Abstract: A two-sided grab bucket comprises a U-shaped scoop carrier and two scoops, which are provided with crosspieces, which are welded to the inside surfaces of the upper edge portions of the side walls of the scoops and are provided to the legs of the scoop carrier and two spaced apart parallel axes, actuating levers, which are welded to the crosspieces, and a transversely extending hydraulic piston-cylinder unit, which is pivoted to and connects the free ends of said levers. The crosspieces are constituted by shafts, which are provided with annular bearing surfaces on opposite sides of the longitudinal center line of the two-sided grab bucket, said annular bearing surfaces are rotatably mounted in split bearings, the legs of the scoop carrier are provided on both sides with the inner bearing shells of the split bearings, and the outer bearing shells are screw-connected to the inner bearing shells.

Abstract: A method for displaying the availability of videocassette films for rental including the following steps: producing indicating cards having indicia printed thereon identifying the films available for rental; positioning indicating cards for various videocassette films at different locations on a display board; positioning a plurality of indicating cards for identical videocassette films at the same location; selectively removing the reproductions individually from the display board as the videocassette corresponding thereto is rented; and selectively repositioning the reproductions as the videocassette corresponding thereto is returned.

Abstract: A pin screen has at least one and preferably two vertically aligned spaced plates having a plurality of closely spaced, small apertures each of which is adapted to receive a pin held in selected positions by frictional engagement in a horizontal pin orientation. A transparent sheet of material is vertically spaced a predetermined distance in front of said vertical plate or plates. The pins are longer than the separation between the plate or plates and the transparent sheet. The size of the pin head prevents the pins from passing through the apertured plates and the transparent cover prevents them from falling out of the apertures. A contoured three-dimensional image is created by the selective horizontal displacement of pins relative to the vertical apertured plate, and the displaced pins remain in their three-dimensional, image-creating position held there by friction until intentionally displaced to a different position.

Abstract: The sign envelope (12) is formed by parallel side panels (14 and 15), with openings (24 and 25) formed in each side panel. The openings are positioned at opposite ends of the envelope, and messages (28, 29) opposite in meaning are displayed by each side panel (14, 15) through the opening (24, 25) of the other panel. Sign plate (26) bears messages (30, 31) opposite in meaning on its opposite surfaces. Sign plate (26) is slidable through the envelope to register with one or the other of the openings (24, 25) of the envelope to display one of its messages which is compatible with the uncovered message at the opposite end of the envelope.

Abstract: A toy hanger for visually displaying toys, dolls or the like within a child's room comprises a hanging strap suspendable from a support structure within the room. A plurality of fastening strips attached at spaced intervals along the length of the hanging strap each includes opposite ends carrying hook and loop fastening material adhesively engageable with each other to establish a support loop adjustable in diameter for receiving and supporting a toy or doll on the hanging strap. Male and female hook and loop elements secured to an upper end of the strap are engageable with each other to releasably secure the hanger to a crib, curtain rod and the like. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the hanging strap includes first and second sections having hook and loop elements at one end of each strap, respectively, for attachment together to form a single strap.

Abstract: There is disclosed a safety device for preventing unauthorized use of an automatic or semi-automatic hand-held fire-arm, such as a shotgun, rifle or revolver, and of the type in which the loading chamber is provided with a lateral opening. The safety device comprises a metallic U-shape frame adapted to surround the underside and lateral sides of the loading chamber. A key-operated lock causes a frame-carried stop member to enter the loading chamber through the lateral opening to secure the device to the gun and to block access to both the magazine and the breech or firing chamber of the fire-arm to prevent magazine loading and passage of bullets or cartridges from the magazine to the breech. The frame also prevents operation of the loading mechanism.

Abstract: A firearm stock assembly having two substantially hollow stock shells enclosing the sides of the firearm assembly. The stock shells separate along parting lines on the top and bottom, for removal from the firearm. The forward ends of the stock shells engage studs on the firearm to retain the stock shells in place. The back end of each stock shell is removably secured to the buttplate of the firearm.

Abstract: A fishing rod unit for use particularly in areas of thick vegetation. The specific device is an attachment for fishing rods and, in particular, a fishing rod combination wherein the fishing line passes along the central axis of hollow components. The attachment is a hollow elongated body having an internal diameter sufficient to accept a conventional float carried by the fishing line. The length of this body is sufficient to encase the float, a weight and the bait. Tension on the fishing line causes the float, when within the body of the attachment, to compress a coiled spring within the base thereof. The extreme end of the body carries an enlarged portion that assists a fisherman in the passing of the rod through thick vegetation. Since there is no portion of the line, or the attachments thereto, exposed to the vegetation, entanglement with the vegetation is prevented.

