  • Patent number: 4875256
Abstract: Full sliver cans are positioned in readiness for replacing cans being emptied with an end of the sliver exposed from the full can. A movable carriage is positioned at a full can and a gripper on the carriage extending vertically downward is rotated around the can to grasp the exposed end with suction. Any excess length of sliver is severed. The gripper is then raised to lift the sliver end and the gripper is pivoted in its raised position above a feed table onto which the gripper releases the sliver end for feeding on the table to the draw frame with the other slivers thereon. The full can whose sliver end is on the feed table is then pushed from the ready position into the sliver feed position and in doing so pushes the empty can out of sliver feed position to complete the replacement.

  • Patent number: 4875259
Abstract: An intermeshable article useful for a multitude of purposes such as fastening, closing, coupling and connecting, to name but a few. The article includes a member which has at least one major surface which is a structured surface. The structured surface is made up of a plurality of elements. Each element has at least one side inclined relative to the plane of the member at an angle sufficient to form a taper. Thus, each element may mesh with at least one corresponding element when brought into contact therewith and adhere thereto at least partially because of the frictional force of adherence of the contacting sides. The corresponding element may be the article itself, another similar article or a dissimilar article, such as for example a container having a correspondingly shaped structured surface. In the preferred embodiment, the elements are arranged side by side to form a plurality of linear ridges and grooves whereby the sides of adjacent elements form the sides of each groove.

  • Patent number: 4875270
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing one or more parts, each of which is provided with an opening, to a hollow member. In the starting state, the inner diameter of the opening of the parts is greater than the outer diameter of the surface provided on the hollow member for securing the part. The parts are placed in the prescribed position on the hollow member prior to the securing operation. In order in a simple and economical manner to reliably secure the parts to the hollow member without the danger of overstressing the latter, and without the danger that the parts will loosen, a temperature difference is produced, prior to placing the parts on the hollow member, by heating the parts and/or by cooling the hollow member. Subsequently, each part is secured to the hollow member by widening the latter at least in the securing regions thereof, and by a subsequent shrink fitting of the parts onto the hollow member as a consequence of the temperature equalization that occurs.

  • Patent number: 4875282
Abstract: A multilayer printed circuit board in which multiple layers of a composite material, fabricated by the lay-up of an aramid fiber tape, are employed to provide a circuit board with a desired coefficient of thermal expansion. Tape lay-up of aramid fibers provides a composite layer having a lower thermal coefficient of expansion than a composite layer fabricated from woven aramid fibers. Degradation in the tensile modulus of elasticity caused by the over and under characteristics of woven fabrics is also eliminated by tape lay-up, thus providing a circuit board with better mechanical strength. In addition, tape lay-up reduces the amount of resin required to fabricate the circuit board and eliminates the need for twisting the aramid fibers into yarns and then weaving the yarns, thus reducing the cost of the circuit board.

Abstract: An automatic SMD equipping unit utilizes a rotatable and displaceable multiple equipping head (1) with plural suction pipettes (2) and a device carrier (7) that contains processing stations (8). The multiple equipping head (1) executes a collecting event via delivery units (4) whereby it picks up components. The equipping of the printed circuit board (5) from the equipping head occurs in a second procedure, whereby the multiple equipping head (1) need not move back and forth between delivery unit (4) and printed circuit board (5) after every placement of a component (3) onto the printed circuit board (5). The components that were picked up by the suction pipettes (2) are processed by processing stations (8) after the collecting and before the equipping. Here, the components are centered, contacted, measured and tested.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of manufacturing bundles of electrical cables. The bundles include a plurality of main conductors and a plurality of secondary conductors. The main and secondary conductors both include a conductor core and an insulating sheath. The ends of the main conductors include box-like connection elements which are either male plugs or female sockets. The method includes the steps of: stripping an intermediate portion of the main conductors; stripping the ends of the secondary conductor; positioning the stripped portions of the main and secondary conductors tightly against one another; mounting a thimble on the two stripped portions; and mounting a band of cold-deformable insulating material on the thimble. The apparatus includes devices which perform each of these functions.

Abstract: A chisel for rotationally disengaging a threaded bolt, nut or screw, has at one end thereof a cutting edge for cutting into and penetrating a surface of the bolt. The chisel further includes a first chisel face terminating at the cutting edge of the chisel, and a stop face positioned away from the cutting edge with the first chisel face disposed between the stop face and the cutting edge. The stop face is at an angle of about 90 degrees or less with respect to the first chisel face. The cutting edge has a width that is about equal to or greater than the distance between the stop face and the cutting edge. The stop face prevents further penetration of the cutting edge into the bolt beyond the stop face so as to provide for application of rotational force to the bolt by the chisel without further penetration of the cutting edge into the bolt.

Abstract: Windage locking apparatus for an archery bow sight. The apparatus includes aperture, barrel, and body members concentrically positioned within each other about an axis and common locking structure to selectively lock these member together to prevent relative movement among them about and along the axis. The common structure includes a single set screw extending outwardly of the axis through the barrel and body members and a locking knob to fit on the portion of the set screw protruding outwardly of the body member. In operation and with the set screw securely holding the aperture and barrel members together, the locking knob can be tightened on the protruding portion of the set screw to draw the barrel member into frictional contact with the surrounding body member to lock the aperture, barrel, and body members securely in place for shooting. Additionally, the present invention provides structure to keep the locking knob from being separated from the set screw and possibly becoming lost.

A yoke assembly allows this 360.degree. rotation. A second rotational joint on the yoke provides azimuth orientation of the prism and target assembly. Elevational alignment indicators, on the rotatable connection between the yoke and target allow rough alignment, while collimator sights mounted on the target provide more precise alignment.

Abstract: A device for quickly and accurately determining the depth of cuts in a key, and for other depth determinations associated therewith. This device has a fixed anvil member having a flat top surface, as a reference surface, with a transverse slot to accept a second edge of doubly-cut key. A tip member having a selected configuration is biased toward this reference or "zero position" surface. Deviation of the tip member away from this reference surface is displayed in a visual manner on a dial indicator, a digital readout indicator or the like. The dimensioning of all the cuts of a key can be performed in seconds to accuracies of about 0.0005 inch. The cuts to be dimensioned can be in edges of the key or in flat side surfaces. Also, the pins of a lock tumbler can also be dimensioned with the embodiments of the invention.
