  • Patent number: 4736490
Abstract: A bracket hinge and bracket members (10, 10') with a spring biased and movable locking member (30). The locking or latch member (30) has ear parts (38, 39) received in locking openings (25, 25') where wedging surfaces (40, 41) on the ear parts cooperate with complimentary surfaces (42, 42') on the bracket members for bringing the bracket members into a tight end-to-end alignment when the bracket members are in an extended position. When the locking member (30) is moved to an unlocking position, pivoting of the hinge about a pivot pin (32) automatically places locking pins (70, 71) in a circular shaped groove (55) on the locking member (30) to retain the locking member (30) in an unlocked position. In pivoting the hinge from an extended position to a folded position, longitudinal spring members (80, 81) are placed under tension over annular rollers (60, 61) so that the spring tension in a folded position assists in return of the hinge from a folded position to an extended position.

  • Patent number: 4736524
Abstract: There is disclosed a framing T-Square and protractor wherein the head of the T-Square and the elongated rule thereof are connected by means of a ballbearing allowing the rule portion to be free-swinging with respect to the head, which is in the form of a rectangular plate having a protractor scale thereon marked in degrees and auxiliary scales marked with inches of rise per 12 inches of run for common rafters and for hip and valley rafters. A rectangular panel is hingedly attached to the plate on a hinged line normally at right angles to the elongated rule; a friction locking mechanism permits the rule to be locked at any desired angle relative to the plate and panel. The rule, plate, and panel are marked on the back with rafter tables and other data including run lengths and protractor angle settings useful in roof framing and other construction or carpentry work. A vernier scale on the front of the panel facilitates setting of angle measurements to an accuracy of one-tenth of a degree.

  • Patent number: 4736529
Abstract: A device for the uniform application of gas on a plane surface comprises several slot-like openings which are at least approximately in one plane; the longitudinal axes of the nozzle openings are radially arranged, whereas the direction of the flow exiting from the slot-like openings is inclined towards the plane in which the openings are located. This allows an extremely uniform application so that the difference between the maximum and the minimum values of the heat-transfer coefficient is only very small.

  • Patent number: 4736530
Abstract: There is disclosed a shoe with an internal warming mechanism that includes a heat engine and, in particular, a heat engine operating on a substantially or quasi-Carnot cycle. The warming mechanism has a compressor for compressing a gas, a condenser for condensing the gas into a liquid, an expansion and evaporator zone for expanding the liquified gas into a gas and a return line to cycle the expanded gas to the compressor. The source of energy for compression of the gas is the movement of the wearer's foot in the shoe, and the heel of the shoe has a hollow cavity in which the gas compressor is located. The sole of the shoe has an internal heel plate which is coupled, on its undersurface, to a post which is mechanically linked to the gas compressor such that up and down movements of the post in response to the movement of the wearer's heel will drive the compressor and provide the necessary work to drive the heat engine.

  • Patent number: 4736536
Abstract: A label for identifying the subject matter of a photograph or like item includes an envelope having two portions: a first portion containing identifying indicia and a second portion containing extensions and adhesive for affixing the envelope to said photograph. A longitudinal fold divides the first and second portions so that, in use, the second portion is affixed to the back of a photograph while the first portion lies closely adjacent the front of said photograph but without obscuring the subject of the photograph. Tabs bearing adhesive are disposed at the ends of the first portion and are folded around and attached to the second portion to form a pocket or envelope into which a photograph may be inserted. The device results in a substantially flat identifying label affixed securely to the photograph which may then be viewed, mounted or stored as desired.
