  • Patent number: 4783884
Abstract: An improved knob for attachment to a lever or the like having a knob body with a cavity formed therein, an extension operatively attached to the body and being biased toward the cavity. Operatively attached to the extension is a projection for engaging a mating portion on the lever and a tapered portion for enabling the knob to be easily removed from the lever. The preferred knob has the extension connected to the knob body so that the extension does not project very far below the cavity entrance. The knob of the present invention is preferably manufactured by injection molding in a single step operation. Once cured, the knob is removed from the mold in condition for assembly on an appropriate lever or the like. To effectuate assembly, an assembler simply places the knob on the lever or the like until the projection engages a mating portion thereof.

  • Patent number: 4783891
Abstract: Cryogenic process and apparatus for removing adherent coatings or linings from metallic substrates, especially the interiors of metal vessels or pipes. In one embodiment, a metal vessel having a polymeric interior lining is pressurized to about 900 psi, and the lining is contacted with a cryogenic liquid, preferably carbon dioxide, while this pressure is maintainted. The pressure is high enough so that the cryogenic liquid does not boil. The lining is then subjected to shock by ultrasound, for example. This causes the lining to break up into small particles and fall off the metal substrate. These particles, suspended in the cryogenic liquid, are removed from the pressure vessel and separated from the cryogenic liquid, which can be reused. In another embodiment, the cryogenic liquid is injected into a pipe having an adherent mineral deposit while maintaining a pressure of about 700 psi. A stream of cryogenic liquid containing suspended mineral particles is removed from the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4783917
Abstract: A bracelet assembly for carrying identification information. The bracelet assembly has an elongated flexible band with fastening means for fastening the band in a closed loop fashion around a patient's limb. There is a transparent portion on the flexible band through which the user can read the identification information. A permanently deformable layer is interposed between the transparent portion and a base layer. The base layer and permanently deformable layer are of contrasting colors. The permanently deformable layer is deformed by lines of force applied by mechanical pressure means such as a typewriter or credit card imprinter which deforms the deformable layer along the lines of force which correspond to the identification information. This renders the base layer visible through both the transparent portion and the permanently deformable layer along the lines of pressure.

  • Patent number: 4783919
Abstract: A device for the cyclic rearrangement of a pile of rectangular sheets, especially photographic prints. The device includes first and second frame parts (12, 14), of which one has a viewing window (35) in front of a principal face of the pile. The frame parts can be pulled away from each other and pushed back together again parallel to the plane of this face. A single sheet is removed from one end of the pile when the frame parts are pulled away from each other and returned to the other end of the pile when the frame parts are pushed together. During its movement relative to the window, the sheet facing the window is held spaced from the window by elements on the frame parts which are arranged and designed so that they overlap all edges of the picture but nevertheless render possible the passage of the picture through the gap defined by those elements.

  • Patent number: 4783921
Abstract: A wind resistant sign for display purposes includes a base and a resilient panel having a base portion supported by the base for extending outwardly from the base in a direction perpendicular to the base, the panel being thin and of such resilience and strength as to undergo bending deflection responsive to wind forces. First and second oppositely disposed mounting members of the base are clamped together by screw and nut fasteners to define between the members a throat for receiving the panel base portion. The throat opens upwardly on opposite faces of the panel in smoothly outwardly diverging relationship to the panel with radius of curvature much less than the natural bending radius of curvature of the panel to provide a strain-relieving support on opposite faces of the panel when undergoing bending deflection.

  • Patent number: 4783922
Abstract: A calendar system for training and enhancing the memory of a person practicing the methodology of the system. Two calendars are arranged side by side. The first calendar is permanent and reused each year. The user notes thereon events of perennial significance for reference at appropriate times throughout each year, thus regularly refreshing the users recollection of these events and enhancing the user's memory thereof. The second calendar is temporary in nature and meant to be replaced at regular intervals. Unlike the first calendar, the second is provided with indicia representative of the instant calendar year, as well as indicia representing the day-names of the week. The user records on this second calendar current and near-future events of transient significance. This second calendar is disposed of and a replacement provided therefor at selected regular intervals since the record of transient event data is not intended for perennial reference.

  • Patent number: 4783923
Abstract: A sign has slat panels mounted for sliding laterally on one side of a base plate and bars having cam followers mounted on the other side. Each bar has a pin, some of which project through slats in the bars and all of which project through slots in the base plate to terminate in a hole in the panels, respectively for driving the panels laterally in response to sequential lateral shifting of the bars. A first driven gear has axially extending cam pins of increasingly greater lengths to engage successive followers and shift the bars and panels to present a series of pictures. A second commonly driven gear has one cam pin which orbits in the opposite direction for periodically engaging all followers simultaneously and driving said bars back to initial position to start a new display cycle.

  • Patent number: 4783924
Abstract: An improved firing safety device for handguns is disclosed. The device prevents the accidental discharge of a gun by children, but is easily removable by an adult thereby allowing the gun to be safely stored in a loaded and fully assembled condition. The gun may thus be readied for use almost immediately. The device includes a cartridge which is inserted into the firing chamber and a rod which is inserted into the gun barrel. The end of the rod is captured by and locked within the cartridge thereby preventing the gun cylinder from revolving. The device is removeable by applying manual pressure to a cap at the front of the rod which releases the capture mechanism within the cartridge and allows the rod to be withdrawn from the gun barrel.

Abstract: The symmetrically operating jaws of the fish gaff are movable between an open and cocked position and a closed fish engaging position. The jaws are normally urged to the closed position to thereby clampingly engage opposite sides of a fish positioned therebetween. A coil spring trigger is connected at opposite ends to medial portions of the jaws and extends in a straight line path across the space between the jaws when in the open and cocked position to maintain the jaws in the open position. The medial portion of the coil spring trigger is engageable by a fish in position between the open jaws so that the coil spring trigger is moved out of the straight line path and releases the jaws so that they are immediately free to clamp the fish therebetween.