Abstract: A fishing lure includes a first body segment having front and rear ends and a center of buoyancy, a second body segment having front and rear ends and a center of buoyancy, and an articulated hinge joining the rear of the first segment to the front end of said second segment at a point below their respective center of buoyancies. Additionally, at least one fish hook is attached to at least one body segment. The lure also includes front and rear retarding surfaces having a known size relationship to one another, and a flexible tail portion, constructed to simulate the tail of an aquatic life form. The entire lure may be formed of a molded portion surrounding a mesh portion, to provide a strong, resilient lure, and having a fish hook threaded through the molded and mesh portions. A line attachment eye is provided to secure the lure to a fishing line. The eye may be positioned below the center of buoyancy.

Abstract: A fishing rod having a handle including a pistol grip located rearwardly from and beneath a reel seat for holding a casting reel, and having a butt extension member supported rearwardly and spaced upwardly apart from the reel seat. A butt extension support limb is curved rearwardly and laterally away from the reel seat to support the forward end of the butt extension member without interfering with the fisherman's wrist and forearm during casting of bait or playing a hooked fish using the rod.

Abstract: A crab trap is provided and consists of four grid covered panels hinged together forming a parallelepiped collapsible frame, two grid covered doors which are bottom hinged to the frame and two narrow grid covered locking flaps which are hinged to top panel between the side panels of the frame for stabilizing the frame when the frame is open.

Abstract: A flea attractant is located within the hollow interior of a housing assembly having an entrance opening thereinto covered by open mesh screen which allows fleas to freely pass therethrough while preventing anything substantially larger than a normal flea from passing into the interior of the housing assembly. A flea trapping medium such as a sticky substance is also located within the interior of the housing member to trap fleas that come in contact therewith.

Abstract: A cutting device particularly for use in grafting operations involving vines, plants and trees, having lever means (10,11) pivoted at (12) and coupled to a blade mount, the blades (22) of which co-operating with an anvil (25). A guide means (29) locates the vine, rootstock or the like over anvil (25). Movement of levers (10,11) toward each other causes blades (22) to pass downwardly and thus cut, with a shearing action, the vine, rootstock or the like, to form, in the example shown, a V-shaped notch, the other cut out portion of the vine having a V-shaped end. A suitable graft which has been previously cut out with the device is placed in the notch and bound in a conventional manner.

Abstract: A one-piece fastener is disclosed for loosely retaining a transversely extending branch with respect to a horizontal support wire. The fastener is molded of resilient plastic material in form of a flexible filament portion with a clip portion integrally formed at its opposite ends. Each of the clip portions have a generally tubular body with a cylindrical-shaped throughbore formed longitudinally and with an elongate slot formed lengthwise of the tubular body in direct communication with the throughbore to define a throat for receiving the support wire into the throughbore. Each end of the filament portion is connected to one of the tubular bodies at a point adjacent to its elongate slot and adjacent to one of its ends which provides an offset relationship between the flexible filament portion and the two tubular bodies.

Abstract: A process for treating trees and bushes having a xylem structure through which sap passes so as to provide trace elements or micro-nutrients selected from calcium, zinc, magnesium, iron, manganese, copper, molybdenum, nickel and boron to the tree or bush, comprising inserting into the xylem structure a solid glass article comprising a phosphate base glass containing the trace elements or micro-nutrients in oxide form, the formulation of the phosphate base glass being selected so that the solubility of the phosphate glass in the sap of the tree or shrub being treated is sufficient to provide a transfer of the said trace elements or micro-nutrients from the glass into the sap by dissolution of the glass.

Abstract: To prevent breakage, an end section that can be positioned across a roadway is connected through a slanting pivot to a supporting section, the raised and lowered positions of the supporting section being under control of a usual standard. The pintle of a hinge for the pivot lies along slanting abutting ends of the supporting section and the end section such that the end section while the sections are horizontal is maintained in position by gravity. An L-shaped latching device has a weight at one end, an intermediate pivot, and a latch at the other end to latch the sections together by gravity while the sections are raised from a horizontal position, the latch retaining said end section upright while the supporting section is fully raised.

