Patent number: 4821363Abstract: In order to achieve satisfactory defrosting without causing undue wear of the wiper blades equipped with double tongues of elastomer material, the invention provides for first freeing the tongues from the coating of ice by blowing hot air into the duct formed between said tongues, then raising the pivot shaft (24) of the blade holder, and therefore the tongues, by applying an axial thrust to said shaft by means of the piston (27) of a jack (86) while retaining parallelism between the tongues and the windshield. The connection, preventing rotation but allowing free axial sliding, between the shaft (24) and the driving connecting rod (29) makes it possible for the shaft to pivot both in the raised position, while passing a current of hot air over the ice from the windshield wiper which has been lifted off the windshield, and in the lowered position in which the tongues bear against the windshield.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Inventor: Rene Delluc

The safety handle has a frame including a bearing aperture receiving shaft so as to be freely rotatable on and relative to the shaft, a lever arm extending away from the bearing aperture, and pivot means laterally spaced from the aperture. Centering means resiliently bi-directionally biases the drive handle and engagement means towards the centralized position. When the drive handle is grasped and twisted around the handle axis, the engagement means is pivoted to engage the engagement band, enabling torque exerted on the drive handle relative to the shaft axis to turn the shaft, but when the twisting effort is released, the centering means returns the handle and the engagement means to the centralized position, thereby releasing the engagement means from the engagement band and freeing the safety handle for free rotation around and relative to the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Assignee: Larry K. Patent number: 4821373Abstract: There is described a hinged structure comprising two supports and one or more hinges hinging the supports together so that they are parallel and closely adjacent, the or each hinge comprising two hinge members, each hinge member being made of resilient strip material, each hinge member being S-shaped, passing partially round each support and together with the other hinge member forming a letter .chi. or FIG. 8 configuration as seen in a direction along the supports, wherein a releasable catch is provided for holding the supports in a predetermined relative angular position, the catch comprising two cam members each associated with a respective suport and the two being resiliently urged into engagement and so shaped and arranged that rotation away from the said predetermined relative angular position of the supports urges the cam members apart against the resilient urging.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Assignee: Courier Products LimitedInventors: Robert A.
