Abstract: An excavating bucket wheel has a plurality of radially outwardly open bucket chambers disposed in a circular array. During rotation of the bucket wheel each chamber cyclically assumes a material receiving position and a material dumping position. Each bucket chamber is defined by a cutting plate supported at the wheel periphery and having a trailing edge as viewed in the direction of wheel rotation, two axially spaced, parallel side walls and a rear wall extending axially between the side walls. An outer edge of the rear wall is situated adjacent the cutting plate. Each bucket chamber is further defined by a bottom wall extending axially between the side walls and being supported for pivotal motion about an axis oriented parallel to the rotary axis of the bucket wheel and situated adjacent the outer wheel periphery. The bottom wall has a first pivotal position for receiving material and a second pivotal position for dumping material.

Abstract: A steam iron press employs first and second members and a lever mechanism connected to the second member and when manually actuated by an operator causing the second member to be moved to any position between a position of maximum separation and a position of engagement with respect to the first member. The second member receives water and converts the water into steam which is expelled through openings therein. A pump connected between the second member and a water reservoir feeds water to the second member. A cam mechanism is connected between the lever mechanism and the pump to only actuate the pump during a predetermined interval t between the instant of time T1 at which the lever mechanism has initiated movement of the second member toward the first member and the instant of time T2 at which an article to be pressed is squeezed between the two surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4955158
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved capillary mat for water plants. The mat includes a lower piece of the air bubble type material. This provides a support base to be laid in a tray leaving space for a water reservoir between the air cells. In accordance with the present invention, instead of using a fiber type material for the top piece on which the plant is rested, a piece of solid sheet plastic material is used. The sheet of plastic material has a number of holes therein. The plastic sheet material is only sealed to the bubble packed material at certain places so that water can travel by an adhesion type effect in the free space between the plastic sheet layer and the air bubble material and exit through the holes in the sheet to the plant pot. The center structure is of waterproof material. The plastic sheet layer will not become discolored and can be wiped clean if any unwanted material deposits on top of it.

  • Patent number: 4955159
Abstract: A retaining catch for a tip-out sash provides an automatically deployed retainer mechanism for a sash slidably captive in a window frame or jamb. The sash can be raised and lowered by sliding it along the jamb. A releasable tenon, for example at the top edge of the sash, allows the user to rotate the sash out of the plane of the jamb, facilitating cleaning of the outside. Releasing the sash from the jamb by releasing the tenon activates a mechanism with a distal hook by which the edge of the sash remains captive and displacement of the edge of the sash from the jamb is limited to the unfolded length of the mechanism. The mechanism can be released fully from the jamb by manual action of the user, whereupon the hook returns under spring bias to reside along the edge of the sash.

  • Patent number: 4955163
Abstract: A method is disclosed in which only one working point or machining point on a machining tool, which in general can comprise a grinding wheel or disc, is in machining contact with a workpiece such as a gear blank during a machining operation. The position of this single working or machining point can be selectively chosen within a machining region of the grinding wheel or disk and can be prescribed to lie in a zone of fixed or variable radius of the grinding wheel or disk. This is achieved through at least one feed motion, in general a feed motion of the grinding wheel or disc, effected in addition to feed motions known per se in machining processes performed essentially according to the indexing generating method. This means that the machining contact point between the grinding wheel or disk and the gear blank does not wander on the grinding wheel or disk in correspondence with the generating feed motions but can be confined to a predeterminate region.

  • Patent number: 4955164
Abstract: An abrasivejet drilling system is disclosed for drilling small diameter holes in fragile materials of the type which tend to crack when impacted by such jets. The system employs a drilling jet formed from a high pressure liquid whose pressurization varies with time during the drilling process. To avoid damage to fragile materials, angular holes are drilled by initially penetrating the surface of the fragile workpiece perpendicular to the workpiece's surface and thereafter pivoting the jet to the correct angle. The jet dwell in the drilled hole for a predetermined time to modify the hole geometry is monitored by detecting the change in sound level when the jet drills completely through the workpiece.