Abstract: A shutter or blind assembly comprises a plurality of verically-spaced, horizontally-extending slats rotatably mounted between a pair of opposed vertical side rails. Each of the side rails has a plurality of vertically-spaced, horizontal grooves extending rearwardly from the forward edge thereof, and each of the grooves has a downwardly-extending notch formed contiguously therewith. Each slat has a dowel at each end, and the dowels on each slat are removably received in an opposed pair of grooves so as to be rotatably seated in an opposed pair of notches. A vertical tilt bar interconnects most or all of the slats. The tilt bar comprises an inner member which is removably retained in an outer member. The inner member removably receives a vertically-spaced plurality of hooks or eyelets that are attached to the slats. Each slat is individually removable from the assembly by separating the inner and outer tilt bar members, allowing the hooks or eyelets to be removed from the inner member.

Abstract: One element of the hatchway panel is hinged to the hatch coaming through a link and is connected to the piston rod of a hydraulic actuator of which the cylinder foot portion comprises a transverse pin adapted to slide within an elongate hole provided in a fixed support. On this fixed support is pivoted a locking hook adapted to co-act with a lateral stop of the panel for locking the panel in its closed position. When the hydraulic actuator is actuated for opening the panel, the foot portion of the actuator cylinder first engages a heel portion of the locking hook and causes this hook to pivot for automatically unlocking the panel.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for dry lens generation of a plastic optical lens includes a chamber structure in which the lens grinding tool and the lens blank holder are positioned. The chamber is provided with a large unobstructed inlet and an outlet connected in communicating relation to a vacuum system so that the high volume, high velocity stream of ambient air is directed across the interface between the grinding tool and the lens blank to thereby entrain the cut plastic material in the stream for evacuation through the outlet. The grinding tool is diamond plated and the spacing between the diamond elements is of a sufficient magnitude to permit single point cutting of the material to thereby eliminate any tendency of the material to adhere to the grinding tool. A misting nozzle discharges a fine lubricating mist across the lens blank grinding tool interface when a lens is being formed from polycarbonate.

Abstract: An arbor is threaded in a first direction. An adaptor bushing is disposed on the arbor and is externally threaded in a second direction opposite to the first direction. A reinforcing plate is rotatable on the adaptor bushing in the second direction. A detent arrangement may be provided on the adapter bushing and the reinforcing plate to limit the movement of the reinforcing plate relative to the adaptor bushing. An abrasive wheel or disc is provided with first and second opposite surfaces and abrasive particles are disposed throughout the disc. A nut is disposed in a bore in the disc and is threaded for rotation on the arbor in the first direction. When the disc engages the reinforcing plate, continued rotation of the disc in the first direction causes the reinforcing plate to rotate in the second direction and to press against the disc.

Abstract: A honing apparatus which has a multi-diameter honing tool in which a plurality of honing stones are mounted and which can be radially adjusted so as to hone the inside of a bore and wherein a range of adjustment of the tool is possible over a wide range by using one or more mounting spacers and one or more spacers for moving the stone so as to allow bores over a wide diameter range to be honed. Different numbers of honing stones may be mounted on the head as desired.

Abstract: A lift tube for use in erecting a shelter that has an air inflatable section or sections which are raised into position with the aid of an inflatable lift tube composed of a plurality of compartments that are interconnected in seriatim order. Bulk-heads in the lift tube separate such compartments and have one way valves to be done in seriatim order to control the inflation action.

Abstract: A weatherproofing strip for sealing the joint between two surfaces. The strip is an elongated, integral elastomeric strip, having a flexible central web and having a thickened portion along each edge. The thickened portion contains a deformable metal strip through which fasteners may be passed. A layer of sealant material is affixed along the underside of each longitudinal edge.

Abstract: A support frame for an awning having a cover made from a single piece of fabric (13), has the peculiarity of comprising support brackets (1) for attachment to a support structure such as a wall or a ceiling, the brackets (1) supporting a square bar (2) on which are carried attachment elements (3) fitted to the ends of guides (4) on which are slidable carriages (10) for displacement of an awning cover draw bar (12) attached at or ajacent to one end of the awning cover (13). The draw bar (12) overlies the said guides (4) over the whole of its longitudinal length so that a single piece of fabric can be used for the awning (13) even if the frame has several spans. At its other end the awning fabric (13) is wound on a wind up roller (14) rotatably supported by arms (15) connected to the square bar (2).

