  • Patent number: 4716598
Abstract: The invention describes heat-insulating fabric articles, for example a jacket, comprising an outer layer (17) preferably of synthetic material such as woven nylon, and a lining (19) joined together by a network of quilting seams (3) to form pockets. Each pocket is filled with closed polystyrene beads (21) so that movement between the beads is possible but migration of the beads to other regions of the pocket is inhibited. Such a garment is heat-insulative even when wet, and when dry promotes the formation of a static charge in the interstices between the beads.

  • Patent number: 4716614
Abstract: A device for monitoring the process of toothbrushing has a handle that is electrically connected to signalling means. The handle has a neck and the neck is designed to consecutively receive various heads of toothbrushes. Removable and replaceable heads, with numerous bristles thereon, can be consecutively mounted on said handle. There are sensing means on the neck to continuously measure a bending moment of the area to which said sensing means is attached. As pressure is exerted on bristles of the head, that pressure is transmitted to said neck and the signalling means can be activated. The device is useful in teaching appropriate methods of brushing, thereby reducing or eliminating abrasion of the teeth. In addition to pressure, the device is able to monitor frequency, duration and direction of brushing.

  • Patent number: 4716635
Abstract: A two section mechanical fuse is disclosed. A first spring biased section fabricated from a wire is bent to a triangular configuration. This triangularly bent wire has two overlapping base portions held in side-by-side juxtaposition by the spring force of the wire. A bar having a radially extending tongue is captured within the triangular bent wire section. The tongue is captured between and protrudes outwardly from the side-by-side overlapping base members drawing the attached bar into contact with these side-by-side members. Under normal tensive strain the tongue and bar form the fused link in any tensive member to which the device is inserted, for example the teat cup assembly to a retractor in a dairy farm. Where force exceeding the fused limit is encountered, the tongue draws the bar between the two triangular base pieces. Forced opening of the two side-by-side members occurs, the fuse parts, and breakage elsewhere is averted.

  • Patent number: 4716637
Abstract: A spreader roll that operates to convey flexible sheet material in its manufacture via a bowed shaft which supports a plurality of thermoplastic bearing units which are spaced laterally on the shaft by spacers to maintain a clearance space between sleeves in the bearing units. The end bearing units have sleeves and bearings therein that are sealed from external contaminants by a locking sleeve, an annular seal and end caps. A cylindrical sleeve encompasses all of the bearing units and is operative to contact the sheet material to be conveyed.

  • Patent number: 4716638
Abstract: A method for aligning bearing covers at bearing sections of a crankcase in which bearing covers of a crankshaft bearing are aligned by way of fastening bolts and subsequently machined-in fitting pins and wherein the bearing bore for the crankshaft is subsequently machined. Thereafter, the crankshaft is assembled whereby the bearing cover is at first aligned by the fitting pins and is then fixed by means of the fastening bolts. Not only a secure support of the bearing cover at the bearing sections is assured thereby, but also narrow tolerances which favorably influence the bearing support of the crankshaft, can be maintained without problem.

  • Patent number: 4716639
Abstract: A single-piece thermally isolated multi-point injector for a hydrazine fuel catalytic gas generator having a series of integral feed tubes each with a fuel passage and with the fuel inlet ends thereof spaced apart for ease of manufacture and inspection and associated with a distribution manifold. The feed tubes are arranged in spaced-apart circular arrays to facilitate formation thereof from an investment casting or by radial electrochemical machining cuts. The fuel injector retains the thermal isolation features of a welded or brazed capillary tube injector, but eliminates leakage points encountered in such a structure. The outlet end of each feed tube has a porous member associated therewith to obtain a uniform flow path of hydrazine fuel in all directions onto a catalyst bed.

  • Patent number: 4716640
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of manufacturing a composite material burner ring made wholly of a composite material. The burner ring is manufactured by winding a carbon or ceramic type refractory material about a toroidal form until a specific material thickness is obtained. The burner ring elements, such as radial arms, fastening clips or fuel feed tubes are then fastened onto the winding. Each of the elements may be formed in mirror-image halves and may be assembled onto the burner ring body in adjacent pairs, each one of the pairs facing in an opposite direction. The winding of the composite material is continued until a final thickness is obtained, thereby integrally attaching the burner ring elements to the burner ring body. The assembly is then subjected to a carbonization or ceramization head treating process.

  • Patent number: 4716641
Abstract: Truck windshield sealing mouldings for GM or Ford products use a tool having a rectangular opening through which the insert moulding is fed to force same into the sealing moulding but this tool and configuration is not usable with truck products produced by Dodge and some foreign manufacturers. The present tool includes a flattened front end portion having a V-shaped aperture formed therein with the narrow apex of the V directed towards the pointed end of the tool. A preferred embodiment includes the aperture widening into a rectangular rear opening so that the tool can be used with the majority of truck windshields sealing mouldings including GM, Ford, and Dodge products as well as several foreign truck products.

  • Patent number: 4716642
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an extractor tool for removing valve lifters from an engine block or head in a fast convenient manner and with a minimum of manual dexterity or strength. The prior art devices provide tools having complicated force multiplying linkages and camming devices associated with a plurality of groove engaging fingers which are only adapted to engage a single groove or oil hole in the valve lifter body. The present invention overcomes these deficiencies by providing an extractor tool which is adapted to engage multiple grooves within the valve lifter body and assures precise alignment therebetween to eliminate any cocking of the lifter body relative to the extractor tool during removal of the lifter from the enginer block.

  • Patent number: 4716644
Abstract: A roller or wheel of the type in question has rolling bearings (5) which must be pre-loaded; a unit and relative method of assembly as disclosed offers simple fitment of component parts, accurate pre-load, and economy of manufacture. The two bearings (5) are checked axially by external limiting means (9) and internal limiting means (8); the method of assembly features a step of compacting the component parts axially to the point where the reaction produced by the parts thus urged together offsets the applied compacting force, and a subsequent step of spreading the external limiting means (9) in such a way as to arrive at the requisite bearing pre-load.
