  • Patent number: 4747183
Abstract: A spring hinge for eyeglasses in which each bow can be swung out against spring force about a fulcrum spaced from the hinge axis so that the bow will resiliently bear on the temples of the wearer. A spring is secured on a plunger rod between a plunger head at one end of the rod and a stop ring, which is slidably mounted on the rod. The plunger is contained in and releasably locked to a receptacle which is provided on the bow. The plunger rod is connected to a bow-side bearing eye. • Patent number: 4747184
Abstract: Animal stunning equipment suitable for use with sheep or other small livestock includes a restrainer-conveyor (36) comprising one or more pair of continuous belt or slat conveyors having inclined operating surfaces facing each other to define a substantially V-shaped passageway in which an animal can be restrained and conveyed towards automatic stunning means. The stunning means is arranged so that one or more sets of electrodes (30) which are moveable between a stunning position and a withdrawn position, are set at rest to form a barrier in the path of the moving animal to stun the animal immediately it comes into contact with the waiting electrodes. The conveyor is temporarily stopped when the animal contacts the electrodes. After stunning has occurred, the electrodes are de-activated and moved to the withdrawn position of the conveyor path to enable the conveyor to be restarted and eject the stunned animal.

  • Patent number: 4747212
Abstract: A cutting device for plastic pipe for use principally in the aid of plumbing, swimming pool and spa installations. The pipe cutter is designed specifically to be used or attached to a hand held drill motor of the type which tradesmen commonly carry and use for drilling holes and setting screws. The pipe cutter includes a body which is attachable to the front of a drill motor and houses a dual directional linear actuator such as an epicyclic ball screw with bi-directional brake. The epicyclic ball screw linear actuator responds to the chuck or rotating shaft of the drill motor. The housing defines or holds a U shaped recess or cradle for receiving a plastic pipe extending transverse to the length of the housing or more particularly on center or to the axis of the drill motor shaft. A guillotine type of cutter blade is driven by the screw actuator to move through a slot into the cradle to be driven through the side wall of the pipe and therefore sever the pipe within the cradle.

  • Patent number: 4747214
Abstract: With motor-driven chain saws, there is the danger that the chain saw will be thrown upwardly and rearwardly when it is applied to wood by the user with a forward thrust. Serious injuries can then occur. The invention is directed to a saw chain which is so configured that the cutting forces are automatically reduced in response to the occurrence of excessive reaction forces so that the reaction force is immediately reduced to a tolerable amount thereby eliminating the kickback effect. The drive links of the saw chain which engage into the nose sprocket of the guide bar are so dimensioned that they can further pivot in the tooth gaps of the nose sprocket out of their normal position and, in this way, take the cutting links with them in such a manner that the free angle .alpha. of the cutting teeth is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4747216
Abstract: A clinometer includes a cyclindrical cavity having a conductive cylindrical wall and a vertical annular wall having a high resistance resistor uniformly distributed thereon. A freely moving, heavy conductive ball seeks the lowest point in the cavity. The conductive ball contacts both the conductive cylindrical wall and a point along the resistor, thereby defining the resistance between a terminal connected to one end of the resistor and another terminal connected to the conductive cylindrical wall. This resistance is a function of the inclination of the clinometer. A reference voltage is applied to the end terminal of the resistor. The terminal connected to the conductive cylindrical wall is coupled to a circuit that converts a voltage across the resistance into a digital voltage that represents the inclination of the clinometer.

  • Patent number: 4747218
Abstract: The main object of the invention is the limiting of corrosion in vapor-phase reflow soldering machines. Liquid chlorine and fluorine are used in the device for soldering in vapor phase. The decomposition of these elements by heat releases ions which, when brought in the presence of water, form hydrofluoric acid and hydrochloric acid. These acids corrode the tank through which the soldering method is used as well as the metallic elements of the soldered components. The device which is the object of the present invention eliminates water from the secondary liquid by isolating the vapors of these liquids from the atmosphere, preventing water from penetrating into the water-removal cartridge and providing for the water-removal process before fresh secondary liquid is brought into use. The invention applies mainly to reflow soldering in vapor phase.

Abstract: A sole for shoes is provided which provides a resilient, shock-absorbing and gradual impact of the foot with the ground. The insoles on the surface facing the foot, has a plurality of parallel, mobile blocks, supported by springs, preferably spiral springs, of different stiffness, preferably in the ratio 9-4-5 corresponding respectively to the heel, the plantar arch and the metatarsus areas, located within cavities made in the rigid or semi-rigid sole. The outsole, which is connected to the insole by glueing or molding and which faces the ground, is made of an elastomeric material and has three protrusions connected transversely and arranged the first beneath the joints, the second under the metatarsus and the third under the heel respectively. The insole group containing cavities, springs and blocks is kept in position by an annular welt fixed to the sole by screws. Any type of vamp, especially the open type suitable for sandals, may be used with the sole.

  • Patent number: 4747223
Abstract: A partially transparent mirrored screen extends continuously over a preselected area and contains a distribution of reflective material which varies in optical density to define regions of differing optical transmittance to light. A plurality of regions are selectively backlighted to reveal two-dimensional or three-dimensional images embodied within media behind the screen. The densities of the regions are chosen so that the images are displayed clearly when the regions are backlighted and disappear in the absence of backlighting, leaving the screen uniformly reflective of environmental light in an "off" condition. In a preferred embodiment, the reflective material includes a front layer of uniform optical density over the preselected area and a rear layer of nonuniform optical density. The front layer corresponds to the density required for a first object or image-bearing sheet located behind one region of the mirror and the rear layer provides a different density for a sheet located behind another region.

  • Patent number: 4747225
Abstract: The weapon barrel comprises a liner and at least one jacket tube. The liner is made of a highly wear-resistant material, like a cobalt or nickel base alloy, and the jacket tube is made of a tough alloy, like steel. In the manufacturing process the liner material is packed into the jacket tube in the form of a powdery material which may be pre-pressed or pre-sintered. The packing is arranged such as to leave a central free space in the jacket tube, and the jacket tube may be surrounded by an encapsulating tube. The jacket tube or the encapsulating tube is closed either before or after evacuation, and the closed tube arrangement is subjected to a combined heat and pressure treatment at temperatures of at least 900.degree. C., but below the melting point of the relevant materials and at pressures of at least 900 bar. The compound body thus obtained is formed with a full-area metallic bond between the liner and the jacket tube.

  • Patent number: 4747226
Abstract: A fishing assembly adapted to prevent an ice hole from freezing over. The fishing assembly includes a plastic tubular hollow elongated sleeve for fitting inside the ice hole and a flat annular flange which extends integrally radially outwardly from the sleeve, for retaining the fishing assembly in position inside the ice hole. A plastic cover is secured removably to the upper end of the sleeve for sealing it. The cover includes a slit-like slot for defining an entranceway for the fishing line to extend therethrough into the ice hole. A flag assembly is secured moveably to the cover, for providing a visual indication to the user that a fish has struck the bait. An internal ridge supports the cover entirely within the hollow interior of the sleeve at a substantial distance from the upper edge thereof, thereby to prevent inadvertent dislodgment thereof. The cover is therefor disposed closer to the water surface for providing a better insulation thereto.