Abstract: A prefabricated building system comprising a portable wall unit having a supporting frame and utility apparatus mounted on the supporting frame. The utility apparatus preferably is adjustably mounted on the supporting frame and may comprise plumbing, electrical, heating and/or cooling apparatus for the rooms adjacent to the portable wall unit in the building in which it is to be installed. Prefabricated wall partitions for the adjacent rooms can be assembled with the portable wall unit before shipment to the building site or at the building site. The portable wall unit is provided with means for aligning the wall unit with the adjacent wall partitions to facilitate the assembly thereof.

Abstract: A system for joining two adjacent building structures having opposed openings therein to provide weather and electrical shielding of the juncture and wherein the buildings are not required to be in perfect parallel alignment, including a boot formed into a continuous loop of flexible weather and radio frequency impervious material, the width of the boot being at least equal the maximum spacing between the two buildings at the opposed openings, and attachment members for sealably securing the opposed peripherial edge of the boot to the two adjacent buildings, the boot forming a short length tube communicating one building opening with the other.

Abstract: A prefabricated modular building includes a plurality of lightweight contoured panels which are interconnected. Each of the panels has arcuate top, bottom and side edges so that the panels provide identically sized and contoured segments of an oblate spheroid. A securement mechanism is associated with each of the side edges of the panels and the securement mechanism of adjacent panels are interengaged for securing the panels together. The top edges cooperate and define a circular opening of substantial diameter. A fastening mechanism is associated with the top edge of each of the panels and a compression ring is cooperatively engaged with the fastening system of each of the panels for positively accurately positioning and aligning the panels and for thereby providing a rigid structure.

Abstract: In a formwork assembly for concrete wall structures side wall portions are provided at their edges with grooves and projections engageable therein for securing side wall portions together in a proper position, with the side wall portions being connected by connecting members and possibly end wall portions as required. On their inside surface, each side wall portion has engagement means to which the connecting members can be secured in the appropriate position. The engagement means may be formed by interengaging recesses and raised portions, ball portions and ball-receiving sockets or shallow detent grooves. Adhesive may also be employed for additional strength. The side wall portions may be used as insulating panels for walls, roof and floors.

Abstract: The invention relates to an anchor tie member for use in carrying prefabricated concrete components, comprising a threaded portion for connecting the tie member to a lifting device and a tie rod having two end portions the first of which is secured to said threaded portion and the second of which is shaped so as to form at least one undulation therein. The arcuate shapes may be produced by a cold forming method and the presence of the undulation prevents the anchor tie from tearing out of the concrete while it is being transported and ensures a large breakout cone such that considerable forces may be withstood.

Abstract: A building construction system is disclosed in which uniquely configured prefabricated concrete panels of great structural strength and high insulating value are employed. Each building panel, whether horizontal or vertical, is reinforced by transverse structural ties distributed along the panel length. Each structural tie includes a central portion of a reinforcing bar which has respective ends extending into concrete outer panel layers. Voids between the concrete outer layers may be filled with insulation such as polystyrene. A uniquely configured parapet is also disclosed. The parapet, which may extend to any length including the entire circumference of a building, comprises a channel which is generally parallel to the building edge and which is adapted to hold living plants including bushes, flowers and the like as well as small trees in enlarged channel regions. Thus, the utility of a building roof as a decorative and private living space is enhanced.

Abstract: A wooden spiral staircase having a hollow central support column, treads which abut but do not attach to such column, tread supports ending in tenons which completely intersect the column and are secured by a wedged-through mortise joint, spacerblocks between every two adjacent treads and under the bottommost tread, and an optional laminate bent handrail and optional balusters which serve no support function, enabling the manufacturer to construct and ship the main body of the staircase as a single unit that can easily be installed through "screwing" it through the doorway(s) of the intended site. The method of constructing such a staircase in which the placement of the mortises on the central column is determined by the use of a computer generated template, thereby allowing for every staircase to be custom-designed as well as ensuring extreme precision in the final product.

Abstract: A roof paver system includes a plurality of roof paver elements having alternating dovetail-shaped and tapered grooves and an upper surface having raised portions to generate vortexes for preventing wind from lifting the elements and to provide a safety tread. Connecting members are provided in some of the dovetail grooves to interconnect the roof paver elements and further prevent their displacement. The tapered grooves break the vacuum between the roof paver elements and the molds in which they are formed. Clips are provided to mate with outwardly projecting toes on the roof paver elements in perimeter courses to align and anchor them, and elongate battens, which are dovetail-shaped in cross section, are received in the dovetail grooves and include openings for receiving thin elements transverse to the battens to engage the concrete elements at the ends of the grooves.

