Patent number: 4901557Abstract: Circular cylindrical bodies (2) are formed from rectangular sheet-metal blanks by rounding and longitudinal seam welding. These are widened oval-conically over their whole length in a first expanding operation and then relaxed again. Then the bodies (2) are widened in a second expanding operation so that they acquire their polygon-like, particularly rectangle-like, cross-sectional shape over their whole length. As a result, the bodies are stressed at their marginal regions at the ends in such a manner that these marginal regions do not become undulatory and can therefore be satisfactorily joined with a can cover or bottom.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1988Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignee: Elpatronic AGInventor: Herwig Schmidt

Patent number: 4901559Abstract: Method for measuring vapor pressure of liquids in which liquid to be measured is placed in a previously-evacuated measuring cell, and influence of the gas dissolved in the liquid on the measuring results is eliminated. The liquid to be measured is added in at least two separate portions, with total pressure present in the measuring cell being measured after the addition of each portion and after saturation vapor pressure equilibrium has become established, to obtain a thus-measured value. Gas pressure present in the measuring cell which is due to the gas dissolved in the liquid is derived from at least two thus-measured values which had been obtained at the same measuring temperature in which pressure components due to vapor pressure of the liquid are equal, taking into account the liquid quantity contained in the particular liquid portions and the measuring cell volume with the relation po=RT.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1988Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Inventor: Werner Grabner

Patent number: 4901560Abstract: A roller clamp type wheel examining apparatus includes a support for supporting thereon a wheel of a vehicle to be examined, a plurality of rollers for clamping the wheel supported on the support from both sides thereof and an angle detector for detecting the angle of orientation of the wheel when clamped by the plurality of rollers. The wheel of a vehicle clamped by the rollers on both sides thereof may be driven to rotate around its own rotating axis to thereby examine dynamic characteristics of the wheel. In this case, the support structure should, for example, include a pair of support rollers for supporting thereon the wheel to be examined in a rotatable manner. The support may include a floating table having a flat top support surface and movable in a horizontal plane translationally as well as rotationally, in which case only the dynamic characteristics of the wheel may be examined since the wheel is not rotatable around its rotating axis.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1988Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignees: Honda Giken Kogyo K.K., Anzen Motor Car Co., Ltd.Inventors: Akira Hirano, Shinichi Watanabe, Yutaka Fukuda, Yukio Higuchi, Fumio Shibano, Hiroshi Sekino, Hiroichi Nabeshima, Yukimasa Nishizawa

Patent number: 4901564Abstract: An array of sensors responsive to atmospheric electrostatic fields is deployed, preferably with the sensors elevated above the ground. Suitable sensors are corona point sensors having a stainless steel needle. The corona current signals from the sensors are digitized and processed to determine the peak in the rate of sharp discontinuities in the electrostatic field. The peak in the rate of sharp discontinuities precedes a thunderstorm microburst by several minutes. The signal processing apparatus also generates equipotential contour maps of electrostatic field for spatially locating a microburst. The latter signal may also serve as a predictor for windshear since anomalous electric fields caused by charge carrying downdrafts may occur without lightning.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1987Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Inventors: Earle R.
