backward movement along the fixture longitudinal axis, before and after element feeding, effects fastening of the frame elements to one another. Shifting of completed truss structure sections relative to the fixture is accomplished by periodic axial movement of the fixture. The disassembly method essentially comprises the reverse sequence of the steps of the construction method.

  • Patent number: 4633571
Abstract: A new technique for forming CMOS custom logic circuits is disclosed wherein standard cells (10,12,14) are used and the prior art technique of field oxide isolation (16) is replaced with transistor isolation (68-71). That is, the boundaries (18,20,22,24) between the cells are formed by transistors that are permanently "off", i.e., tied to the positive or negative voltage supply, depending on whether the transistors are p-channel or n-channel devices, respectively. Therefore, instead of having to deposit separate p+ and n+ source/drain diffusions for each cell, as in the prior art, a single p+ diffusion strip (60) and a single n+ diffusion strip (62) are utilized, where the polysilicon mask of both the logic and isolation transistors defines the cell sizes. Thus, the p+ and n+ diffusions become generic steps which do not vary from circuit to circuit, decreasing the turnaround time associated with custom logic circuit layout and design.

  • Patent number: 4633574
Abstract: A slot closure arrangement for closing the slot opening of slots in the stator of a dynamoelectric machine and for providing a restraining force against conductors in the slot. The slots have opposing notches on opposite sides of the slot adjacent the slot opening. A flat rectangular spring member is placed in the slot opening with the opposite edges of the flat spring member each terminating in one of the opposing notches. A pair of wedges with complementary tapered surfaces is inserted between the spring member and the surface of the conductor in the slot adjacent and facing the slot opening. The wedges are advanced one over the other to increase the overall thickness. The surface of the wedge engaging the spring member has a thickness at the center greater than the thickness at the edges, and the center presses the spring member outwardly when the wedges are advanced, deforming the spring member which then provides a force through the wedges against the conductor in the slot.