Abstract: A panel-like structural component for gates, doors, facings or the like includes a main wall and a frame surrounding the main wall. The frame is composed of sectional members with hollow rectangular cross sections whose inner walls facing the inside of the frame have at least one groove at least in the longitudinal direction of the matter. The grooves of all longitudinal members open into each other and form a continuous peripheral groove into which a panel forming the main wall is inserted at its edges. The grooves are also used to join two sectional members together: the groove, which becomes wider toward its interior, is engaged at one of the sectional members with a projection formed on a connecting piece fastened to the other sectional member. The connecting piece is made up of a segment of another sectional member. The structural component can be produced with little labor and material; it is stable and lightweight and can be disassembled to simplify repair in the event it is damaged.

Abstract: An improved cinch strap and backup plate, used to form an enlap joint between two overlapping roofing panels, is disclosed. The backup plate is provided with horizontally extending shoulders which protrude outwardly from each end of the plate. One shoulder provides support for the endlap joint during its assembly, while the other shoulder provides support for later installed endlap joints. The cinch strap is configured to conform to the contour of the roofing panels. The cinch strap is provided with spines which provide structural support, and drainage channels which help to clear moisture from the roof. The cinch strap is configured so as to engage other, aligned cinch straps in a head-to-tail arrangement. The improved cinch strap and backup plate provide a structurally stronger, weatherproof endlap joint.

Each of these beams (1) is articulated to the adjacent beams at the ends of the bar (2) having larger length and the link between the bars (2') having smaller length is obtained for interposition of an intermediate element (9) having a length to be prearranged according to the outline of the structure to be realized.

Abstract: A plurality of beams or triangular plates members and beam members form a tetrahedral unit. These units are coupled at their common planes to adjacent facing units to form a foldable, extendible truss beam. Some of the beams are extendible or bendable. By extending or bending, each beam or plate member folds into a flat or bar shape.

Abstract: A spacer device for use in supporting bar-like members in construction applications, the device including a body having a plate portion with a support post portion having a saddle configured on the upper edge thereof, with a plurality of legs affixed to the plate member and extending generally perpendicular thereto. The support post is provided with either an aperture for passing fastening wire therethrough for securing the bar or a pair of aligned openings for receiving a U-shaped clamp member. The plate portion is provided with recesses in alignment with the legs to permit stacking of one spacer atop the other for building layers of rebar framework. The legs may be removable for reverse connection, thus permitting the plate portion to be used as a "sand plate" support for reinforced concrete construction, or alternatively a separate "sand plate" may be used.

Abstract: A process for constructing a building by forming a plurality of individual panels with each panel being of a length and height so as to constitute one wall or one roof section of the building, securing studding in a predetermined pattern to each of said individual panels, and assembling the insulated panels together in situ so as to construct a building having walls and a roof. Further, a means is provided for forming the wall of an insulated panel with the placement of studding in a predetermined pattern with said studding being laminated to the panel so as to form the basic wall structure.

Abstract: The edge rail for a window pane (3) in particular an all-glass door comprises at least two clamping rail sections (5, 7) which embrace the edge of the pane (3) and are spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the edge, each comprising two profiled rail members interconnected by clamping screws (41) extending transversely to the face of the pane. A fitting, e.g. a flanged rail mortice lock (9) is provided between the two clamping rail sections (5, 7) fixed to both clamping rail sections (5, 7) preferably via spacer members (17, 19). It is not necessary to mill rebates into the preferably extruded profiles of the clamping rail sections for accommodating the lock. Cover strips are fitted in positive engagement, releasably to the clamping rail sections (5, 7).

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a pill dispensing machine which can selectively dispense a plurality of different medications into preformed recesses in a plastic strip. The machine includes data entry means for entering the various types of medications to be dispensed and the time and date at which such medications are to be administered to the patient. The machine controls a plurality of dispensing devices to dispense into each of the recesses one or more pills associated with a particular time and date for administration. The machine also includes printing means for printing the date and time of administration onto a backing label adapted to cover the recesses to form a wholly contained pill container. The machine also includes a conveyor mechanism for moving the plastic strips past the dispensing means and the label applying area so that, at the output of the machine, completed packages of pills ready for administration at the specified printed time can be given to the patient.

