  • Patent number: 5007303
Abstract: In a variable inertial mass flywheel having a main flywheel member coupled to an engine crankshaft and a subflywheel member rotatably arranged relative to the main flywheel member, an electrorheological fluid whose viscosity changes according to intensity of electric field at high response speed is enclosed between electrodes formed on the main flywheel member and the subflywheel member. At engine idling, a higher voltage is applied to the electrodes to increase the viscosity of the fluid, that is, to increase inertial mass of the flywheel so that engine torque ripple can effectively be absorbed. At engine acceleration, a lower (or zero) voltages is applied to the electrodes to decrease the viscosity of the fluid, that is to decrease inertial mass of the flywheel so that high engine torque response characteristics can stably be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5007308
Abstract: A line pressure control during a shifting operation of an automatic transmission is disclosed. Quality of each shifting operation is represented by a predetermined variable, viz, an inertia phase time during which a gear ratio undergoes a variation. When a deviation between circumstances detected upon occurrence of a shifting operation and predetermined circumstances under which a target value is set fails to fall in a predetermined range, a deviation indicative signal is generated. Upon absence of this deviation indicative signal after completion of the shifting operation, the inertia phase time measured during the shifting operation is compared with the target value and the line pressure is adjusted in response to this comparison result when the shifting operation of the same kind is to occur under substantially the same circumstances detected. In other words, the learning to adjust the line pressure is prohibited when the deviation indicative signal is present.

  • Patent number: 5007329
Abstract: Working pistons, in particular those of brake boosters, have to tolerate a considerable number of changes in stress and great forces acting on the piston. Simultaneously, it is an object to construct the pistons as light-weight as possible. Due to the considerable forces in the axial direction, it is imperative for the piston to be well secured on the guiding axis. On the other hand, the central guide's projection securing the piston in the axial direction can cause local stresses on the piston and, thus, fatigue in the material which implies a premature failure of the piston. It is an object of this invention to improve the central circumference of the piston no longer is rigidly clamped into the central guide, but rather in that the inner end and the support are designed so as to enable a swivelling motion of the piston plate without local bending stress, thereby the life of the piston being considerably prolonged.

The liquid also removes dirt and debris and, while containing a rather small amount of fungicide, such amount is present in a concentration sufficient to apply a coating to the fruit at the end of the scrubbing step given proper pH control. The pH of the solution is controlled. During the scrubbing step, the fruit is continuously rotated to provide even fungicidal deposit.

  • Patent number: 5007337
Abstract: A horizontal waste material baling machine has a charging passage which leads to a compressing chamber of generally parallelopiped configuration and in which a charging plunger is reciprocably moveable for pushing waste material into the compressing chamber and compressing it into a bale. A discharge passage leads from the compressing chamber at right angles to the charging passage, and an ejection plunger is advanceable through the chamber and the discharge passage to eject the baled waste material. To ease the ejection of an oversize bale, the discharge passage wall adjacent the exit end of the charging passage is a vertically oriented planar surface of a structure that is moveable by a linear motor, such as a hydraulic cylinder, from a normal operative position at which the vertical planar surface and the opposite sidewall of the discharge passage determine the exit width to a position at which the planar surface is displaced by an amount it is desired to increase the exit width of the discharge passage.

Abstract: The printing machine has two multi-color printing units (I, II) of essentially identical construction, each composed of a first blanket cylinder (4, 14), of a second blanket cylinder (7, 17), of a plate cylinder (5, 15) and of an image transfer cylinder (6, 16). In the offset-printing position, the second blanket cylinder (7, 17) inked by offset plate cylinders (8) rests against the first blanket cylinder (4, 14), while in the collect-printing position it is moved away from this and inked by color selector cylinders. In the collect-printing position, the plate cylinder (5, 15) carries a collect-printing plate, of which the image inked by the first cylinder (7, 17) is transferred to the first blanket cylinder (4, 14) via the image transfer cylinder (6, 16). In the offset-printing position, the plate cylinder is inoperative.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a printer with a sheet feeding apparatus having a printer body incorporating a printing mechanism for printing onto continuous forms. A cutter is provided close to a continuous forms discharging port on the printer case. Following the cutter downstream, there is provided a sheet feeding belt that rotates at a rate higher than the feed rate of the continuous forms. Along the belt, there are provided a sheet traversing section, a sheet direction changing section, a sheet pushing section and a sheet stacker, in that order from upstream to downstream. The sheet traversing section seizes and feeds horizontally each sheet cut by the cutter. The sheet direction changing section perpendicularly changes the feed direction of each cut sheet. The sheet pushing section pushes each sheet onto the sheet stacker where an orderly stack of sheets is formed.

Abstract: A keyless printing press includes a delivery nozzle disposed in opposition to an ink source roller and provided with a plurality of delivery ports aligned in parallel along the axial direction of the ink source roller. Printing ink circulating through an ink circulation system is delivered and fed through the respective delivery ports of the delivery nozzle to the ink source roller. The arrangement is improved to obviate the shortcoming that isolated water may repeatedly circulate through the ink circulation system and accumulate, resulting in lowering of printing depth. At least one ink outflow port, for ensuring that printing ink having a high moisture content proportion will flow out of the delivery nozzle, is provided in the delivery nozzle at a position at a level higher than any of the delivery ports.

Abstract: An air cushion drum for a sheet-fed printing press is formed with an internal body and an outer casing defining a cavity inside the drum through which air streams are supplied to issue from orifices in the drum casing and force the sheets away therefrom. To reduce airflow noise a sound-absorbent layer which has radial ducts is disposed in the cavity and forms therein an air-permeable partition which is equidistant from the drum casing. In the preferred embodiment, the sound-absorbent layer is supported by a lattice formed with droplet shaped members which further reduce air flow resistance and the sound-absorbent layer which may be formed of felt or foam is supported on the lattice by an outer stabilizing layer of plastic material.

Abstract: A unitary dual firing assembly includes a high explosive detonation cord with ends, each actuable by a different firing mechanism. The ends of the high explosive detonation cord are adjacent respective bulkhead membranes which, if broken, are effective to transfer a shockwave to detonate the high explosive cord. An intermediate section of the high explosive cord is effective to detonate perforating gun apparatus. A hydraulic firing head is located adjacent the membrane at one end of the high explosive detonating cord, while a mild explosive detonating cord is located adjacent the membrane at the other end of the high explosive detonating cord. An upper end of the mild explosive detonating cord terminates in a stem cap assembly which is responsive to an impact for detonating the high explosive cord, via a lower end of the mild explosive detonating cord. Mechanical or fluid inputs can thus be applied to reliably detonate one or the other of the firing mechanisms to trigger the perforating gun.
