  • Patent number: 4937901
Abstract: An apparatus for turning a patient form a supine to a prone position and vice-versa during the course of a surgical procedure is disclosed. In one embodiment, the turning apparatus comprises a rotatable stretcher supported at opposite ends by a rectangular frame. The turning apparatus is adapted to straddle a standard operating table and is provided with telescoping members for adjusting the length and width of the apparatus to accommodate virtually any operating table. The hydraulic system of the operating table is used to raise the turning apparatus, which is then locked in place, either manually or by a self-locking mechanism, in an elevated position. The operating table is then lowered, and the stretcher portion rotated 180.degree., so as to turn the patient over. As a final step, the operating table is again raised to the level of the now rotated stretcher, the legs of the apparatus unlocked, and the patient lowered so that the surgical procedure can continue.

  • Patent number: 4937906
Abstract: A dockleveler employs a lip counterbalance mechanism to increase the force of the lip counterbalance spring as the deck is raised. A linkage is coupled at one end to the dockboard lip and at the other end to a level assembly. The lever in turn is adjustably coupled to the lip spring. As the dockboard is raised, a chain coupled to the frame and the linkage exerts a force causing initial raising of the lip while pivoting the linkage downward. This in turn causes the lever to rotate such that the force on the lever pushes the linkage further raising the lip.

  • Patent number: 4937913
Abstract: A door closer wherein a housing defines a fluid-containing space and rotatably supports a shaft which is articulately connected with a pivotable door panel. A piston in the housing divides the space into a chamber and a compartment and has a toothed rack which mates with a pinion on the shaft so that the piston moves in the housing in response to rotation of the shaft as a result of pivoting of the door panel and vice versa. One or more springs in the chamber bias the piston in a direction to pivot the door panel toward closed position. A channel in the housing establishes communication between the chamber and the compartment during an initial stage of movement of the door panel from closed position at which time the piston moves in a direction to reduce the volume of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4937927
Abstract: A cast iron sleeve liner for an internal combustion engine cylinder, or other reciprocating piston apparatus, is provided with external screw threads on its outer diameter along substantially its entire length. The screw threads engage complementary internal screw threads that are formed in a cylinder opening. One end of the sleeve abuts against a shoulder in the cylinder as the sleeve is threaded into the cylinder to force the cooperating threads into contact to take up the backlash, or clearance, between the threads. The clearance between the threads may be filled with a sealant. The sleeve can be produced wholly apart from the cylinder by first forming a raw cylindrical casting, then forming the exterior screw threads, and then machining the cylinder bore in the sleeve while the sleeve is held in a fixture which simulates the cylinder opening.

  • Patent number: 4937933
Abstract: In an apparatus for the introduction of a repair sleeve into a tube of a steam generator, difficulties are encountered if the axes of the repair sleeve and the steam generator tube are not aligned. Furthermore, problems are encountered in positioning the repair sleeve exactly in its end position. In order to achieve a precise centering and positioning of the repair sleeve, an aperture is formed by a connecting sleeve which is resiliently supported in the axial direction. The repair sleeve is clamped between a first shoulder of a holding grip and a centering piece which has a variable outside diameter. In such a structure, the greatest diameter of the shoulder surface is less than the inside diameter of the connecting sleeve. The holding grip is associated with a second shoulder having an axial distance from the first shoulder which is further away from the tube sheet than the first shoulder by the height of the connecting sleeve.

The chisel 1, 2 is longer than the inside width 26 of the chimney 14 so that a pushing force 19 and a pulling force 20 causes the sharp end 22 to dig into the deposits 29. By exerting slightly more pushing force 19 than pulling force 20 the chisel 1, 2 is made to move along the walls 23, 24 chiseling deposits 29 off as it goes.

Abstract: A guide shoe of a power chain saw unit is movable along a series of side-by-side roof rafters. A power chain saw of the power chain saw unit is connected to the guide shoe by rigid rods. When operated, the power chain saw cuts notches in the roof rafters in the direction of travel of the guide shoe. Fixed to the guide shoe are upstanding plates formed with arcuate slots. The ends of the rigid rods adjacent the upstanding plates are releasably secured along the arcuate slots of the upstanding plates for locking the power chain saw in various selected angular positions relative to the guide shoe for controlling the depth of the notches and the cutting angle of the chain saw blade of the power chain saw.

Abstract: A magnetic compass is disclosed which is especially adapted for use in automotive vehicles and which is provided with an optical angular position encoder. The housing comprises a cylindrical cup and a hollow cylindrical rim; a compass rotor is disposed in the housing with the magnet in the cup and an encoder disk in the rim. The hollow rim has a base plate defining a vehicle orientation axis and a cover plate. The rotor is provided with a reference position aperture and a plurality of displacement angle apertures disposed in a single circumferential track. The transducer comprises optical transmitters and receivers mounted opposite each other on the plates for detecting the apertures in the encoder disk. Support arms for the compensation coils and the search coil are disposed on the cup opposite the magnet in a predetermined angular location relative to the orientation axis.

Abstract: A masonry line stretching apparatus which has a body (20) of cast aluminum material with an integral upright finger (24) and lower jaw (32). A slideable jaw (40) is positioned on the body and is free to be adjustably moved relative to the lower jaw. A stop (52) retains the slideable jaw and the device is used in pairs with the jaws being adjusted into a gripping position on a building block (38) in the form of a brick (44) or concrete block (48). A masons line (36) is strung between two of the apparatus positioned adjacent to corner building blocks allowing the mason to maintain a straight row or face during the construction process. The device may be used with the body disposed on top of the block or opposite with the body cantilevered therefrom. The jaws grip either the entire block, in the case of a brick, or from the opening (46) to the edge, in the case of a concrete or cinder block (48).

  • Patent number: 4937947
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed to rotate a gear shaft about a reference axis and to position rolling path support elements such that their centers coincide with a reference axis. Once the rolling path elements have been centered and adjusted to compensate for any offset or warp they are fixedly attached to the gear shaft and serve to accurately support the shaft in a grinding or machining device which forms internal centering chamfers. Once the centering chamfers have been formed, they may be used to support the device during its final machining. A computer is included in the apparatus and is operatively connected to rotating and feeler devices. The computer is also operatively connected to a display screen which displays a sequence of events enabling the operator to adjust the positions of the rolling path elements. The display screen may include infrared heat sensitive areas to enable the operator to input data into the computer and control the operation of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4937948
Abstract: A probe head for coordinate-measuring instruments has a torsionally rigid, play-free and friction-free probe-suspension system which defines a three-dimensional coordinate system, wherein a probe pin is deflectable in all three directions in space. In order to be able to use the probe pin completely independent of its orientation, a separate taring device provides taring adjustment for each of the three coordinate axes in space. The taring device automatically sets the zero position of the suspension system in any orientation of the probe head, and for any change in orientation. In this connection, it is particularly advantageous to develop each taring device from two springs which are preloaded to act in opposition upon an element which is gravitationally deflected upon any change in probe-head orientation; to reach the zero position detected by an indicator, i.e., to effect the taring adjustment, provision is made for adjustment of the preload force of at least one of these springs.