Abstract: Apparatus for forming a web of predetermined thickness from a molten material. The apparatus includes a rotatable cylindrical drum having a cylindrical gel forming surface thereon, and first and second cylindrical support surfaces thereon, the first and second cylindrical support surfaces being spacedly positioned along the axis of rotation of the drum on opposite sides of the gel forming surface and being concentric with the cylindrical gel forming surface. A support assembly is provided for riding on the first and second cylindrical support surfaces as the drum rotates, and a molten material supply box is supported by the support assembly for depositing molten material onto the rotatable cylindrical drum as the drum is rotated.

Abstract: A method of producing film-wrapped packages or packaged units, wherein a package or packaged unit is wrapped in a film hose formed by helical wrapping of the film (web) (30). In front of the wrapping front advancing relative to the package, a tear-up thread is also enclosed by the forming film hose. A weakening (tear-up) line is formed in the film hose in the vicinity and along the length of the tear-up thread. Here, an abutment for a spiked roller (10) is formed by a stationary tongue (12) above a conveyor belt (6) and below the film (web) (30).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for filling a bottle with an oxygen sensitive liquid such as beer in which the bottle is pre-evacuated, pressurized with pure CO.sub.2, over-filled with liquid at constant pressure and then brought back to the proper fill level by injecting pure CO.sub.2 and forcing the excess back into the gas pressurized liquid storage tank while the bottle is still coupled to the filling head. After uncoupling, the bottle is transported to under a closure cap applying device at which there are nozzles that project CO.sub.2 under the device and over and around the mouth of the bottle so the space even within the cap is purged of air. The CO.sub.2 used for purging is adequately free of air since it is taken from the storage tank to which CO.sub.2 is returned from the bottles as a result of filling liquid displacing the CO.sub.2 gas which is diluted only to the extent that pre-evacuation is not perfect.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in the packaging of cigarettes which eliminates interior package edges which interfere with reinsertion into a cigarette package of partially withdrawn cigarettes. The creation of interfering internal edges if avoided by employment of a novel technique for the folding of the package inner wrapper about a block of cigarettes.

Abstract: In a combine header having a rotatable crop reel, a hydraulic cylinder is carried on each of the reel support arms for adjusting the fore and aft position of the reel. The cylinders are serially connected and comprise a phasing circuit wherein the cylinders have paired fluid inlets and flow-restricting orifices, and the piston is positionable between the inlet and orifice of a pair in either full-strode position. A check valve is operationally associated with each orifice to prevent loss of fluid acting on the piston when being moved from either full-stroke position.

Abstract: A grass trimmer has a support which supports a portion of a control rod on the side thereof which is closer to a prime mover in such a manner that the portion is received inside the support and which rotatably supports the output shaft of a clutch for coupling a transmission shaft received inside the control rod. The support has its outer periphery covered with a tubular elastic cover.

Abstract: A stranded rope (12) of large size is made by assembling a plurality of strands (10) and a core (11) side-by-side along a track (13); securing the leading ends in a clamp (14); securing the trailing ends in spaced anchorages (17, 18); applying tension to the strands (10) and core (11); guiding the strands (10) intermediate the clamp (14) and anchorages (17, 18) into the closed rope array round the core (11) by means of a closing die (20) on a trolley (19); moving the trolley (19) from the clamp (14) to the anchorages (17, 18); rotating the clamp (14) progressively as the trolley (19) moves progressively; rotating the trailing ends of the strands (10) and core (11) progressively in the same direction as the clamp (14); securing all the strands (10) and the core (11) together adjacent the trailing ends; and releasing the tension from the strands and the core.

Abstract: Flexibility in the control of the compressor bleed valve is of the type utilized in a twin spool axial flow engine for preventing compressor surge is manifested by electronically summing an approximated rate of change of burner pressure that has a first order time constant introduced to actual burner pressure and a burner pressure limit that is scheduled as a function of corrected high pressure compressor speed and the altitude of the aircraft. The signal may be treated by a hysteresis circuit to stabilize the bleed valve.

Abstract: A two-tank working gas supply and pump-down system is coupled to a hot gas engine, such as a Stirling engine. The system has a power control valve for admitting the working gas to the engine when increased power is needed, and for releasing the working gas from the engine when engine power is to be decreased. A compressor pumps the working gas that is released from the engine. Two storage vessels or tanks are provided, one for storing the working gas at a modest pressure (i.e., half maximum pressure), and another for storing the working gas at a higher pressure (i.e., about full engine pressure). Solenoid valves are associated with the gas line to each of the storage vessels, and are selectively actuated to couple the vessels one at a time to the compressor during pumpdown to fill the high-pressure vessel with working gas at high pressure and then to fill the low-pressure vessel with the gas at low pressure.
