  • Patent number: 4947567
Abstract: A label tape having self-adhesive labels sticking on a carrier strip, with said labels being separated from each other by cuts running mainly transverse to the longitudinal axis of the label tape and being subdivided each into sections by at least two cutting lines in form of periodic curves running in longitudinal direction to the label tape. The height of the labels is greater than and aliquant to the periodic length of the cutting lines, the form of the cutting lines is chosen such that parts of the cutting lines confine an angle of not more than 90.degree. and the curves of the cutting lines of the label tape are staggered in a longitudinal direction. The height of the label measured in longitudinal direction of the label tape differs from the periodic length of the cutting lines and of a morefold thereof, and the periodic length of the cutting lines is lower than the height of a label. Thus, security against forgery by the invention is improved.

  • Patent number: 4947577
Abstract: A foldable lure container has a series of horizontally aligned removable tubes positioned in at least two tiers. These tiers can be of any suitable length and the tubes can be any suitable diameter. This lure container when in use is unfolded and opened so that one series or alignment of tubes are positioned alternatively above the other series of tubes. When the device is to be carried from one location to another, the lower level or series of tubes is folded upward so as to be in horizontal alignment with the upper level or series. Each tube has a flip-open top or cap that permits entrance or exit of the lure housed therein. The tube is removed from the tube holder, inverted, the cap opened and the lure removed. In the preferred embodiment, the bottom of the tube has a spring-loaded hinge which when opened will allow the lure to freely drop out. It also could be a non-springloaded cap that would just snap in place either externally or internally.

  • Patent number: 4947579
Abstract: An automatic transplanter utilizes relatively simple mechanical structure to so securely engage the root-bound plug of a seedling that the plug and seedling may be rapidly (a) lifted out of its small germination compartment, (b) horizontally transported to correct vertical register with its newly assigned soil-filled and dibbled larger compartment, and (c) accurately positioned in and discharged into the dibbled cavity. An illustrative relatively short two-second cycle is described wherein plural seedlings are thus concurrently transplanted, for each such cycle, from individual small compartments on a first periodically advanced conveyor of a two-dimensional array of germinated seedlings to correct individual larger compartments on a second conveyor that is also periodically advanced, but at a recurrence rate and incremental advance which differ from that of the first conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4947580
Abstract: Hand-held chemical applicators are provided for applying chemicals such as herbicide to selected plants while surrounding plants are shielded from accidental contact. The chemical is forcefully applied by gripping or pressing a selected portion of the plant against an applicator pad containing the chemical. The amount of applied chemical is controlled by variation of the pressure or area of contact between the plant and the pad. Preferably a porous applicator pad is mounted between the distal portions of a pair of elongated tongs so as to define a shielded application zone. A supply of liquid is stored in a small bottle attached to the tongs. One of the tongs is hollow and contains the applicator pad and a channel for the liquid to flow from the bottle to the pad. The second tong is in the form of a resilient strip which the operator can press toward the hollow tong when maneuvering among plants and when grasping a portion of an undesired plant.

  • Patent number: 4947582
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus and a method for the planting out of plants wherein the plants to be planted out are fitted into pieces of substrate. Said pieces of substrate are located in compartments formed between blocks fitted onto strips. Usually these strips are located adjacent and each second strip is shifted lengthwise over the length of a block, being equal to the length of a compartment so that a chess-board-pattern develops in plan view. For the planting out, the strips are separated and subsequently supplied to a pushing element which pushes the pieces of substrate including the plants in a transverse direction out of the strip and into bigger containers. To use only a single directional movement the strips are inclined relative to the bigger containers. To compensate for this inclination the pieces of substrate are slightly rotated during the movement.

Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus for forming a shrink-wrapped package from polyolefin film which overcomes the problems of forming the bottom lap seal of the tubular package formed from the film and initial low strength of the heat seal at the forward end of the package, by positioning the static sealer for the bottom lap seal upstream from the heat sealer for the forward end of the package and by using a ram to move packages into the tubular package but to stop them short of the heat seal at the forward end of the package.

  • Patent number: 4947607
Abstract: This invention comprises a suspended ceiling grid system having an adjustable compression strut installed between the grid members of the system and the building or construction superstructure which lies in a plane above the suspended ceiling. The adjustable compression strut stabilizes the ceiling system and prevents upward movement of the system such as might occur during a seismic shock or earthquake tremor. The compression strut comprises two co-axial, telescoping cylindrical strut members having a spring clip attached to the inner end of the inner strut member that allows the strut to be extended but not retracted. The compression strut is installed by simply holding it in position between the suspended ceiling grid and the superstructure and then extending the strut members until they are locked in place by the action of the spring clip.

  • Patent number: 4947608
Abstract: A watertight fastener for mounting a peripherally grooved prefabricated bathtub surround panel on a wall. The fastener includes a rigid support and a resilient seal. The support has a mounting portion adapted to be secured to the wall, and a surround-receiving portion adapted to enter the peripheral groove of the surround panel and defining adjacent the free end thereof an aperture extending at least partially therethrough. The seal has an elongate body portion and a sealing portion. The body portion is adopted to enter the peripheral groove of the surround panel with the surround-receiving portion, has a serrated front surface, and defines a transversely-extending plug resiliently retained by the aperture. The sealing portion is adapted to extend intermediate the surround and an adjacent surface to form a watertight seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4947610
Abstract: A method and apparatus for building a brick wall having tensile strength comprising brick with two spaced apart recesses opening to the top and the bottom surfaces of each brick with one recess centered in the left half of each brick and the other centered in the right half of each brick. The bricks in the row above are offset from the bricks in the row below so the recesses in the left of the brick of the row above, line up with the recesses in the right half of the brick of the row below. The pattern continues with each succeeding row so the finished wall has rows of staggered bricks, with recesses lining up from the top of the wall to the bottom. Coupling fasteners are inserted in the recesses of each brick as each row of bricks is laid, and spacers are placed between each row of bricks to hold the brick apart for filling the spaces in with mortar after the entire wall has been assembled.

  • Patent number: 4947612
Abstract: A cross-brace for connection to a pair of parallel conventional joists comprises elongate brace members assembled to form a X-shaped array, with a pair of vertical reinforcement members extending between outer ends of the brace members. The brace members and reinforcement members are connected to one another and, when the cross-brace is assembled with the joists, the reinforcement members abut mutually opposed sides of the joists. When I-beams are employed, the outer ends of the brace members and the opposite ends of the reinforcement members cooperate to form right-angled notches for snugly receiving longitudinal beam members, which are interconnected in pairs by web members against which the reinforcement members abut. The web members are connected by dovetail joints to the beam members instead of simply being inserted in a conventional manner into slots in the beam members.

  • Patent number: 4947614
Abstract: A termination bar for covering an edge of a sheet of roofing material applied to an outer surface of a building includes a planar body, a cover and a hinge for pivotally connecting the cover to the planar body, all formed as an integral unit. Opposite longitudinally extending edges of the planar body are thicker than a central portion of the body and apertures for receiving fasteners are formed in the central portion. After the termination bar has been attached to the building over the edge of the roofing material by suitable fasteners, the cover is pivoted into a superposed position on the planar body. The cover is maintained in position by a first latching means formed on the planar body and a cooperating second latching means formed on the cover.
