    Abstract: A floor or walkway has a base and an overlay on the base. The overlay includes a plurality of prefabricated tiles each of which has an upper layer designed to contact objects on the floor or walkway and a lower layer designed to bear against the base. The upper layers are composed of a ceramic while the lower layers are composed of a resilient material having anti-skid characteristics. The upper and lower layers of each tile are adhesively secured or vulcanized to one another during manufacture of the tile. The overlay is formed by simply placing the tile on the base or loosely securing the tiles to the base by means of an adhesive. If the overlay is outdoors, the same or gaps between neighboring tiles are kept open to permit water runoff. The lower layers of the tiles are then formed with drainage channels and/or open pores for the discharge of water which has passed through the seams or gaps.

Bracing bars are preferably inserted through the holes to both reinforce the concrete slab and further increase the pullout resistance of the anchor. Preferably the bracing bars are separate, electrically non-conducting bars to electrically isolate the anchor and support members. The anchor permits elements to be attached to a face of a concrete slab by means of a threaded hole which is sealed against concrete entering during pouring.

    Abstract: A machine for wrapping generally cylindrical articles includes a web supply reel, an endless conveyor composed of a multiplicity of spaced-apart rollers for moving the articles along a predetermined path, a device for guiding and feeding the web on to the rollers, a device for feeding articles on to the web at a location at which it has already been guided on to the rollers, and transverse cutters for severing a predetermined portion of the web after an article has been placed thereon. An abutment is mounted along the predetermined path and disposed to tangentially engage the rollers to cause their rotation which, in turn, causes rotation of the articles thereby wrapping a predetermined portion of the web around themselves. The machine also includes an integral heat tunnel and an electronically-controlled drive for accelerating and decelerating the conveyor in timed relation with respect to the movement of the web. A method for wrapping cylindrical articles is also disclosed.

    Abstract: The invention provides a package and associated method for packaging of products which enhances the resistance to tampering with or adulteration of the product, and which also permits a readily visible indication that any such tampering or adulteration has occurred. The invention in one form provides an inner container which is in turn provided with an outer protective layer of epoxide resin. The outer layer is cured and it becomes extremely brittle such that any physical penetration of the outer layer will cause the entire outer layer to shatter. Such shattering will provide a clear indication that penetration of the protective layer has occurred. Also there may be provided an associated dye which will exhibit a color change when the outer protective layer is shattered. A warning message may be provided on said packaging underlying the outer layer.

    Abstract: A new bag cassette having a main bottom panel formed by a diagonal panel defined by a pair of spaced parallel fold lines and a pair of side panels is used to protect and position a bag and for squaring a carton. The bag spout is held in a reinforcing panel connected to the main bottom panel by a spacing panel and the bag is protected by the envelope formed by folding the two side panels perpendicular to the diagonal panel. To square a box having a cross section substantially corresponding with the periphery of the main panel, the cassette is inserted into the box with a diagonal panel extending diagonally between the pair of opposed corners of the box and with the side panels in folded enveloping position substantially perpendicular to the diagonal panel. As the cassette is moved down into the box it tends to force the box into squared position. Folding out of the side panels into a position parallel to the diagonal panel completes the squaring and positions the cassette in the bottom of the box.

    Abstract: An electromagnetic converter directs the exhaust stream of a fossil fuel combustion process, for example the exhaust from an internal combustion engine, through a series of electrostatic fields to convert a substantial portion of the pollutants into non-harmful base elements. In an exemplary embodiment, the exhaust stream is directed through an anti-turbulator chamber, which conditions the flow. The chamber includes an electron transfer grid in the path of the flow. The grid has a negative dc charge of sufficient strength to achieve the first ionization level of the HC, CO, and CO.sub.2 molecules present. The ionized exhaust is thereafter directed to an ion generator chamber, which includes coils carrying a very high positive dc charge, e.g. 20,000-50,000 volts dc, sufficient to achieve ionization potential of the molecules to induce molecular breakdown into the base components of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.

According to a first embodiment, a single burner is provided for all soot filters to be regenerated and the burner does not lie directly in the pipes of the exhaust gas pipe that conveys exhaust gas to the soot filters. Preferably, exhaust gas is supplied to the burner(s) through separate exhaust gas feed pipes but, alternatively, a separate burner can be located directly in each branch of the exhaust pipe upstream of the respective soot filter provided therein.

Power is derived from the working fluid during the piston stroke in each direction. The motor finds particular application for energy recovery in an absorption refrigeration system.

The first hydraulic piston is moved from a first position to a second position when the wire, connected at one end to the piston and its other to a fixed point, changes from a martensitic to an austenitic state upon heating. The second hydraulic piston responds to the movement of the first hydraulic piston by moving from a rest position to an operating position. Upon cooling the wire to change it from the austenitic state back to the martensitic state, the first piston returns to its original position, with a biasing means being provided to return the second piston to its rest position.

When the pistons are at rest during release, the seals are in an open position relative to the pistons sufficient to permit the passage of fluid therepast for compensation. These piston portions may be at least parts of piston beveled edge surfaces, or such edge surfaces in conjunction with notches or grooves which are of smaller diameter than the high pressure lip seals. A circulating mechanism operates to drive separate air steams through the passage and across the front opening in an innermost stream and an outermost stream.
