  • Patent number: 4939826
Abstract: This invention provides a method for fabricating ultrasonic transducer arrays and various transducer arrays produced utilizing such methods. The method includes the steps of cutting a block of piezoelectric material to form a plurality of wafers, each wafer being of a predetermined thickness; forming the wafers into a spaced parallel array with a center-to-center spacing between the wafers substantially equal to one-half of the object wavelength (as this term is defined in the specification); and causing the space between the wafers to be filled with a substance having an acoustic impedance which differs from that of the piezoelectric material by an amount such that the reflection coefficient between the piezoelectric material and the substance is greater than 0.9. The predetermined thickness of the wafers may be equal to one-half the piezoelectric wavelength and the substance between the wafers may be formed at least mostly of air.

  • Patent number: 4939856
Abstract: An adjustable steam flow control for an electric steam iron includes a metering rod mounted in threaded engagement with a support bushing and having a lower end that extends into a valve orifice between the water reservoir and the steam generation chamber. A pinion gear is secured to the metering rod and engages a spur gear sector on a rotatably mounted steam adjust knob. Rotation of the steam adjust knob in one direction or the other by the user causes the metering rod to rotate in its bushing and advance into or retract from the orifice to thus control the steam flow rate. The steam control knob is provided with a spur gear sector so that partial rotation of the steam control knob will rotate the metering rod through its full range of motion. Immersed in the liquid are a multiple of vessels that are substantially closed on their sides and top, and substantially open on their bottom. The vessels are weighted so that they have a negative buoyancy when holding a small amount of air but will become positively buoyant when they accumulate more air from the rising air bubbles. The vessels are also weighted so that their center of gravity remains below their center of buoyancy even when in a full positive state. Abstract: A method and an apparatus for orienting and loading a plurality of unoriented rim-fire cartridge into a magazine are provided. An orienter apparatus employs gravity to orient rim-fire cartridges by hanging a plurality of cartridges from a number of parallel rails. The orienter is repositioned to a second or vertical configuration so that gravity can be used to feed the columns of oriented cartridges through a chute. In another embodiment, a collector apparatus is used to pick up a plurality of cartridges and hold the cartridges in a holding portion. The orienter or collector operatively engages with a loader which employs a camming mechanism to move cartridges one at a time into a magazine. The cartridges are placed in a first angular relationship with respect to the magazine opening and are moved through the opening while changing the angular relationship of the cartridge with the magazine opening.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a visual fishing aid comprised of a substantially rectangularly shaped plastic plate having a plurality of openings or holes to retain spring rings (necklace claspers) inserted therein to allow the plate to slide along fishing line which is threaded through the openings in the spring rings, a plurality of anti-sail (anti-sway) openings to allow wind to pass through this plate so that the plate does not whip around and cause the fishing line to become snagged or twisted around the pole and a ballast glued or otherwise attached to the lower longitudinal (long) portion of said plate to make the plate more stable and to assist it in holding its position on the fishing line during use.

  • Patent number: 4939866
Abstract: A window guard assembly made up of two, slidably coupled, generally U-shaped, members each comprising parallel spaced, elongated, linear legs integrally interjoined at one end to a transverse portion which lies in a plane parallel to the plane of the legs. In assembly the transverse portion of each member extends laterally outwardly and around the legs of the other member. As a consequence, the two members may be assembled slidably with adjacent legs of the two members co-planar and the transverse portions thereof disposed on opposite sides of the assembled members. The outer of free ends of the legs are attachable to window frame members for mounting the guard assembly across a window opening. In a first modified version, each guard member includes three elongated legs attached to a transverse portion and in a second modified version, the transverse portion of each of member is welded to the ends of the legs.

Abstract: A power supplying system for supplying power to a self-driving closure device in which a driving source for driving the closure device for opening and closing an opening moves together with the closure device includes a lead wire having one end connected to a power source and the other end connected to the driving source. The side of the lead wire connected to the power source is supported at a midpoint between the positions of the upper and lower limits of movement of the driving source, while the side of the lead wire connected to the driving source is supported in such a manner as to move together with the driving source. The lead wire is thus made to swing in conjunction with the movement of the driving source so as to supply power to the moving driving source. A guide shaft is provided along the direction of movement of the driving source, and a helical portion formed in the lead wire is extended or shrunk along the guide shaft so as to supply power to the moving driving source.

Abstract: A centrifugal processing machine for the merchanical processing, for example, grinding, polishing, cleaning and de-burring of workpieces, with a container serving to accommodate the work-pieces and processing agents. The container comprises a substantially cylindrical casing and a rotating bottom, in the form of a plate or similar dished structure, mounted coaxially with the casing. The peripheral edge of the bottom projects towards the cylindrical casing and forms a narrow gap. For adjusting automatically the width of the gap around the entire periphery of the container, as a function of a given or varying gap-width, the casing is adapted to be raised and lowered in relation to the bottom. This is accomplished by means of a measuring device, which measures the width of the gap, and by means of a device for raising and lowering the casing which is adapted to be controlled by the measuring device in such a manner that the width of the gap is adjusted to a specific value and is held at this value.
